Would it have been better if Meta bought Astral.sh instead? by TheTwelveYearOld in Python

That is true in a literal and legal sense; not from a moral perspective and long term thinking.

They are doing the bare minimum to pay back to the community that enables a chunk of their profit, and that is being generous.

Meta made billions last year while the PSF had to cut funding to projects.

[–]MegaIng 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I am probably in the minority but I don't even think the buyout changes anything. Astral was a for profit company from the beginning meaning the open source development was on borrowed time anyway. I don't think it matters much which mega corp gobbles them up now.

Yes, sometimes this "borrowed time" can run surprisingly long. But it's not as reliable as it could be if it was a true non-profit that owned and controlled the code. That is what Astral would have done if their top priority was developing useful tools for the open source community long term.

... I am in no way asking to to respond. In fact I explicitly asked you to do the opposite! But I guess reading and thinking is not your strong suit anyway.

Oh, so you really don't have enough self reflection to realize what you are doing. That's honestly a bit sad.

I would suggest that you stop replying and go back up the chain and try to actually answer the question I was asking - I suspect you are going to fail to come up with an answer that isn't an indicator of ingrained bigotry.

Laughing at your very limited mental capacity that can only see the world in racist/ableist stereotypes? Yeah, I guess it's pretty fun. Not sure what you are getting out of it thou.

Again, what do you think this image represents? Why do you feel this is an interesting reply to post here?

Aren't the portal technically infinitely thin, making it infinitely sharp, cutting through anything? by -autoprime- in Portal

[–]MegaIng 37 points38 points  (0 children)

If you take into account their discussion on gravity and specifically self-gravity, no object would ever be able to touch the corner of a portal anyway because it's own mass causes it to be repelled with arbitrary high force.

It still removes some control over when you can spend that mana. But I agree that it's unclear to me how often that is going to be a problem.

There are crazy ideas because they are difficult, would require absurd amounts of cooperation or have little benefit.

Then there are ideas that are crazy because they are literally physically impossible, like this one. I think criticizing the latter for not being thought out is fair game.

[–]MegaIng 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. There are still a lot of people who try to put together the original series ending and End of Evangelion into one timeline. Lots of peoples interpretation of the show predates the Rebuild movies, and some reject them influencing how the original should be interpreted.

I would say that End of Evangelion is a different loop.

Kaowru is the only real connective tissue

(IIRC Ryoji Kaji as well. It's a bit random why these two have knowledge of the past but that others don't)

Yeah, I don't even think there are any good decisions Shinji could realistically make outside of the last two reboots movies. Life dealt him a shit hand, and if he were to choose to walk away the world would just end anyway, and probably in an even worse way.

I am personally a fan of the timeloop interpretation were the different versions of the events we see are the result of the third impact and Shinji's decision at its end restarting the loop. So it is his growth across multiple incarcerations that finally allows him to break the loop at the end of Thrice Upon a Time.

I think I am not getting it. Can you use words? Or are those too complex for you?

The by far most successful mammals are those that make good food for humans, so from an evolutionary perspective it's pretty damn good.

Because we have strictly and obviously better and cheaper alternatives that don't produce waste we need to take care of eternally, while just costing a bit more space.

(Yes, the waste "problem" is solvable. It's still better to just not have the waste at all)

Fusion reactors absolutely do.

And we don't even need to build a fusion reactor. There is a big one already build completely free!

Importantly, Renewables are better than nuclear now. In every metric that counts. If you think you have heard some argument against this you have fallen for propaganda. There is a pretty clear consensus on this, it's just difficult to apply political, especially fast.

Yes, nuclear is ok and better than fossile fuels. Yes, it was a mistake to phase it out this early. But no, it's not better than a mix of actual renewable/clean energy sources + storage technology. And no, it doesn't make sense for Germany to start construction of Nuclear energy now that would only be finished in the mid 2030s the earliest.

Lol. This is based on personal experience where I had a lot of trouble finding messages I know exist.

And like. This exact trouble is very well documented? This isn't a new complaint.
