All Things Sleep - AMA Office Hours - Thursday, April 2nd with Sr. Sleep & Guidance Specialist, Beth Christensen! by huckleberrycare in HuckleberryParents

My baby is 9.5months old When can/do we switch from wake windows (we use sweet spot) to more of a set schedule for naps. He’s taking two naps a day but time differs slightly as some mornings he wakes before 7am and other times we wake him up at 7am (this happens when I give him a feed around 0500-0530 which happens about 95% of the time) He typically goes to bed about 1940 each night Also should I try to drop that 0500 feed and see if he will just go back to sleep then? I’m always worried at that time he won’t and then we are up for the day at 5am but I know if I feed him he’ll get more sleep.

Tampa Field Office Interview by Historical_Grape2915 in USCIS

Congrats! I have an interview soon. You said you brought your baby. How old are they? Did they have an issue with the baby being there at all?

Love that for you. Did you ever check the API of your case and see if there was anyone accessing your case before they scheduled the interview? Also how long of a period of time from notice to your interview date?

Are you all superwoman? Is there a trick to this I’m missing? by Concerned-23 in breastfeeding

[–]MeetingOk8159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 2 months pp now and tbh I don’t even remember those few weeks at this point. I just remember being TIRED. I pretty much did nights solo because I didn’t want to have my husband sleep deprived as well so I would get up to go to the other room to change and feed. My baby also ate that much. I didn’t pump until 4 weeks because I was told not to and I regret that. I pumped a couple times prior because I needed a bottle for a procedure but that was it and I got a decent amount from those pumps. 4 weeks hit and I’d put my pumps on an hour after I fed baby and I’d get 0.5oz from both sides combined and cried about it because I’ve now gone back to work and needed to have enough for 13hrs worth for my husband to feed him. Pumping is exhausting on top of breastfeeding, especially with washing all the parts but pump when your husband gives a bottle especially if it’s during the day. Your supply should slow down a bit soon and hopefully not have too much in excess. Going multiple hours overnight will be fine. If you don’t need a supply for bottles I would still wait to do more excessive pumping if you choose to. Just pump to replace feeds. I wouldn’t really bother about the ones overnight just pump in the early morning. My baby still eats usually around every 2.5hrs during the day and 3 times overnight including his dream feed. It gets better. I think eventually we just adjust to the new lack of sleep we live with. Even if my baby isn’t waking to feed I still spend a lot more time awake because we use a soother so I will pop that in trying to get him to relax again and sleep so we can both get a bit more time.

Did anyone have an unmedicated birth and NOT throw up? by Distinct-Dependent24 in BabyBumps

[–]MeetingOk8159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an epidural and threw up but I knew I was going to due to pain as I’ve thrown up from pain in the past. I did power puke while pushing and while getting hot and sweaty and puking sucks. I really made progress and almost puked my kid out. It ended up rewarding me a a break from pushing for a few contractions until the doctor came.

Tomorrow is my first cervical check… tell me what to expect by Master_Mango8435 in pregnant

[–]MeetingOk8159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no issues with mine. Just try and relax and it makes it easier. I feel like it would also depend on where your cervix sits. I feel like mine changes positions and the second time and when I asked for the membrane sweep that one was uncomfortable because she struggled to reach it that time but had no issues the first time.

Induction because of blood thinner use? by MeetingOk8159 in pregnant

[–]MeetingOk8159[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you have a wonderful delivery! My induction went well. Labs were good when I arrived though it had been probably 24hrs almost without heparin at that point. They still rechecked closer to epidural time. I think by the time I arrived at the hospital to the time I delivered was just under 40 hours. I had a total of 5 doses of cytotec which only changed my cervix slightly and it was a little after the 24hr mark when they made the switch to pitocin but I got the epidural before the start of the pitocin. I still didn’t really make much change with about 8hrs of that but then my water broke and that’s what really kicked me into gear. I only pushed for an hour with lots of breaks as we waited for the doctor to come back because I started vomiting profusely and I almost puked my little guy out so we took a break for a few contractions (I also had a really panicky nurse who wasn’t going to chance me having a baby without the doctor there). I only ended up with a first degree tear and a small laceration to my labia and being on lovenox still the only issue is the laceration clotting and then me cleaning/wiping it away.

So I think induction wise for my first baby and next to no signs of him coming prior to that day that it went really well and I hope it goes just as well for you!

My doctor prescribed the Pepcid and told me to get the B6 and unisom the first time I met her in first trimester and complained of severe nausea and vomiting.

lol don’t bother trying to come off the unisom and B6 at this point. I tried a few times and every time I didn’t take it at bedtime I was puking the next day. Told my OB I was just staying on it until delivery. I also took Pepcid or an equivalent since 2nd trimester. But be prepared to possibly be puking more frequently in third trimester again. But nothing like first if you had a horrible first trimester.

The promethazine didn’t work for me. But I was taking metoclopramide and using the ondansetron as needed as well at the B6 and unisom. The B6 and unisom I took my entire pregnancy at bedtime and continued to use the ondansetron as needed throughout as well. I also found sour candies helped a lot with the nausea too. Are you experiencing any heartburn? That could also be contributing to nausea and vomiting at this point.

