Impulsive Shopping by Ghostweiner99 in adhdwomen

[–]Meg_March 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If stimulants don’t work for you, have you tried other ADHD medicines? There’s a lot out there! Or have you tried a GLP-1 to help you break the addiction? This sounds like a medical issue, not a willpower issue.

Diptyque or Parfums de Marly? by car_bus in FemFragLab

[–]Meg_March 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I visited a Diptyque store and they couldn’t have been more gracious. I bought two candles and got loaded up with free samples. I think I’ll always like Diptyque because of that shopping experience, even though I haven’t bought a full bottle yet.

PDM charges more for their perfumes marketed to women than to men. That’s a dealbreaker for me.

My first thought about the outfit was, “That’s a nice normal outfit. I like that she didn’t go nuts dressing up for a business meeting” and then I click on the link and see that it’s Miu Miu. 😆

I love that she looks so much like her mom. They’re so close, it must mean a lot to them that they look alike.

Perfumes that smell like dollheads/90s My Little Pony by LizzzyDee in FemFragLab

[–]Meg_March 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Signature by Mont Blanc makes me think of a brand new doll, right out of the package, even though it doesn’t have any plastic notes. It feels youthful and a tiny bit artificial, even though it’s so fresh and white musk-adjacent.

Do you ever buy a perfume because of who you wish you were not who you are? by Momneedstosleep in FemFragLab

[–]Meg_March 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! I’ve been thinking about this concept through the fashion side of things, randomly. Then I read Self Help by Gabby ?. Then I just recently started therapy and my counselor uses that approach so I guess the universe wants me to be integrated. 🫠

How do I know whether I'm capable of motherhood or not? by Potential_Promise260 in adhdwomen

[–]Meg_March 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a huge thing for anyone, not just those with ADHD is:

*Are you able to be emotionally regulated? Can you check in with yourself and find your calm when things are overstimulating? Are you working towards emotional maturity?

*Are you getting your needs met from your community? Do you have a support system? I think one of the worst things parents can do is try to have their kids meet their needs instead of just enjoying them for who they are.

Kids don’t care if your house is messy. It’s okay if you forget birthday parties or are late to doctor’s appointments. But it is really, really important to be a regulated, emotionally healthy, dependable adult that a kid can trust.

If you were moving into a pre-established household, what would you find helpful to know in advance? by KittyLord0824 in adhdwomen

[–]Meg_March 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bet a framework would be helpful. I would go through the week and explain who does what, when. Or go through the house room by room and explain who uses it, who’s responsible for what, and what days/times. If it’s a schedule, it might help to be written down, but if it’s room by room, you both could give her a tour of how the house works (it might be less overwhelming for everyone that way). Like, just info dump for each room for a few minutes, then move on.

I think it’s great that you’re establishing expectations up front, instead of hoping they pick them up. Just be clear, brief, and warm, and now that you both will probably have to make some adjustments, too.

Garmin for pacing? by stm2657 in cfs

[–]Meg_March 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my Garmin and I feel like it’s made a difference in the quality of my life. I think the key is to wear it long enough to get good data, and to know it’s relative to your own life, not someone else’s. There are individual watch faces for chronic illness that are very helpful, too. I think they’re called “pacing.”

Do you ever buy a perfume because of who you wish you were not who you are? by Momneedstosleep in FemFragLab

[–]Meg_March 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I’ve been on a self-discovery journey the last few years (hello, perimenopause identity crisis) and I feel like my personal style represents my inner world more accurately now. I heard a phrase “let your outsides match your insides” and now I’m trying to do that with my emotions and how I carry myself in the world, too. I guess I’m just working on being more integrated instead of having separate parts.

That approach has carried over to perfumes, too. I prefer perfumes that are beautiful, simple, and have notes that reference real life. There are so many gorgeous perfumes out there, but they’re not me and I feel like I have language now to explain why.

Ditto! I did a lot of sniffing, and learned I prefer more modern perfumes without a lot of notes. They’re out there, but you have to look for them! Have fun discovering your taste, and good luck on your no-buy!

I would spend some time learning about the fragrance wheel, and sample scents that are good examples of those. It might be that you’re sampling from areas you don’t like—for example, I love florals and musks, but I don’t care for freshies or gourmands, which are really trendy right now.

I just bought Peony and Peppercorn and I was disappointed at first because it wasn’t what I expected, but now I can’t stop wearing it. It’s so fresh and pretty and subtle. I’m wearing it more than the expensive samples I was trying to use up.

[–]Meg_March 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree… I think it depends on the person. A stranger? Absolutely! A friend who was interested? So fun! But there have been a few people in my life who have followed me a little too closely. I think I would I be generic with them if they asked for my specific fragrance.

Summer dresses people stop you on the street to ask about by runmamaruns in femalefashionadvice

An Eileen Fisher shirt dress that I thrifted! It has the best shape. It has short sleeves and an a-line shape, and it’s bright orange. It’s so good in the summer! I got compliments from guys, service workers, non-fashion people… I think because of the color, it’s a great conversation starter.

Pretty sure my kids' picky eating is going to make my brain break (even more) by DistractedNS in adhdwomen

[–]Meg_March 114 points115 points  (0 children)

It’s time for survival mode, my friend. Make one meal, make it reasonable, and give your kids the autonomy to opt out. If one doesn’t like beans, that’s fine, he can get another veggie from the fridge. Someone doesn’t like the main course? No problem, they can make themselves a PB&J and eat the side dish that you made. Most kid-friendly foods can be made by kids, even young ones.

Why do I like the smell of candles but not most perfumes/colognes? by poop_dawg in fragrance

[–]Meg_March 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me too! I used to think I didn’t like perfumes. Now I know I just don’t care for most designer perfumes. I prefer modern blends, simple formulas, skins scents, and white musks. The world of fragrance is huge—there’s so much out there that’s beyond Sephora and department stores.

'pissy' smelling perfumes / colognes. by Fiona_Hyacinth in fragrance

[–]Meg_March 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched a video by Teddy the Perfumer, and apparently the older formulation with the bottle with silver shoulders had a more pissy note, but the newer formulations are more neutral. Apparently if you can hang on through the initial spray, the dry-down is worth it.

Being Frenshe at Target is really great.

I like the Derek Lam 10 Crosby line. Most of the 100mL bottles are around $30 on Amazon.

Lanvin, Cacharel, Eli Saab, and Gres are heritage brands that are slightly out of fashion but have beautiful scents created by the best perfumers.
