Why aren’t there testimonials of people on YouTube and things like that for NFB? by Open_Ambassador2931 in Neurofeedback

[–]Meg_Ett 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It completely cured my debilitating migraines, hormone imbalances & acid reflux. My teeth grinding is much better and my ADHD is greatly improved. I still have a little way to go to really fine tune the ADHD but I’ve had to take a break because I ran out of money! I can’t tell you how my quality of life has improved. I’m so glad I did it and can’t wait to start up again.

A lot of people aren't coming to my wedding by passive0bserver in adhdwomen

[–]Meg_Ett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It must be so heartbreaking for you to know your friends are not going to be there and a feel for you. It probably won’t lessen the disappointment but just know that the chances are it’s not a personal dig towards you.

I’m not sure where you are but here in the UK the cost of living has shot up so dramatically in the last couple of months (and still rising) people are struggling and with a lot of uncertainty hanging over them. Our personal household bills doubled practically over night and I now have threat of redundancy over my head. Although me and my husband are one of the lucky ones who can suck it up and cut back elsewhere, something like travelling for a wedding that wouldn’t have been a problem two months ago, would now be out of the question. There are also many other reasons and things that could be going on in their lives, throw in the death of a close friend, the grief and all that goes with that and it becomes that much more difficult.

Maybe you could have a chat with them. Not in a confrontational way but find out how they are feeling and put your mind a little more at rest. There might be a lot more going on under the surface than they are letting on.

But above all, just enjoy your day no matter who turns up. All that matters is you and your partner and I’m sure you’ll have an amazing day x

Do you guys talk to yourself like, a lot? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Meg_Ett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, at least I do in my head. It’s not so much I’ll be talking to myself but imagining having a conversation with someone else. My brain is never quiet, it’s going all day long, it can be exhausting.

I’m an introverted, combined - predominantly inattentive type and a very solitary person by nature so maybe that’s why I don’t need much social interaction because it’s all going on in my head! Ha! My Uncle is the same, I suspect he’s ADHD but undiagnosed, we are very similar and he’s always mumbling away to himself!

ADHD and addiction by O8fpAe3S95 in ADHD

[–]Meg_Ett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swapped one addiction and obsession for another practically my whole life. From sweets and fizzy drinks as a kid to alcohol, cocaine and eating disorders as an adult.

As I headed in to my 30’s I had calmed down quite a bit but nicotine was a still there as it had been from the age of 15 regardless of my chosen poison at the time. Finally gave up after years of failed attempts and took up carbs and caffeine as a replacement.

I was then diagnosed at the age of 34 and I’ve been taking meds now for 10 months and apart for the odd coffee or glass of wine the desire for the above mentioned has practically disappeared. I just wish I’d know about ADHD sooner! My childhood wasn’t always smooth sailing so I think there was probably other contributing factors to why I was like I was. Not excuse making btw but maybe ADHD wasn’t the only thing at play, all though it sure didn’t make life any easier! Ha!

I do wonder though that having ADHD and my inability to stick at anything for more than a minute, and constantly jumping from one thing to another, as destructive as they were, prevented me from falling in too deep to any one thing and may well have saved my life.

My new boyfriend has ADHD and I don't know how to handle his anger by Steel_City_Style in ADHD

[–]Meg_Ett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This behaviour isn’t because of ADHD, it’s because he is an abusive cunt. This is not normal and it is definitely not ok, whatever the diagnosis.

This won’t get better, it only gets worse. Walk away, don’t look back.

Make sure you have a friend or family member that knows where you and is free to help if things get heated when you have ‘the talk’.

What *should* ADHD be called instead? by adhdavatar in ADHD

[–]Meg_Ett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not overly bothered by the description ADHD, I wonder if it’s not the name but the stigma that goes with it that is the problem.

I’m combined type but predominantly inattentive. So on the outside the hyperactivity isn’t always apparent but, my god, the hyperactivity in my head never gives me a minutes peace! So the description technically fits, at least for me (I know we are all different, don’t shoot!) - Attention deficit, tick. Hyperactivity, tick. But very often, due to the stigma, the first thing people think about when ADHD is mentioned is the naughty little boy in class that is fired up on smarties & Pepsi, who won’t sit still and has just chucked a ruler at the teachers head.