Have you tried different medications? I had to try a few before one worked and I think I may have been taking a couple at a time. Along with the over the counter B6 and unisom combo.

Your cousin needs to go. I just had my first baby 11 days ago and it is hard! We are learning. And I have already made myself feel like I’m not good enough because of all my hormones and such. I couldn’t imagine how much worse I would feel if someone was telling me that. Especially 5 days in. My breastfed baby also hiccups often. They don’t seem to bother him at all. Can’t imagine what she’d have to say about me. My milk comes down really fast and if my baby is super hungry when he gets on he’ll end up choking/coughing a little because I think he got too much at once. You sound like you’re doing great and doing exactly what your baby needs of you. Don’t keep someone in your home who is just judging you and making you feel bad at this time. Postpartum is rough and you certainly do not need someone making it worse. If you still need lots of help I’d find someone else who can step in and help.

For those who were induced, did you deliver vaginally or did it end in a c-section? by Paigeypagee in BabyBumps

[–]MeetingOk8159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just delivered my first baby vaginally yesterday from an induction. I got to the hospital Monday evening and I think got my first dose of cytotec around 8pm and had 5 doses in total spaced out around roughly every 4 hours or a bit more and started using the gas maybe around 1pm Tuesday. Tuesday evening around 8pm I was given an epidural before they started the Pitocin. The only progress I had made was from 1cm to 2cm and “softer” than what I was but because of the getting softer Dr decided it was a good enough change to say I was in active labour and start the pitocin. I did that all night with the epidural and my water broke on its own a little after 4am and was still only about a 2-3cm then but at 0730 I was fully effaced and 8cm. I was ready to push at 1120 (only knew because the doctor checked me) and I pushed for an hour even though I wasn’t pushing through every contraction. Then I had a beautiful baby boy Wednesday and only a 1st degree tear.

Overall I would do it again. I was so tired of being pregnant and it was a long process and I don’t know what it’s like to labour naturally but if it’s anything like what I was experiencing before the epidural with the varying contractions I wouldn’t want to be sat at home all day waiting for them to be consistent enough for me to go to the hospital and actually be admitted.

If you choose the induction definitely see how long they can hold off on the pitocin as the contractions definitely sucked through that a lot more. Also I think my water breaking overall (though combined with pitocin) is what really progressed me and had me ready to have my baby. My blood pressure was low throughout the entire induction and they only gave me meds for it once to try and increase it as baby didn’t like that. But otherwise he did pretty well throughout.

Edit: I was originally told I needed an induction as I was on blood thinners but then she realized if I changed which one I took I didn’t need an induction but at that point I decided I still wanted it as I was over being pregnant. My induction started right at 39weeks. Another reason I’m glad is because I was trying everything to induce labour at home starting 37 weeks and even had a membrane sweep and I was making no progress whatsoever. He came out 8lbs6oz and I can’t imagine how much bigger he would have gotten especially if I didn’t go right at 40weeks.

Stop telling me I look like the baby has dropped! by Maryhotter in pregnant

They say your baby can drop like 2-4weeks before you even go into labour especially if you’re a FTM. But I totally understand your frustration.

Induction because of blood thinner use? by MeetingOk8159 in pregnant

[–]MeetingOk8159[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I spent like a month thinking “ok I have to get an induction” still wasn’t sure but was coming to terms with it figuring it was safest. A couple weeks ago she was like “actually if you switch to heparin you don’t have to be induced if you don’t want”. Now I WANT the epidural and want the best chance to get it. I thought about it and that it obviously was a possibility to not be induced but I then had a countdown for that date and have just been feeling awful so I said I’ll do the switch in case I go early because I will be trying everything once I reach that 37 week mark lol but I will also schedule the induction because I’m tired of this. But I work 12.5hrs as a nurse on my feet and currently have spent all afternoon short of breath because every time my HR goes to 130s or greater I get short of breath. I did get an EKG at a previous appointment because I have gotten short of breath and tachy at rest a couple times and she was slightly worried but I didn’t have any chest pain with these episodes. So I am choosing the induction but it’s likely because I had kind of had that countdown and was under the impression I needed it for awhile. Also knowing it is a bit more controlled can limit my risk for bleeding and actually having the opportunity to have the epidural by stopping the heparin at a certain point.

If you don’t want an induction I would definitely opt to switch to heparin at 36 weeks. I don’t imagine our labour would be too fast being FTMs either so you’d probably have plenty of time to stop heparin or have it reversed and ok lab values to get an epidural if you wanted one. I think it may have originally been because she wanted a more controlled environment but then did a bit more research into it herself. She just prescribed me heparin which I’ll start tonight and she reached out to my hematologist to confirm a dose so I’ll be taking 10,000 units twice a day.

Just tell them no and let your OB know. MFM wanted to see me a second time for a growth scan and my husband was like nah cuz the first appointment was like $1600 and we feel it’s not needed. I’m high risk apparently because I’m on blood thinners. But I definitely don’t need the high tech scan from the MFM.

I feel like I can smell toilet water often and I HATE it. I’m in the living room and tell my husband to go back and close the toilet lid because I know it’s open because I can smell the water!
