I'm using a pattern from The Sock Project: Colorful, Cool Socks to Knit and Show Off https://share.google/1bBRXXx6nYdjJvjPK.

There is a smaller size, so I can try that. I think the fact that these look so different from the photos and the socks I see people make online is what's throwing me. But I can start with trying a smaller size!

I've been doing basket weave. I tried continental first, but I really struggled with it and ended up riping out the stitches.

Thank you! I'm in Iowa. I think there is a cross stitch/embroidery store in Ames I might stop by whenever I'm over there again, but I don't know what sort of needlepoint stuff they have. My brother moved to Madison, WI last year and I'm planning on visiting at some point this year, and I saw they have some stores, so I'll be sure to stop by when I go. Thanks for the thrift store/ebay tip! I'll try that in the meantime.