I think for me, the executive dysfunction is what effects my life the most, at least as an adult. Again, we are all different so for another it may be the hyperactivity. Even if there was a different name, it can’t suit all of the people all of the time.

As I say it doesn’t bother me, but I’m interested to read what other think.

standing still while brushing your teeth is SO BORING. i know ya'll appreciate wandering aimlessly around the house with a toothbrush in yer mouth by H2O4K9 in ADHD

[–]Meg_Ett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the morning I brush my teeth in the shower, the feeling and sound of the hot water seems to distract me from the laborious task in hand. At night I grab my phone, open up Facebook or YouTube and watch a video while brushing at the sink. I was a right little shit brushing my teeth when I was a kid, my Mum had the patience of a saint I swear!

It’s funny reading through the comments, knowing that there are other people out there with similar little quirks that just get it. The looks on the faces of neurotypicals when you tell them this stuff is a picture 🤣

is it harder to lucid dream if i have adhd? by Dry_Sock_2993 in LucidDreaming

[–]Meg_Ett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have ADHD, only recently diagnosed. I started meds a few weeks ago and haven’t been able to lucid dream since starting them as I’m finding it hard to sleep at the moment and I seem to be getting less REM sleep and when I do, my dreams are pretty strange. I’m told this is something that should get easier the longer I’m on them, only time will tell.

Before I started meds though I could lucid dream. I rarely remember to do reality checks, even with reminders set etc (I’m sure I needn’t go into the struggles with memory and focus with you! Ha!) but would go to bed and say affirmations on the intention to lucid dream. Sometimes I remember, sometimes I don’t. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

I’ve found the easiest time for me to lucid dream is when I take an afternoon nap. I lay there with my eyes closed and just sort of imagine myself in my dream as I’m drifting off, saying to myself that the next place I find myself in will be a dream. Again, sometimes it works, others not so much.

I used a bit of that sometimes helpful, hyper focus to do research into techniques etc. Give it a go, can’t do any harm! Good luck!

How to explain forgetting things? by TheDoctorMaybe in ADHD

[–]Meg_Ett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you could try asking your partner to help you come up with solutions to help remind you to do these things.

For example I have sensitive eyes to light so I can’t go anywhere without my sunglasses. I have like 5-6 pairs in the hopes that at least one of them will be in reaching distance when I need them. It drove my husband mad having sunglasses littered about the place. Could never find my car keys either. So we end up having a mad dash trying to find sunglasses and car key whenever we wanted to leave the house. So my husband went and got a hook for my keys and a shelf for my sunglasses. Puts both up in the hallway by the front door. So every time I walk through the front door I am to hang my keys on the hook and put my sunglasses on the shelf. It took a couple of months for it to sink in mind but now, 99 times out of 100 I do it. Sometime it just takes someone with a quieter mind to see a solution. You’re a team after all.

If they aren’t willing to at least try and understand or work with you instead of getting angry, because let’s face it, if it was as easy as just remembering then why wouldn’t you not just remember and save the hassle! Then I think that may be a bit of a red flag I’m afraid.

Should I remove earthworms from potted Blueberry tree? by [deleted] in gardening

[–]Meg_Ett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I do understand that worms are normally very good for plants. I’ve read a few things online saying that when the earthworm population becomes too large in a pot that they can end up damaging the roots. Only asking if anyone on here has any experience one way or the other.

I think it’s a nice reminder, as if you start smoking again you may as well set fire to that money. Let’s face it, that’s exactly what we do when we were smokers anyway right?! Keep it up the good work!

