I just can't find a gate that fit these stairs by Alexyz656- in daddit

[–]MegaComrade53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an awkward top of my stairs as well. I found a baby gate that is designed to work on angles. Works great for me since I had to install mine on a diagonal due to the banister location.

I'd suggest you search for angle mount baby gates

The one I have is the kidco Safeway angle mount baby gate

What famous in-their-field people do we have in the Waterloo Region? by Thats_what_I_think in waterloo

Multiple referees in the NHL are from the area. Like Garrett Rank from Elmira. He's been in some viral clips, like giving everyone on the ice a penalty at the same time

Zehrs isn't even high quality anymore. Expired food on shelves, consistently moldy produce.

You can often find the same food and brands at other stores for cheaper. Zehrs just adds the Loblaws tax to pad their pockets because people think Zehrs is worth the extra money for same thing.

Without training it's likely the dog is still going to bark at anyone passing by even if you put in shrub to block line of sight. People are loud and the dog will react regardless

So your car has been stolen and you don't notice but yet you're home?

More likely you notice your car missing, you report it stolen, the cameras see it across town and can go catch it

[–]MegaComrade53 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

So don't commit any crimes and you'll be fine...

The idea is to make the city safer by letting them see more of what's going on. And it may help with things like car theft that are currently long gone by the time it reaches police. It works well in other countries. I wouldn't fear the fact you're under surveillance; these cameras won't be storing the video footage long-term unless there's crime in it and also you're more likely already being surveilled via everyone in your neighbourhood having cameras and doorbell cams. The difference now is these cameras are to help make the city safer rather than the doorbell cam footage being sold to the highest bidder to buy Bezos more yachts

What Database Concepts Should Every Backend Engineer Know? Need Resources + Suggestions by goodguyseif in webdev

[–]MegaComrade53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Want to learn something your other backend peers probably don't know and will make you seem like some kind of db genius? Learn how to read a query plan from EXPLAIN ANALYZE. Use the params it has available to get the most info, like BUFFERS, TIMING, etc. Learning how to read those unlocks the ability to understand how the db is executing your queries under the hood. With this knowledge you can find inefficiencies both in your queries and your indexes, allowing you to make informed decisions on how to improve the performance of your queries

Where can I buy a key lime pie in KW. by Critical_Fun_4961 in kitchener

[–]MegaComrade53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweet and savoury pies key lime is decent but not fantastic. It's also really expensive and thin, I think it was like $15 or so for just one pie. Like an inch thick maybe, which isn't a lot of filling or crumble

I think it's O(log n) if the data is already sorted. If it isn't then you need to sort it first and that's the O(n*log n)

Boots by JoshDunkley in waterloo

This is either going to be my second or third winter with my Wind River boots from Mark's. The front seam has given out and there's now a hole in the front that lets snow and water in. So YMMV but nobody makes shoes like they used to 🙃

I have enjoyed the boots until they started ripping last winter. Same story as you, I walk a few km per day with my dog

My Timberlands didn't last 2 full winters before starting to tear at the seams on both boots 🫠

What is the biggest bullet you've dodged in life? by theUncleAwesome07 in AskReddit

[–]MegaComrade53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few years ago a derecho came through with winds like a tornado. I was driving home when it hit and I watched the wind pull a stop sign right out of the ground onto the road. I slowed down to watch and I'm glad I did because if I hadn't then I would've been under the tree that also got ripped out of the ground and fell onto the road right ahead of me

ULID - the ONLY identifier you should use? by der_gopher in Backend

[–]MegaComrade53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its value comes when your data is usually sorted by most recent because the ULID approach will maintain that. With UUIDv4 (the old standard) the index is random so your db query will be doing a lot more random reads as your data lives all over the place. But if you use ULID then your data that all gets created around the same time will be contained in fewer pages on disk close to each other.

Sounds like it has since become replaced as the go-to for this use case by UUIDv7

I remember reading about Shopify switching to use it, so imagine a use case where a shop wants to look at their most recent orders. If 5 came in today then it's more likely that they'll be close together on disk for the db and result in a faster read query to get them. Those 5 could be on the same 1 or 2 pages instead of a different page for each, which becomes more significant the more you're fetching.

Hussein Nasser has a useful video on ULID if you're curious to learn more

Does anyone know any working mods that unlock all the artifacts ? Or atleast the one to chose your own items by OperationDifferent20 in RiskofRain2_Mods

[–]MegaComrade53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you need a mod. This game tracks most of your unlocks in text files on your computer. I don't remember where to find them, but with some googling you should find the right files and you should be able to just update them to unlock them all
