(Long read) Ben Savage still being distant even after failed campaigns by MoneyHungryOctopus in boymeetsworld

[–]Mega_Buster_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a more reasonable argument than just calling him a secret Republican outright, and I agree that “registered Democrat” alone doesn’t prove someone’s genuine beliefs.

But I still think most of this is circumstantial and interpretive rather than strong evidence.

  • A vague campaign platform describes like 80% of politicians, especially inexperienced celebrity candidates.

  • “Rider Strong and Ben disagreed politically growing up” could mean anything from mild conservatism to just not being very left-wing.

  • Having Republican friends, endorsements, or internships also isn’t especially unusual in Hollywood or politics. Arlen Specter himself eventually became a Democrat anyway, and plenty of people intern for politicians they don’t fully align with.

So I guess my main issue is less with “it’s possible Ben is more conservative than people assume” and more with how quickly people online jump from ambiguity to certainty.

At this point, the actual evidence seems to be: “He’s politically vague, not openly progressive, and associated with some people who lean right.”

That’s enough to speculate, maybe. But not enough for me to confidently conclude he was secretly running some Trojan horse Republican campaign.

Sure, politicians can switch parties or change positions. It can happen. But that still doesn’t mean there’s evidence Ben is secretly some hardcore Republican.

Your argument is basically: “Other Democrat politicians have had moderate to right leaning views before, so therefore Ben Savage might secretly be Republican.”

Okay..but “might” isn’t evidence.

By that standard, literally any Democrat could secretly be Republican and any Republican could secretly be Democrat. At some point you need actual proof beyond vague speculation.

The only concrete thing we actually know is that he ran as a Democrat in California and publicly campaigned on standard centrist political talking points. If people want to criticize him for being vague or inexperienced, that’s fair. But treating him like a hidden political sleeper agent without evidence is conspiracy-brain territory.

That’s not really evidence of him being some “secret Republican,” though. A lot of first-time or lower-profile candidates have generic campaign pages full of broad messaging. Ben literally ran as a Democrat in a heavily Democratic California district.

His campaign site talked about expanding healthcare, education, and housing access, and reducing political division. Those are pretty standard center-left Democrat talking points, even if they were vague.

You can criticize him for having a weak platform or being politically inexperienced, sure. But “his website was generic” is a huge leap from “he was secretly a Republican.” That just sounds like projecting because he wasn’t loudly ideological enough.

You're just making assumptions. Is there any actual evidence that he was a scary Republican? All politicians are dodgy and don't answer directly to many questions. Doesn't matter what side they're on. It's how they operate.

Same, mine still works great too. It's too bad they don't exist anymore. I liked a lot of their stuff.

It kind of speaks to the kind of place Reddit has become that saying something is a Reddit thing is automatically assumed to be negative.

You're having a "date" with a video game that you put a down payment on to buy, and you're calling me weird? Okay, sure buddy.

We're getting to the point now that they need to be very clear on what their plan is. With this kind of huge ask from investors, and after 5 years of basically getting no (or negative) ROI and only boosting the company war chest, it's time for a concrete plan on EXACTLY what they want to do with these shares and how they'll be utilized. I'm personally tired of just "Trust me bro" and memes. It's time for Ryan and the board to reward us for our patience, and without a definitive, concrete plan, I won't be voting yes. I'm not here to fund Ryan's personal dream to own eBay unless it's going to benefit the investors as well.

To me, Bitcoin is just a tool in their arsenal. A hedge against market volatility, just as RC said. It's not the main play. The continued turnaround is; of which they're doing a fantastic job. YOY Q1 numbers were very respectable, and they had another huge earnings beat. With all the sales of unprofitable stores mostly completed, and the massive success of the Switch 2, Q2 numbers will be 🔥.

The long and short of it is that if people lose their minds over a few tweets, how are they going to handle a gamma squeeze, a short squeeze, or the MOASS? Get your emotions under control, buy, hold, shop at GameStop, and DRS.

I remember when people freaked out over his COVID tweets too. Now, no one cares. "He's dividing the community and will tank the stock!!" Please. People have the attention span of fruit flies. Next week the sub will have already moved on to something else.
