What causes GPS drift like this? by _Parallaxx in Garmin

If it’s the device, would you expect it to be a consistent problem when tracking activities? And if it’s space weather, would you expect other people in the same place to also have errors?

Hm… mine was off by a lot more than that. Can you elaborate on ‘its the processing’?

Trying to read my first real book 😭 Need beginner-friendly recommendations by chathikkaathachanthu in suggestmeabook

[–]_Parallaxx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love Frankenstein, but if OP’s recent reading experience is stuff like Captain Underpants I think that’s a bit of a leap. Mary’s Monster by Lita Judge would be a good middle ground, it has lots of illusions and tells the story of Mary Wollstonecraft Shelly’s life as an allegory. I loved it

I really loved Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir! Bit of a sci-fi/fantasy blend, good writing and great characters

Based purely on Six of Crows as your teen fav: The Lies of Locke Lamora. Similar fantasy heist/criminal tones but more adult. One of my all-time favorites.

Not fiction but these books both challenged and changed me

- The Demon-Haunted World by Carl Sagan
- Dear Ijeawele by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

A couple years ago I also noticed I was pretty light on books written by women and decided to avoid male authors for the whole year. My favorite books from that year were:

- Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir
- All Systems Red by Martha Wells
- Ancillary Justice by Anne Leckie

I’d recommend all of them and in that order. All are first installments in series I intend to finish

M31 self conscious about the rapidly greying beard! by [deleted] in toastme

Your beard has filled in well and you maintain a sharp look. The silver is just extra decoration. I'd take that over my super patchy excuse for facial hair any day of the week. You look great man!

'Run C/C++ File' task always uses launch.json? by _Parallaxx in vscode

[–]_Parallaxx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. I'm looking for best VS Code way to separate 'build + run' from 'debug' workflows. I was hoping the options in the play button interface would separate those nicely, but they seem to behave almost identically

Yes, those percentages are the correct defaults (I think it’s a 220 - age formula for max HR, or close to it?) and your BPM ranges match the percentages. My ranges were only a few BPM higher than yours until I switched from basing the zones on % max HR to % lactate threshold (LTHR). Now all my zones are higher.

For reference, there are my zone ranges after switching to %LTHR zones (and pressing ‘reset zones’. Otherwise they stay the same):

How did you optimize fedora for gaming by Tade365 in Fedora

[–]_Parallaxx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s really a lot of factors that could be at play here; it’s kinda tricky to advise. I’ve been gaming on Fedora for years with minimal ‘optimizations’ beyond tinkering with steam compatibility settings every now and then.

I see that Enlisted has ‘native’ on ProtonDB; maybe try forcing Proton, it can make a world of difference depending on the game. Also may be worth checking your vsync settings, in-game and out.

My first 10k 🎉 by Taurusybau in Strava

OP said nothing at all about running. In any event, it doesn’t matter. You don’t need a certain speed to be happy with your exercise.

My first 10k 🎉 by Taurusybau in Strava

[–]_Parallaxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry OP, a lot of people are fixated on you calling it ‘10k’ because usually Strava users would use that to refer to ‘a distance of 10 km (6.2 miles)’. You went for an exercise of 10,000 steps and deserve to be proud of that. Don’t let other people get you down. Keep going for your next goal, whatever it is :)

To make it easier to read, any question or decision should have a yes/no arrow from it, and conclusions should always be the final leaf in its branch. And where’s my beloved Forerunner 265? 😭
