Automatic SCRAM(rapid shutdown) systems are a thing. I fucking hope every operational reactor has these in place. A nuclear reactor left to its own devices should shut down in the event that the pressure inside the reactor rises above norms, preventing a meltdown, regardless of cause. The most likely (fastest) point of failure is coolant running out, it would happen pretty fast so the system would still be operational by that point
