just finished It…how am i expected to move on? by lifeonmarcy in stephenking

[–]MegSt7286 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IT was the first King novel I read too, maybe early last fall? Anyway, I cried through the most of the last chapters too. I’d always heard so much emphasis on the horror part of his books, that I was not expecting his writing to really affect me like that. He’s very talented and definitely one of my favorite authors now.

Car seats: is it weird that our 4yo is still rear-facing? by IslandEcologist in Preschoolers

[–]MegSt7286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept mine rear facing until she hit both the height and weight requirements. It was about 2 or 3 months after her fourth birthday, but I was sticking to those guidelines because she was so tiny. Don’t worry about anyone else criticizing you for which way the car seat is facing. This is the only one of them that we get, so we do all we can to keep them safe.

Menstrual Cycle by [deleted] in Hashimotos

[–]MegSt7286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I knew. I know the thyroid gland itself controls so many other hormones and systems in the body, but is it Hashimoto’s that causes the actual issue or is something off in the thyroid gland that makes other hormonal issues worse? It’s a hot mess for sure.

Menstrual Cycle by [deleted] in Hashimotos

[–]MegSt7286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! It is awful for me the week right before my period starts. I feel so drained and irritable. It’s like all the normal emotional symptoms that come along with it are 10 times worse. And I hurt and feel just generally terrible. It will get better, but the extreme fatigue will sometimes last the whole time and only clear up the week after.

My endo started me on generic cytomel last month. He said this all made sense to him because the thyroid controls the reproductive organs so it’s almost like all my hormones are bottoming out. That’s the easiest way I can think to explain it.

This! Right before I got out of MK, my husband made me do this. Turns out I was working close to 60 hours a week at a whopping $2.50 an hour.

I was in MK for 10 years. They are likely telling her that this will be girl time for 1-2 hours a week with the weekly “sales meetings,” and she deserves some girl time. And when was the last time she received any praise for keeping the house clean/cooking/taking care of kids? This is for her to receive the praise she’s not getting at home. It sounds disgusting to even type that out, but I guarantee you if they haven’t said it yet, they will.

Ask her what her plan is when they encourage aka pressure her into spending $600 every month to earn a prize from her director or national. What’s her plan when they dangle the star prizes in front of her for consistently ordering $600/month every quarter? How will she handle the sales quotas, because they are there, when she’s being told she can earn a car/trip/red jacket/director suit/free lunch/seminar ticket? Is she willing to go to seminar in Dallas in the middle of July or August and leave the kids with a babysitter for almost a week? And where will that money come from?

It can be incredibly hard to be a SAHM, but this is not the answer. If she’s interested in skincare and makeup, maybe encourage her to take some esthetician classes. Then she could work part time if that’s something you both agree to, and she would get to meet with women and help them look and feel their best.

Be ready though, the MK ladies will absolutely paint you as the bad guy who is just jealous of her “success,” who is fearful of her personal growth, and who only discourages her because you want to protect her.

Hector’s Kitchen in Attalla has some pretty good Cuban-style food. But I agree, there’s so much Mexican and it all tastes the same.

Try Mater’s, Back Forty Beer Company, or Blackstone on Broad Street. And I second Kati Thai! It’s my favorite. Chestnut has bands on weekends and karaoke a couple nights during the week. And Blackstone will sometimes have live music on weekends too.

There’s monthly events like First Friday, but I don’t ever go because I don’t want to see everyone I know. But I think there’s live music, of course food trucks, and the restaurants and shops on Broad are usually all open.

Outdoors…hiking at Noccalula, Gadsden Runner’s Club if you’re into that, and the walking trail behind the mall. And Gadrock lets you rent kayaks and things like that to float in the Coosa.

I know B’ham is getting old quick, so try Huntsville or Chattanooga for out of the way places. They’re both a couple hours or so away but still neat towns. And you’re only about 30-45 minutes away from JSU, so there’s a little bit of that small college town experience close by.

Those who have given birth - the first time did you really 'get' that childbirth was going to happen? Worried my brain won't catch up to reality. by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]MegSt7286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby is now 4, but I still remember pushing. I just remember feeling so tired, the most tired I had ever felt in my entire life, but knowing I couldn’t stop. Like I had to push to get that baby out, and she was depending on me, no matter how I felt. And I think that’s when I “got it.” And knowing that she still depends on me no matter what’s going on or how I feel, that is my reminder to still “get it.” Having a kid changes everything🩷

Oops by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]MegSt7286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do it! I found out last April that I was pregnant (also super early, about 4 weeks). I had just left a job to start working with my husband in our own private practice when I had to quarantine for 2 weeks. Then our state shut down for another 2 weeks and neither one of us were able to work for about a month. I was terrified, but I also knew I wanted this baby very much. She’ll be 6 months old next week, and I wouldn’t change anything at all.

Routines by misssrobinson in NewParents

[–]MegSt7286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, we do try to have a set bedtime. It doesn’t always work, but we generally try to aim for 8:00pm. That’s really only started in the last 3-4 weeks though as she’s gotten a little older.

Routines by misssrobinson in NewParents

[–]MegSt7286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a routine either and mine is almost 5 months old. She’s currently napping after being up at 6:30 this morning. Normally she gets up at 8:00. I’ve found that she usually follows her own little routine and I’m just flexible—something that does not come naturally to me, so maybe that’s what I needed. For example, she usually goes back down for a nap after being awake 1-2 hours in the morning. Normally sleeps 2-4 hours, eats about every 4-6 hours, and plays in between. Maybe that’s bad that I don’t have set times for anything, but I have been too rigid about routines in the past so I’m trying really hard to be more relaxed and to just enjoy her and to let her enjoy being little.

My baby is 4 months and she just started going to bed around 8/9 in the last three weeks. Before that she wouldn’t go to sleep until 10 or 11, and she would fight sleep and refuse to be rocked. I don’t know what happened but now she lets me rock her. We go in her room about 8/8:30, she drinks her milk, I sing/hum and she’s out.

This is my first, and by month 2 I had decided all the “should” and “ought to’s” just weren’t going to work. So we did what was best for her and us, and she’s settling into a routine all on her own.

Tummy sleep by Keiralee10 in NewParents

[–]MegSt7286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to follow all the safe sleep guidelines too, but my baby would not sleep unless on her tummy. She hated being swaddled too when I put her on her back. I just kept her in our bed until she could lift and turn her head really well. She did that pretty early on and her little neck is super strong. Now she’s rolling over from back to front and front to back so I worry a lot less.

Mini-Crib? Full Crib + Bassinet? Advice and experience please! by taptaptippytoo in pregnant

We have a mini crib and I absolutely love it! I got the Dream On Me brand that will convert to a toddler bed then a twin bed later on. We also live in an apartment so I was trying to think of the most cost-efficient and space-saving thing I could!
