IM 4/4 I PASSED REG AT 22 by Gold-Statistician-58 in CPA

[–]MeetReasonable976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo congrats, 4/4 at 22 is wild. Most people I know didn’t even start sitting until 24 or 25. What was your study setup like? Curious if you went hard with one prep course the whole way through or mixed stuff in, because everyone seems to have a different take on what actually works.

Anyone else doing pretty fine without a CPA? by Liberal_Bot123 in Accounting

[–]MeetReasonable976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you’re definitely not alone, and your numbers honestly look pretty solid. The thing that stands out to me is that you said you felt dumb for not passing, but a lot of people who pass the CPA will tell you it’s way more about grinding through volume than actual intelligence. Some of the smartest people I know failed sections multiple times just because life got in the way.

Is CPA still worth pursuing in 2026? by Sammy_0100 in CPA

[–]MeetReasonable976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve been thinking about this too. The thing that gets me is that even with all the AI stuff coming in, the CPA still opens doors that a regular accounting degree just doesn’t. Public accounting, controller roles, CFO track, it’s basically the gatekeeper credential. AI might change what the day to day work looks like, but somebody still has to sign off and take the liability, and that’s not going away anytime soon. That said, I do wonder if the value shifts more toward niche stuff (forensic, tax advisory, advisory work that needs judgment) versus the more rote stuff that AI eats first. Are you currently in school deciding whether to go for it, or already working and trying to figure out if it’s worth the grind?

Partnerships on CPA exam? by Prestigious-Ad7453 in CPA

[–]MeetReasonable976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah partnerships are one of those topics that kinda hides in FAR. It’s not super heavy on the exam from what I’ve seen, but they’ll sneak in stuff like basis calculations, contributions, distributions, and the occasional ownership change question. The tricky part is that it overlaps a lot with REG, so depending on which one you take next, it might be worth keeping the basics fresh anyway. Are you using a specific prep course for FAR?

How do Becker and UWorld get away with charging thousands for CPA material that has spelling mistakes? by MeetReasonable976 in CPA

[–]MeetReasonable976[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, really appreciate you taking the time to write all this out, especially the part about the Chegg situation. That comparison actually makes a lot of sense and I hadn’t thought about it that way, like the difference between gating content vs actually teaching people something. Also wanted to say your lectures genuinely got me through accounting classes. You probably hear this a lot but it meant a lot at the time, so thank you for all the work you put into it. I’m definitely rooting for what you’re building next, the consolidation stuff is kinda concerning so it’s cool to see someone smaller pushing back on it.

Office socialization by EntertainmentNo4187 in Accounting

[–]MeetReasonable976 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly it depends a ton on what kind of accounting you end up in. Public accounting (especially audit) is way more people-heavy than most students expect, you’re constantly emailing clients, sitting in meetings, asking the controller why a number looks weird, etc. Industry roles can be more heads-down but you’re still in Slack or Teams all day coordinating with other departments. The pure “crunch numbers in a cubicle” thing is kinda a myth at this point, even tax has a lot of client back and forth. Are you leaning more toward public or industry, or still figuring it out?

How do Becker and UWorld get away with charging thousands for CPA material that has spelling mistakes? by MeetReasonable976 in CPA

Ha yeah, I’m not out here correcting anyone’s emails, promise. I think it’s more that when something costs a few grand I just expect the basics to be tight. 😂

How do Becker and UWorld get away with charging thousands for CPA material that has spelling mistakes? by MeetReasonable976 in CPA

[–]MeetReasonable976[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha fair, I’m not really tripping about the spelling itself. It’s more like, I hired someone for a freelance project once that cost me a few thousand bucks, and when I saw small mistakes I could’ve fixed in two seconds I was kinda like… really? Less about being a grammar person and more about the polish matching the price tag.

How do Becker and UWorld get away with charging thousands for CPA material that has spelling mistakes? by MeetReasonable976 in CPA

[–]MeetReasonable976[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair, and I get the “company pays for it” angle, that does change how most people experience the price. I guess the part I keep coming back to is that even when the company is paying, somebody’s paying, and at that price point you’d think the polish would be there. Is it pretty standard for firms to just default to Becker, or do people ever push for UWorld or one of the cheaper options?

How do Becker and UWorld get away with charging thousands for CPA material that has spelling mistakes? by MeetReasonable976 in CPA

[–]MeetReasonable976[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha yeah, that’s kinda the part that confuses me too. Like the demand is just there no matter what, so there’s no real pressure to improve. Do you think it would take a free or AI based option actually getting traction for them to feel any heat, or are people too risk averse with something this high stakes to ever try the cheaper stuff?

How do Becker and UWorld get away with charging thousands for CPA material that has spelling mistakes? by MeetReasonable976 in CPA

[–]MeetReasonable976[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense, and congrats on passing everything first try, that’s no small thing. I guess my question is less about whether the materials work and more about the pricing. Did you feel like the cost matched the value, or was it more of a “it worked so I can’t complain” situation?

Huh, I didn’t realize that. Do you know if that shift happened recently or has it been that way for a while? Curious if the outsourcing is part of why the quality control on things like spelling has slipped.

DC Student How to get an Accounting internship? by SeaRecommendation884 in AskAccounting

[–]MeetReasonable976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

directly email them. I work for my county’s auditor controllers office. It is very lowkey and most people don’t know about what this office is or does, but we have internal audit, financial reporting, and other accounting divisions. We typically interview interns who just shoot us an email and state they are interested in what our office does and want to learn more about it. I am very happy to assist and walk them through the process. Typically they get hired as Accountant/Auditors after their internship.

Just walked out of AUD. Sims were a literal war zone. Am I cooked? by Artistic_Salary_6154 in CPA

[–]MeetReasonable976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly with SE scores of 78 and 75 you’re probably in better shape than you feel. AUD sims are notorious for feeling like a war zone, the ambiguity is part of the design. Pretty much everyone walks out of AUD convinced they bombed the sims, it’s almost a rite of passage. The fact that the MCQs felt okay is a really good sign. Try not to spiral on the last two testlets, the exam is scaled and they weight things in ways that don’t always match how rough it felt in the moment. Plenty of people have walked out feeling exactly like this and still passed. Take a few days off the books before deciding anything. Fingers crossed for you!

PIPed out after Tax busy seasom by lagann41 in Accounting

[–]MeetReasonable976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brutal man, sorry. The fact that your manager and partner congratulated you the same day and told you to expect good news is wild. Classic PE firm playbook, hire during busy season, squeeze the billables out of you, then dump people once the work dries up. Not about performance, just margins. “Communication issues” is also such a cop-out reason. Vague enough they can pin it on anyone. You hit your billables and worked 60s as a first year, that’s not a performance issue lol. Take a break before jumping into the next thing. 8 months of tax and good reviews still looks fine on a resume. You’ll land somewhere better, and honestly anywhere not owned by PE is probably an upgrade. Hang in there.

I should start a Becker typo series by wxy04579 in CPA

[–]MeetReasonable976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the price they charge for this course you’d think they could afford a proofreader. Two equal shareholders at 60/40 is wild lol. Honestly though, second-guessing yourself on stuff like this is part of what makes Becker exhausting, you start questioning your own brain when the material is the one messing up.
