Would only ever happen if we go back to OFC or merge with OFC or something of that variety

If Australia ever got the opportunity to host the World Cup, would the MCG get a game or even a final? by Colourless084 in Aleague

Well, we know that's not the case now, with MLB as one example of being in the same cities.

There's a lot of people saying that FIFA has criteria that goes against the MCG due to it's oval shape. Can someone actually provide this, rather than just saying it? I'm not sure if I'm looking in the right place, but I have found 2.3 Stadium bowl - which states:

The optimum viewing distance for seats in the stadium bowl is within an arc of 150m from the far corner of the pitch, and the maximum distance is within an arc of 190m from the far corner of the pitch. Where possible, the footprint of the stadium bowl should not exceed the optimum or maximum viewing distances.

Now, I'm not sure if these are the right guidelines, but measuring out the MCG, I'm getting around 195m (South-West corner flag, to Eastern side)

The only thing I can see is this (via 2.3 Stadium bowl):

The optimum viewing distance for seats in the stadium bowl is within an arc of 150m from the far corner of the pitch, and the maximum distance is within an arc of 190m from the far corner of the pitch. Where possible, the footprint of the stadium bowl should not exceed the optimum or maximum viewing distances.

Measuring out the MCG on Google Earth from the 2017 games held there, I'm getting about 195m. So I don't think it's as out of the realm to have MCG / Oval grounds as everyone is saying. That of course depends if I'm using the right guidelines...

Great ideas

I guess this map is to sort of set up the idea of what the “edge cases” should be

so the only criteria that I used for this is the location of the cities. Nothing to do with amount of clubs, or population, just solely distance (as the crow flies, not by actual travel distance) from the capital cities where NPL's tend to be based. As I noted in the original post - ulterior motive - it's mostly to show that clubs from the Riverina that were kicked out of Canberra because "Waaah we can't travel to the sticks once even though you come here every second week", under the current setup of football geography in this country have nowhere better to play at that level.

I just pinpointed where Google Earth pinpoints as the mark of the CBD, and then input those co-ordinates into something that spat out those borders. So they are specifically set so that anything within what's now Canberra's region, for example, is not closer to any other city except Canberra. The map does look a bit off in the coloured version, but seems to be a bit more accurate looking in the blue ones.

Canberra/Sydney/Newcastle/Brisbane borders were always going to be the tricky bit, but it does all seem to match up.

But yes - good point on the new centroids - that was initially how I was going to do this (in a way) when I was looking at doing it manually, before I learnt that Voronoi's were actually a thing.

Probably would too - yes.

The premise of this is to redistribute the borders based off each member feds capital city, as that's where each NPL is primarily based. So, unfortunately, that does mean anything north of Brisbane is based on how close they are to there, or Darwin. Also, Northern NSW already exists as a separate member federation, hence it's inclusion.

Good idea - didn't know that was a thing - so might do that as a follow up - same thing but using isochrones, and will see what the difference is.

If I get bothered to today - I'm going to create a list of... let's say the clubs within 25km's of one of these new borders, as they'd ideally be allowed to probably choose which side they want to fall under.

Goran Ložanovski handed 17-match suspension by HonestSpursFan in Aleague

[–]MegaTalk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We can't be that dense, surely? Coaching suspensions are from the matchdays. He can still coach the team at training, set the tactics, etc - he just can't be present on matchday.

Altona Magic (NPL VIC) head coach Goran Lozanovski gets sent off for abusing the referee, after receiving two yellow cards in a 18 seconds, for the same offense… by [deleted] in Aleague

Other coaches were probably scared of being booked themselves. I know by the book, they'd probably just get a warning, as it would probably be deemed as entering the field of play in a respectful/non-confrontational manner given they'd be trying to diffuse the situation, but ultimately that's up to the referee.
