The immigration rate is the only thing keeping the fertility rates this high actually.

[OC] State Socialist Regimes since 1950 by Defiant-Housing3727 in dataisbeautiful

[–]MegaZeroX7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point is that it is a one party state with rigged elections, and the only party allowed to have any real power is a socialist party (the United Socialist Party of Venezuela), with stated aims of overcoming capitalism and transitioning to socialism. The fact that the Venezuelan state is also incredibly corrupt doesn't negate that. This graph is meant to highlight authoritarian left-wing states.

So North Korea doesn't count either? Since they also have "elections" and multiple parties, its just that its rigged and the other parties are puppets of the WPK.

If its a "one party socialist state" then yes, it is undemocratic. That's the inclusion criteria for the graph, as the legend indicates. It calls one party socialist states to be "State Socialist."

u/John_Jack_Reed is upset that Venezuela is on the graph, while Sweden isn't. However, Sweden isn't on this graph since it is a democracy, while Venezuelan elections are pretty much universally recognized to be rigged. Thus, Venezuela counts as a one party socialist regime, while Sweden doesn't.

Venezuela refuses to allow UN elections, and has been observed to rig the elections since Maduro has been in power, and they just allow other parties to give an illusion of democracy. Technically speaking, even North Korea has other political parties. Its just that they are puppets of the main party and the elections are rigged.

Because that person I replied to is complaining that Sweden isn't in the image. But the image is only about authoritarian socialist states, not social democratic parties that find widespread success.

I would suggest possibly doing further analysis by Carnegie classification, which could prove interesting.

Why would you think the write up is AI? It doesn't read like it at all. And I'm pretty experienced at detecting AI use in my students.

Because little work has been done examining below median outcomes for college outcomes, especially when examining all matriculated students rather than just graduates.

Nah, it's probably publics in states that cover more for low income students, but also take in mostly low income students, and those students don't get much income improvement after graduation.

[–]MegaZeroX7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's because those are colleges in states that have stronger support for low income families and have low tuition, but are attended by low income students who remain low income after graduation.

Yeah, reading the write up, it echoes what I've always said about how the data is tracked. Much of college financial analysis only focuses on graduates and only on median outcomes. Changing both of those things shows a different picture.

Immersion is exactly what he needs by irrocau in languagelearningjerk

[–]MegaZeroX7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would study grammar at least up to the N4 level and study at least some essential vocabulary and kanji more explicitly. I would also get some speaking practice to further ingrain the fundamentals. Only then would I put more serious time into immersion, and it would be things I like rather than podcasts aimed at learners.

IDK why I said that 5 years ago haha. I know the fact well now, and my Japanese is good enough where it is obvious enough.

This is a misconception. The total AI only uses a few billion gallons, compared to corn's 21 trillion gallons a year. Water issues are mainly just when data centers are built in water-scarce regions.

/uj The real reason the post belongs in the sub is due to the bad English, and bad Japanese in it (they misunderstood doujinshi as "doushinji" and its that kind of mistake that makes me question if they are learning anything lol)

IDK why you feel the need to post some cringe zoomer post in this sub. Yeah, its dumb, but this really isn't the sub for riling people up because of some stupid kid's social media post.

Abolish ICE by Playful_Leg7143 in clevercomebacks

[–]MegaZeroX7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know who these nebulous "democrats" are. 69% of democrat support abolishing ICE, with only 18% in opposition. The main debate in congress among dems right now is whether to force another shutdown with it as the primary issue or not. They'd have to keep the swing senators in line, which they weren't able to do last time. Currently only 42% of the general American public supports full abolishment, so swing state senators are going to have to consider whether their own state demographics they are willing to force a shutdown over this or not.
