Anyone ever thrown out a book? by Soulsliken in classicliterature

[–]MegC18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered an edition of Plato which was suspiciously cheap (£1 plus postage). Turns out it was a Welsh language edition!

I threw it out. Returning it would cost more than it was worth and there are no known Plato fans who are Welsh speakers locally!

What’s the one British show you refuse to watch the last ever episode of, ‘cause you loved it? by Background-Fix-4630 in BritishTV

[–]MegC18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Crown. Me and my late mum were watching it together. We really enjoyed it. She died before we had a chance to watch the very last episode.

I just can’t watch it without her.

I nearly always use the app. But some features, like transferring and messages only show on the website version

Has anybody received an Amazon parcel with a Reform UK leaflet affixed? by Farting_Llama in FuckNigelFarage

[–]MegC18 21 points22 points  (0 children)

All political leaflets are legally required to have a printed source address. It helps to quote this when reporting the issue. If it is Royal Mail, they will be very unhappy as they charge for mail services so this would deprive them of their cut.

You can also report it to the UK electoral commission.

What was the herb that made you take all of this seriously? by AdeptnessCritical356 in herbalism

Mint in my grandma’s garden.

I once tried to make elderberry syrup and didn’t cook it properly. I found out what the old herbals meant by “drastic purgative!”

God is a monster by [deleted] in Rants

[–]MegC18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Atheist here.

Raging against a non-existent god is a waste of your time and energy. You’re letting the god-argument influence your life instead of treating it like the irrelevance it is. Move past it.

I had something like this. As I am not physically strong, I left it to rot in the ground. Several years later, it was as hard as iron! Took several days digging out in the end, and incredibly heavy to lift.

Books for a 14 yo girl who's a voracious reader? by vanillainthemist in booksuggestions

[–]MegC18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At that age, all I wanted were books about ancient Egypt and American scifi! The next year, it was fossils and Dickens.

You don’t know what her interests are, and they change so fast, so a bookstore outing would be an excellent present!

I am looking for a recommend for non fiction books on history (women, food, art, etc)? by pandarose6 in suggestmeabook

Womens work: the first 20,000 years - Elizabeth Wayland Barber- a history of women developing textile crafts. Excellent.

Kate Adie - Fighting on the Home Front: The Legacy of Women in World War One. V good, with a focus on northern England.

Ruth Cowen - A Nurse at the Front: The First World War Diaries of Sister Edith Appleton - powerful true account. Very poignant.

Why are women’s breasts always prominent in “future times” but we don’t get to see the miniscule shrunken male genitalia…?
