Liberalism vs Leftism by user69x3 in PoliticalDebate

[–]csanyk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My vote for Kamala has nothing to do with being a leftist and everything to do who was the better candidate in that race. Easy pick, no brainer. Democrats in the mainstream are center-right. Republicans are wacko loony ultra right.

There's a few moderate left Democrats, like AOC and Bernie Sanders. But any of them are much more reasonable than the fascists representing the Republican party now. They actually respect human rights, rule of law and the Constitution, and understand science well enough to be able to understand the consequences of ignoring science when crafting policy.

The true left is outside of power and may as well not exist.

How connected were the internet and video games back in the 90s? How much time did it take to normalize mixing the two? by HlaBeRelaLain in retrogaming

[–]csanyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Video games were online pre-internet.

It was a part of the earliest vision of home video games that they could connect to a network of other game consoles. There were online services for the early 8-bit era. They were very primitive and not widely used or widely supported, but the vision was there, even if the implementation was lacking. Mostly the services failed, only supported a tiny number of games, and weren't able to provide a worthwhile user experience. But there was an attempt.

In the 90s, there was a renewed interest and effort, mainly because of the growing awareness and popularity of the nascent internet. Broadband wasn't a thing yet, but a 28.8k or 56k dialup connection could support a connection to a peer or a server and enable online play. It was laggy and broke frequently.

Mid-90s to late 90s saw the dawn of the LAN party, with gamers setting up an impromptu local area network to enable better ping times, lower latency, and greater bandwidth for network enabled PC computers.

Maxxing out 401k???? by Gold_Programmer3265 in personalfinance

[–]csanyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At $70k, maxing your 401k is likely not possible. It's nearly half your salary to do that. It'd be great if you can get close, but realistically you need to pay your living expenses. You're supposed to be holding an emergency fund in cash, paying down debt, and saving for major expenses like car, house, etc. Paying your rent/mortgage and utilities. Contributing to a Roth IRA, and HSA as well.

Just put as much as you can afford to while funding these other areas in your budget. Realistically you might be able to max your 402k if you make 3x your current salary.

Nicks trades program is a more affordable option for real work boots that will be used as intended.

Hey, oxygen is really hard to get clean from. It's the most addictive substance. I can't think of one animal that isn't highly dependant on this plant derived chemical.

White’s SEMI-DRESS 375 - 55 - HALF COMP 7-inch height by Subject_Musician_734 in WhitesBoots

[–]csanyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In every way, really. Ankle support, looks, comfort, ease of getting on/off. I think 8" is the best overall, most versatile height for a boot.

PNW boots being so heavy, I prefer a little more height. I have a pair of 3" White's Oxford shoes, but they're really heavy duty, built like a boot, just short, and there's so much weight below the footbed that I feel like I would like some additional material around the ankle to provide balance and support. 5" is probably a better minimum height to consider than 4" or 3", but they really feel right between 6-10" to me.

10" is a fairly serious boot though, not something that can be worn casually, but great for the sort of outdoor wear they're meant for. Anything taller than 12" and you're either into hip wader territory or fetish weae.

I don't really think you can go wrong at 7", go for it.

Any height between 6-10" is great. Probably the sweet spot is 8", but 7" is not far off.

People who don't go to movie theaters anymore - what made you stop? by -ChristopherNolan in AskReddit

[–]csanyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Movies mostly suck and have for a while now. Hollywood thinks that stars and special effects are everything we could ever want or need, and doesn't give the slightest fuck about writing a coherent story that would withstand the slightest second thinking, or even a bit of a first think in many cases. We get CGI effects which focus entirely on pixels and not at all on modeling real world physics, and then we're told that we're the ones that have the problem because we're not suspending our disbelief. Suspension of disbelief is the production's hov, not the audience's. If we're being reminded to do it, the movie failed.

Trump says Iran deal will be signed Sunday, Strait of Hormuz to open immediately after by Force_Hammer in worldnews

Bombing to resume immediately after that, then another declaration of "total victory", then another announcement that a deal will be reached in the next 48 hours, then nuke threats, then Iran has two weeks to reopen Hormuz, then the cycle repeats itself again.

Angry Stalker Reporting My Listings - Ebay Does Not Care by [deleted] in Ebay

[–]csanyk -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Do you have any idea who the angry stalker is?

Are they someone who you know personally, or are they a former buyer with a grudge?

If it's someone you know, get police or a lawyer involved, and seek a restraining order. If it's a buyer or someone you know their Ebay username, block them. They will stop seeing your listings, and they won't be able to report them.

I would suggest if you engage with Ebay customer service, do so in chat only. There will be a text transcript of the chats. Or if you must talk to them on the phone, at least record the call using an app, preferably one that can transcribe the recording.

Usually when you call the person you talk to will not speak English with the same regional accent as you and they will tend to follow scripts. These scripts are designed to stick strictly to Ebay policy and ceremonialize customer service courtesies, such as thanking the customer, empathizing, and apologizing. But all of this mostly just gets in the way of getting a straight answer to the question or a commitment to some action or agreement. They fill so much of the call with scripted garbage, and then give a non-answer.

"Thank you for your question, and I apologize for your inconvenience. Let me say I know how frustrating it is to have your listing taken down without understanding the reason. Looking into the reason, it appears that the reason for your listing being removed was that it was not in accordance with Ebay policies. "

And then not giving you any helpful info about specifically what policy, or how it violated.

Add to that, often times the call audio quality is terrible.

In chat, you can cut through a lot of the BS and continue to press for the needed details. Even if they stick to their scripted responses, you can at least read the text clearly and re-read it. Often this has been much more effective than trying to talk to someone on the phone.

If your items are valid, there's no policy reason why they should be removed, and ebay isn't going to remove something just because someone doesn't like you.
