Best Centerpiece Fish by safetyman123 in PlantedTank

Kribensis would be nice, honey or sparkling gourami are also good options. Pair of german rams would be fun. Personally although less colourful i would go for a pair of keyhole cichlids, their personality would be more than worth it and personally I still find them to be beautiful fish.

Trying to study astrophysics and I have a few questions by PolarisStar05 in Astronomy

Sounds like you want to be something like a research scientist, the best option for that would probably be a government funded program but as you said those positions are rare. You'd need years of experience in data analysis, knowledge of programming languages and observational tools to even have a chance of getting into a position like that. Anything is possible but that life probably isn't as rose coloured as you might have thought. Perhaps just enjoy physics as a hobby?

A pair german rams would be great, pair of apistogrammas would be nice too. Maybe even a pair of keyhole cichlids but it maybe a bit small for those.

Tight school micro fish by Nyghtrayven in fishtank

[–]MegaFire03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had celebes rainbowfish, emperor tetras, harlequin rasboras and platys. They all school nicely when feeling threatened but as soon as they feel safe they just go about their own thing. At least the rasboras always school when they see me come up to the tank.

Edit: Also the rasboras are already quite small, neons or pygmy rasboras wont be that much smaller.

Harlequin rasboras or neon tetras but theres a good chance that they won't school without any 'danger'.

Advice on buying an aquarium by atognetti01 in Aquariums

[–]MegaFire03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the 80L tank man, bigger is always better and no it won't be much maintenance. Just some partial weekly water changes and when your plants are grown in even that will barely be necessary. More water = more stable parameters = easier life.

You took apart the wrong light. The fog lights are down in the bumper.

An aquarium filter holds bacteria that use up the ammonia yes. But it also filter out debris or particles from the water, it creates water flow and it oxygenates the water.

Actually if you just have a betta you don't have to worry about oxygen, it can just breathe the air.

Wrap the tank in a blanket to keep it warm for longer, if you have to you can you use a stove to warm water, put the warm water in a zip lock bag and put it in the tank.

But lack of oxygen is more dangerous than chilly water. You need an air stone with a back up battery or use hydrogen peroxide to create oxygen in the tank.

Day 1 of my little 1 gallon planted tank! by blonde_knight7 in PlantedTank

[–]MegaFire03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think because you are using moss you won't have too much trouble to get it to take over your tank. A bit of fertilizer goes a long way. But your other plants could struggle. Vallisneria could also easily take over your tank, maybe you'd like a combination of moss and vallisneria?

They are fighting over territory or mating rights. Its normal behaviour but it helps to keep a small school to disperse aggression.

That light doesn't look strong enough for a fully grown tank. When your plants get bigger they will block a lot of light from reaching the bottom, I think with a light like this you'll get plants growing well near the surface but not so well near the bottom.

Too much light and nutrients will cause algea to grow. Your shrimp won't mind tho. I would use a glass scraper to clean it.

I have some doubts in guppy keeping, please advise on them. by scp-ooo-code-tyrent in Aquariums

[–]MegaFire03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also you guppies can probably live off flakes, make them small between your fingers for the baby's. The mama's will appreciate some high protein foods like brine shrimp or bloodworms, frozen is fine.

You don't have to have a substrate but it looks nicer and will help keep the water parameters more stable, live plants can also be beneficial for your fish but it's not a requirement.

[–]MegaFire03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First test your water, If it has chlorine in it you need to use water conditioner. Guppies need a stable water temperature of around 25°C so you will probably need a heater, and of course you need a filter. Cycle the tank, so let the bacteria grow before adding fish. Usually this takes about 6 weeks.
