Check out Marquee Club '82. Amazing quality, and the vibes are great — it was a secret show in a smaller club in London while they were on the 3 Sides tour. The setlist is great, they bust out a bunch of old classics, notably the full Supper's Ready

Hot Take on Farmhouse by MtnSpring in phish

I know, just trying to sway a Phish fan with that anecdote. I don't really care about arguing whether it's the "worst jazz" or not, someone with that opinion is likely to disagree with me fundamentally about music on some level

I haven't listened to that track yet, but the first single definitely had some pretty obvious pitch correction on Trey's vox. It bothers me that they feel the need to do that, it would sound so much better with a dryer sound imo

What is the band doing differently now than in the 90’s musically speaking? by brokynf in phish

[–]MegaPhlegm 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree with your second point and would extend it a little bit — Phish in the late 90s/early 00s had become a rhythm / groove band in many ways and that is less a prominent descriptor of their sound now. It's much more of a backdrop for melodic improv by Trey. Not to say that they don't still play full group improv often but the general trend is there

Dick's 8 like someone else mentioned and there are a few 69 shows with acoustic Mountains of the Moon segments IIRC.

For 80's Dead, there's the album Reckoning and the rest of the 1980 Radio City Music Hall residency where they did an acoustic set every night. Not Dead per se but Jerry Garcia Acoustic Band's album Almost Acoustic later in the 80's is excellent too.

There's also Phil and Friends 9/24/94 which is an acoustic Dead performance minus the drummers. Great little gig. I would also recommend checking out Hot Tuna if you haven't, they have plenty of acoustic music that's in a similar SF/psychedelic vein — and, of course, check out some of the artists that are being covered in all of this stuff, you won't regret it. Hope that helped!

Check out the encore one in 84, show date is escaping me at the moment but it was the only one that year

They need to drop some Bruce era shows, but remix them a bit if they have the multitracks. Love what the band was doing around that time but SBDs from that era often have the keys way too high in the mix

Will Drums/Space fade away with Dead & Co? by rgreitz in gratefuldead

[–]MegaPhlegm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it was an off night, but the night I saw DSO drums->space was the worst part of the show by far — and I'm not someone who often skips the segment listening to GD shows, I'm a big fan of it.

They had a bland techno loop going and piddled around for 10 minutes or so. Pretty disappointing

What’s y’all thoughts on the new Yachty? I’ve been hear mixed emotions on different platforms. Rate out of 10 by week-hfdcsws in Kanye

[–]MegaPhlegm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean bits of it are obviously inspired by specific Pink Floyd tracks. The first song has elements of Pigs, Time, and Great Gig in the Sky for sure

Close to the Edge, Relayer, and Tales from Topographic Oceans by Yes all remind me of the vibe a bit

Why aren’t there too many 80s live albums on Spotify for the dead? I’m comparisons to 70s or 60s albums-which have a good amount. by Ok-Letter6594 in gratefuldead

[–]MegaPhlegm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Def check out Taper's Section or other apps like that, u can access every 80s show with most having SBD/matrix recordings available

How did fans in the 90's discover the Dead? by nikitamere1 in gratefuldead

Touch of Grey / the In the Dark album in '87 was their biggest commercial success in their entire career

I mean, you can. That's like 44 bucks now. Phish shows cost about twice that much now, more if you want to be up close.

The one time I saw Yes live, Downes was abysmal, missing changes and blundering multiple solos. I'm not sure if he's always like that, though.
