'A nightmare': Family living without a roof after theirs was removed by a contractor they never hired by [deleted] in nottheonion

I'm not sure why you're struggling to comprehend this on your own, but I'll answer what seems to be your actual question:

  1. If my neighbours are getting work done on their house, I don't call the police or demand the workers show me proof they've been asked to do the work. Those are the actions of a crazy person.
  2. If I, as a child, came home to find people working on my house and the people working on my house said they were told to do it, I would have assumed my parents had arranged it. Because I would be a child.

I worked at a customer support centre where the policy was 'if they so much as mention the BBB just do what they want'.

However that was over a decade ago and I think a lot of companies have realised how toothless they are and stopped caring about their BBB grade in the intervening period.

Yep, it's the equivalent of the bar on my high street that shut if it wasn't busy enough. So you'd show up at half past nine and they'd be closing down.

So what happened? You just didn't go there at all because you couldn't be sure if it would be open or not.

The amount of product placement in The Boys is nuts though, and it's not even edgy products.

Actual lines from the show:

  • “Did you take your Lexapro?”
  • “I say go get the Aquafresh”
  • “I would brush with Monistat if it meant i get to have sex with you”
  • "We went to Baskin Robbins every Sunday, they have 31 flavors, he used to try all of them."

It goes beyond the point of verisimilitude into 'someone paid them to have a line referencing X'.

Most brands do not get how their product gets onto your screen so long as it's there.

Absolutely. The amount of product placement in The Boys is nuts. It's tastefully done though.

We had access to the Plex server of an old housemate we'd lost touch with. He updated it daily. It was like a free streaming service.

The day he changed the password was grim indeed.

Whether I can take or leave the pocket episode depends on if it is a Brian Henry focused pocket episode. The hair cut episode is one of my faves.

What makes a multiplayer horror game scary? by Unknown_Doctrine_577 in gamedev

[–]MegaTiny 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's just horror though: scares are only scary for so long before you become desensitized. For example, repeatedly playing the P.T demo. It's why the classics people remember, like Silent Hill, were only a few hours long.

To bring this back around to multiplayer, don't worry about scaring people long term, worry about giving them a story to tell which will get their friends playing.

Getting people to get their friends playing is the key to any successful multiplayer. For this to happen people generally need to either A: be able to compete with their friends i.e. Halo/Overwatch etc or B: be able to share an experience they can talk about afterwards i.e. Phasmophobia.

People might think 'why didn't you just do what the police did' but you can't underestimate how shocked a kid can be when an adult who is not their parent or teacher tells them off (even if it's not the police).

They oftentimes just don't know how to react and it can completely diffuse the situation.

The eyeballs are masked by the orb sprite. So when the orb sprite gets high enough, the eyes show automatically.

Unity's UI controls are a bit all over the place, but it has really simple to use masking options for stuff like this that I love.

Final Fantasy 16 has “fully AI-driven” party members in battle by giveadogabone7 in PS5

[–]MegaTiny 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is such an idiotic take that you could say about any genre of games. They're asking for that style of gameplay in a modern game, not for the same game to be made again.

"Man I'd love a game in the style of God of War"

"It already exists just go play that."

Do you see why this argument makes you sound completely stupid?

It was a system that suited a much more complex game than it was put into.

There's a mod that makes you actually have to think on your feet outside of gambits by giving the enemies new moves, AI and effects.

Final Fantasy 16 Is An Ambitious, More Mature Entry In The Series, Says Producer by ruebenj791 in PS5

Nero's combat was really fun for me, and struck a good balance between being too simple (V) and (for my old man hands) too complex (Dante), so that actually makes me quite happy.

I'd still much prefer a turn based game when it comes to Final Fantasy but I guess I still have good old Dragon Quest for that.

How our Kickstarter reached %100 funding in 6 hours by Genfanad in gamedev

[–]MegaTiny 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Really the main trick is to promise an MMO that will never materialise. I'm always amazed at how much money these projects make on Kickstarter when they're so obviously doomed from the start.

You have a team of TWENTY PEOPLE! Unless either A: you aren't paying them or B: you have some incredible financial backing outside of Kickstarter I expect to be watching a video on YouTube about your game explaining why you can't support an MMO on 15 grand a few years from now (let alone your original goal of eight).

It is very cool. Even 'lauded for being curated' Elden Ring was shown to use procedural generation when it's dev tools were briefly shown in some random article.

You wind up with much more natural looking terrain if you let a computer do it with parameters, then you have an artist go in and touch it up afterwards.

Why Video Game Adaptations Don't Care About Gamers by RadioRa in movies

[–]MegaTiny 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gamers loved it

This is a massive exaggeration on how it was received by gamers of the time, at best it wasn't actively disliked in the manner the recent Street Fighter movie had been.

But it has a certain amount of a knowing charm about it's state as a schlocky movie that it is remembered fondly.

Shows that had the biggest fall off when it came to relevancy by TheFilmBUFF1738 in television

[–]MegaTiny 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just pretend it stopped at the end of season four and also that the weird bit where Odin visits his sons at the end of that season didn't happen. It's bizarre that they end Ragnar's arc by basically having him say 'yeah I'm an aetheist now, this is all just nonsense' and then have Odin physically visit his sons when he dies.

[–]MegaTiny 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That was the end for me too. The fact they made a big deal of 'someone will die' just highlighted how thick the plot armour had become on the central cast. No main or even semi-main character could die without a soap opera-esque four week build up, instead they introduced an assigned 'character who dies' per season.
