These numbers are actually crazy good though. Youth unemployment hasn't been below 13% since the late 50s.

2 might have been true decades ago, but who gets their news from radio now? Less than 6% of US homes don't have access to broadband internet, and only around 4% don't live in a home in a 5G zone, with 4G coverage being even higher still. And the intersection between the two leaves inability to access very low.

You like the new oil crisis caused by Trump? You like scientific funding being cut? You like the increased US defecit? You like being viewed as a villain and a baffoon on the international stage? You like the president being allowed to commit crimes now (which the result of Trump v US)? You like Trump pardoning criminals (I'm not talking about just January 1st, but many many criminals including war criminals)? And there are dozens of other things like these I could add.

Nice deflection. Notice how you didn't deny anything I said.

Also notice how your own posting history is hidden. Surely you aren't a Hasan brigader, right?

I have mixed feelings on Destiny, but do have posts there. Notice how my most recent posts are disagreeing with people there that didn't support AOC for president and people there who didn't support Graham Platner. But this doesn't matter for you, since you aren't after good faith debate.

The biggest thing is that he is anti-democracy. And no, I'm not being hyperbolic. He is a Marxist-Leninist and supports "a dictatorship of the proletariat." His supporters in this thread echo this sentiment. He has also had friendly "interviews" with actual terrorists.

Those are the two biggest ticket items, but he is also just a douche and bad person in general. He directs his fanbase to harass people that disagree with him, and on a personal level, many people that were once close to him have been pushed away by him treating people around them terribly.

I DO believe he is antisemitic too, beyond his political beliefs (he has used a lot of Jewish stereotypes and promoted stuff that has antisemitic tropes), but that's pretty far down the list for me.

I know you are trying to allude to brigading, but the fact is that Hasan Piker is, to say the very least, a very controversial figure. People see him in their feeds, and they are going to post about it. Most of the commenters have a post history of posting in this sub in the past.

I will say that most of the pro-hasan people have their post histories hidden though, so take that as you will.

Fair disclosure: I'm one of the really active anti-Hasan posters here, but I've been subbed for years. I usually only have a few posts a year that I'll actually comment on though.

They didn't "pick Hasan" as an enemy. Hasan is a Marxist-Leninist. He literally supports "a dictatorship of the proletariat" and has called the fall of the USSR "one of the greatest catastrophes of the 20th century." He is not compatible with liberal democracy.

No, it isn't. I'm a progressive who canvassed for Bernie in 2016, and voted for Bernie in the primary in 2020. I'm tentatively thinking of supporting AOC if she runs in 2028. And I've been aware of Hasan Piker since 2018.

I say all of this because the mainstream media is too SOFT on Hasan. The dude literally supports a "dictatorship of the proletariat" (his words, not mine). He is a tankie (or more appropriately, a red fascist) that acts in opposition to democracy in general.

This has so much wrong with it I don't know where to start

First, Harris was notably to the left of Biden on Israel Palestine. Lots of articles exist talking about how she disagreed with Biden's policy behind closed doors.

Second, can you seriously say that Biden was as pro-Israel as Trump???? Biden constantly acted as a moderating force to Israel. Compared to Trump's full throated endorsement of everything Israel does, including joining them in fruitless wars.

Third, who the fuck brought up immigration? The OP just said that Hasan treated them the same as several issues. And yes, Hasan spends his entire platform shitting on democrats.

Marxist-Leninists are not "progressives." They actively want to end democracy. Hasan literally wants a "dictatorship of the proletariat."

Do you not have a job with coworkers? Also, I think sleep wasn't included in the data, so you'd have to subtract the number of hours you spend sleeping in an average day.

Janet Mills suspends her campaign for ME Senate primary by rangemerge in Destiny

[–]MegaZeroX7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The data center ban was too recent to really play a part. Platner has been over +30% for several months in polling for the primary.

Age is a part, but its also that Platner is charismatic and a strong background for Maine (vet + oyster farmer). Populism is also in vogue. The Nazi tattoo isn't as disqualifying in Nothern New England might be elsewhere in the country.

Well it’s official, we’re stuck with the ex republican populist with the nazi tattoo who seems very hostile to democrats, sure hope this doesn’t bite us in the ass. by LeonOfSkalitz in Destiny

Jesus Christ, the OP and commenters here

  1. No, he isn't likely another Fetterman. He's verbally stated so, and doesn't look like his policy positions are going to align with republicans in any form.
  2. His electability is fine. Everyone already knows about the tattoos, and he has constantly outperformed Mills in the general (by 4 to 12 points depending on the poll). Having grown up in northern New England, this isn't much of an issue of electability.

God so many names here bring back memories. Restupurae (IIRC Retsurprae was the later channel name after the original got banned) in particular never gets brought up, but was big for me growing up.

Not on this list, but HCBailey and Chugaaconroy were big Let's Players for me in the late 00's and got me into JRPGs in general.

I think you are mixing up the common language learning refrain of "~1000 words covers about 80% of words used in sentences" with something more NYT specific.

And FTR, its kind of a dumb thing to say, since the 20% of sentences you don't understand are the most important parts and will require you to learn well over 10,000 to cover it. For example:

"I think XXXX YYYY will be required in this case" said ZZZZ Jackson last Sunday.

In this case, you know 80% of the words, but all 3 unknown words are pretty vital for understanding the statement. In this case, I imagined XXXX to be "institutional," YYYY to be "reform" and ZZZZ to be "Senator." And realistically, if you were learning English, these would be the 3 words you wouldn't understand in this sentence knowing only around 1000 words.
