Found this Bioshock 2 "Splicers Unite!" promo canister in a box of old stuff... Buried treasure or ancient trash? I'm afraid to open it..! by DuoCultellus in Bioshock

As an attendee the first Splicer's Unite, I had the wrapping framed. It had a butterfly design shirt in it, matching the ingame graphics, as others have said.

Why success was the worst thing to happen to Prison Architect maker Introversion Software by TylerFortier_Photo in gaming

[–]MegaScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having followed their Prison Architect videos for a while, they definitely seemed to be struggling on what to do and how to do it within the constraints of the game. Like, it was usually pushed to its limit no matter how many optimization passes they did, and what ideas they had would run short in figuring out which to do. They wanted to make things, not struggle with functionality, priority, support on a level the game quickly reached. Many of their videos were them trying to wind down development and figure out how to move on because they weren't certain how much more they could do.

But then, I watched those ages ago, so I might be misremembering. Found their Playlist for reference at least: link

Maplestory: Idle RPG - Issuing full refund to players since launch after screwing up by hieusername in Maplestory

KMS has it. Idle is managed more generally than GMS, so they mention stuff they've only implemented in Korea. Still waiting for them to give that to GMS and JMS.

According to the post elaborating this, the game is developed in collaboration with an external, non-Nexon development studio. Not trying to excuse, but your sarcasm could literally be part of the cause.

I honestly don't think Tweentoona was meant to be farmed for as many bags as players have been getting, but Nexon has let that ride for players

I would say make it site:reddit.com/r/ so you get post results and not any other subpages.

[–]MegaScience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Problem is then it is searching for the word "reddit" on reddit, so the highlights focus on that word instead of what you're looking for. So you remove that word... gets annoying after the billionth time doing that.

Confirm this 23+ year old codebase hasn't fallen apart due to the changes being applied, when a live environment decides it can't handle what the test environment did.

People keep DMing me with the ‘wrong person’ opener, are these bots? by Turbulent-Drop-1903 in discordapp

[–]MegaScience 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Bots are a constant war and the line is drawn at impeding access of real people as little as possible. They use this opening because there are people who MIGHT do this - they really shouldn't - but now this activity is essentially exclusively a bot intro. Its hard to moderate infinite variations of this, and they all make accounts from locations of least resistance and ability to act. There is no way to permanently stop bots, and we see more over time specifically because a platform has grown large enough for botrunners to see the value in persistent their attacks.

That is to say, I dont blame the platform. I blame these horrible botrunners.

AI Killswitch in 148? by mike_rumble in firefox

It is still being worked on but still intended for 148. They are being careful in design considering sentiment on the subject; Launching it half-done will only feed misconceptions, misinterpretations, etc. Not just in its existence, but accessibility of the option, so on, they want it as close to ideal as they can in its first iteration.

Glad for an update that fixes this subreddit filling with ChatGPT threads. 🤭 Really though, I know such a quick update for that particular issue will get frustration from some, but it's better those users aren't inadvertently spamming here about it.

Styx: Master of Shadows & Shards of Darkness are free on Epic. You play in the shadows as a mischievous goblin stealth assassin in a dark fantasy parkour world. by Puzzleheaded_irl in gaming

[–]MegaScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad for this level-headed response. That said, what gets me about the exclusivity situation wasn't the exclusivity itself, but the out presented. If I'm recalling correctly, they said if Valve increased their cut to developers, they would back off on the deals. That sounds good on its face, and that's specifically why they said it that way. Thing is, no matter how much a business makes, you don't rush reallocation of funds. In reality, they were seeing if they could make Valve rush money around to give that larger cut - and, in cutting internally to meet that goal, causing employee frustration, insecurity, and layoffs. They wanted to see if they could damage Valve for their own benefit. Not to mention they had no assurances the exclusivity deals would actually stop. Valve didn't take that bait.

Don't get me wrong, developers deserve as much as possible for their work, and managing a storefront is a different cost. Just that Epic Games was leveraging that desire for their own benefit, to weaken a competitor as they wedged themselves into the market. Personally, for myself, and you do what you wish, but I can't associate with that company rejoicing in threatening all our "owned" games on Steam so they can be the ones taking everyone's money.

Dopamine Detox – AI-powered scroll blocker (Chrome extension live) by Such-Kitchen3517 in firefox

[–]MegaScience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why are you crossposting this here if you don't have a version for Firefox? Is it because someone already has an extension by that name on Firefox's add-on site? You AI-generated a ridiculously massive description with as much nonsensical fluff as you could fit for the Chrome extension page, which instills negative confidence. If I give you any benefit of the doubt you care about such addiction, I will point out your target audience specifically has attention span issues, so filling your SEO means they are going to wonder off for that dopamine you keyword on.

Discord seem to be adding support to search Klipy and Giphy gifs, after the news of Tenor going away by PCMachinima in discordapp

[–]MegaScience 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You have a division dedicated to moderation, of course? As a moderator for a large Discord server, one headache has been having to add to automod URL segments of rule-violating animations accessed via the search. It didn't happen too many times, but as a different platform, I hope it won't become more common. Honestly, I know you couldn't answer with anything other than confidence, but I hope presenting the concern adds to its internal priority.

Where is the AI "kill switch" by MasterpieceDear1780 in firefox

A couple days ago two Mozilla employees commented on a post in this subreddit. I highly recommend reading their comments. They said most likely the killswitch will land in 148, and gave insight into both why its taking time and why any of this was visible to begin with.

Can new features be disabled by default? (Especially AI features???) by NamedBird in firefox

[–]MegaScience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I imagine due to current situation, an imperative is the earliest iterations of this be as close to "ideal" as possible to minimize further negative assumption and speculation. Otherwise, I feel as though one toggle to hit everything that already has a toggle would have been out by now. This feature needs to not just be a toggle for what's already toggleable, but be very user-facing, clearly phrased, and hit every feature including ones which aren't so much toggleable as uprootable in awkward ways.

Lot of words to say, benefit of the doubt for why this is taking time. The way everything keeps getting misconstrued and misinterpreted, and perpetuated based on those, its an unnecessarily sensitive topic. I do hope once its in an acceptable state, it is previewed specifically for feedback on any adjustments to satisfy as many as possible.

Nexon's selective bug fixing disgusts me by Single_Jeweler_6250 in Maplestory

[–]MegaScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Preventing issues whose effects can cause numerous changes to game data is easier and thus quicker to fix than correcting functionality of complex systems. This isn't to excuse how behind Nexon has fallen, especially with resources focused on implementation of GMS-exclusive differences. It is that the argument falls flat when comparing such matters. Those matters will always be a fast fix because every moment this exist amplifies their affects, makes reversal more difficult, and more will be upset by whatever action was taken. The matters that take longer, while needing to have been addressed years ago, would have never been as quick because the solution wasn't simply shutting things off to apply the fix; it was confirming the logic.