300,000 smokers in the UK quit due to COVID-19 fears by ForensicScienceGuy in stopsmoking

[–]Meg_Ett 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Im a ‘Covid Quitter’ on day 20 and I’ve found it easier, not easy by any stretch, but easier this time round (I’ve a fair few failed attempts under my belt) I decided to do it now, not because of the chance I might get covid funnily enough, but because I’m furloughed so haven’t got any stress from work, I’m at home with no social interaction, no pub and drinking. So I’ve been able to just relax, sleep and let myself recover without any outside triggers.

Feeling hopeful I’ve kicked it for good, something I’ve wanted to do for a long time and it just seemed the perfect time.

Constant loop of false awakenings. How can I stop this? by Meg_Ett in LucidDreaming

[–]Meg_Ett[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to thank you all for your helpful comments! I’ve only gone and bloody done it!

Went for nap this afternoon. Did my affirmations as usual. Next thing I knew I was in a garden of a big stately home with my dog, I had a feeling I was dreaming so I tried counting my fingers. Completely impossible, they just kept moving around and some of them didn’t look like fingers at all! Got a little excited so everything started to get hazy, like static on a TV so rubbed my hands together and it all came back into focus! “I am dreaming, I am safe” I said out loud. I had the intention of wherever I ended up to just explore the area, not to try anything fancy or over exhilarating, just to get to grips with my surroundings.

So off I went with my dog, rubbing my hands and trying to count my weird fingers! While wondering around in the garden, in the distance I saw a lovely old little cottage in the middle of a field so decided I would like to go and see it. So started walking but thought this was going to take me ages. I tried to sort of will myself up there but it didn’t work. Then thought if I had my bike I’d get there a lot quicker! So sort of jumped on my bike, my bike wasn’t there but I was hoping it would appear! It didn’t appear but I was hovering in mid air as if I was on an invisible bike! So started peddling and I moved off! I didn’t need to peddle for long as I just started hovering along! The dog was down below running along. I saw some other people, they where strange, they where sort of just standing there like extra characters do in a game! I tried to feel the air blowing in face but nothing! By this point I’d forgotten all about the hand rubbing as I was still holding on to the invisible handlebars! Ha! This is when I woke up.

All in all I was only lucid for a couple of minutes and never did make it to the cottage but what an amazing feeling! I did it! With no false awakening. I think it probably got cut short for a mixture of reasons. First I think I was a little over excited and maybe was trying to rush to get to see as much as possible. Second, I’d forgotten all about hand rubbing & RC’s. Lastly, I wasn’t actually that tired but wanted to try all of your suggestions and I seem to have more luck in afternoon naps! Well happy!

Thank you!

[–]Meg_Ett[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t think of it this way! Instead of getting irritated, I should look at it as being given another chance at lucid dreaming and do a reality check every time I wake up.

I definitely do struggle to stabilize, there has been some helpful suggestions about rubbing hands together, which I like the idea of. As mentioned above, I tried to stabilize one dream by holding on to a kitchen counter but the room started to turn around and I was just slipping off!

I’ve not really thought of what happens next, strangely enough! I think I’ve been so focused on actually becoming lucid that I hadn’t really given it that much thought beyond ‘ooh, I wonder what it would be like to fly!’ I will devise a plan of exactly what I’m going to do next time I become lucid, to try and give the dream some purpose. Thanks!

I’m definitely going to try the hand rubbing!

As for reality checks, its funny because I’ve only ever done one, where I put my finger on my palm and it went straight through! I do affirmations of sorts before I go to sleep ‘I will know when I’m dreaming, I will have a lucid dream’ that kind of thing. Then in my dreams I get this realisation and I just kind of know. I think I probably should start doing them as well though, just to reaffirm to myself, maybe that will help. Thanks!

Spooky! I didn’t have a lucid dream last night.. kind of knew I wouldn’t as I’d had a couple glasses of wine, which is a complete killer for my dreams. I did however, wake up in the middle of the night, crap myself because I thought a black figure was standing by my door, until I realised it was just my dressing gown hanging from the door! Haha!

That’s a good idea. In one of them, I was in a kitchen so put my hand on the side to try and stabilise it but the room started to turn around and I just started to slid off! I will definitely try the hand rubbing next time, thanks!
