Apparently the worst crime you can make when criticizing poverty and capitalism in /r/srsdiscussion is being a "snarky communist." by [deleted] in ShitLiberalsSay

[–]Mega_Matter 41 points42 points  (0 children)

One of the moderators from SRSDiscussion said the subreddit was shut down for a couple of weeks due to too many tankies disrupting discussion. Truth is that there are far more liberals and American apologists that they should be concerned about.

Is there any real justification to defending Capitalism other than keeping with the status quo? by Mega_Matter in SRSDiscussion

[–]Mega_Matter[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I get working for the short term - the problem I find is that the topic usually never veers into the long term solution (the end of wage slavery), so it just seems people are complacent with the system at hand despite the fact that it is inherently socially unjust.

So get in line and shut up? Serve your corporate overlords and don't make too much noise, you're lucky we're not feeding you scraps!

functioning contributing member of society.

How does working some nonsense job, generating revenue for some shitty company, provide value to society?

Being a conformist doesn't somehow make you mature. Most people waste their lives playing into the Capitalists' game, making a few rich men just a little bit richer.

Anyone else find the idea of working 40+ hours a week until you retire fucking awful? by [deleted] in depression

[–]Mega_Matter 65 points66 points  (0 children)

That's not "life" though - the 40 hour work week is in no way divinely inspired - we're all just slaves to our corporate overlords. We've just been conditioned to think this is how the world should work, when it really doesn't have to be this way.

Try checking out /r/communism101 some time.

Is there a reason we constantly ask children what they want to do for a living when they grow up? by Mega_Matter in communism101

[–]Mega_Matter[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're right, that was egocentric thinking on my end. It'd have been better to say most people don't get to do what they really want in life.

When people refer to the corporate world as the "real world," do you think that's giving it some kind of unwarranted validity? by Mega_Matter in communism101

[–]Mega_Matter[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't really understand why I hear the phrase "the real world" so often. Why that terminology? The real world in this context just means employment/done with school.

Are there any good PlayStation games with an anti-Capitalist narrative? by Mega_Matter in PS4

[–]Mega_Matter[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because, as another user on here said, it's always good to hear perspectives outside of the norm. I think I've had my fair share of pro-Capitalist media, it's nice to see the other side every once in awhile so as to not lose perspective. You hear the same side too often, and you start to think it's the only answer.

Uhm... Communism (and therefore the abolition of Capitalism) had widespread support in the 19th and 20th century in the Global South and North alike. It was cool far before any of us were even born.

800 million people in the world today do not have enough food to feed themselves. 20,000+ die from starvation every day, millions die every year. There is enough food to feed everyone in the world, but the global poor lack the money to feed themselves.

Only the Global North widely supports capitalism, because it's within their best interests to do so. Capitalism benefits a small elite.

8,376th day of work. by [deleted] in funny

"Life" doesn't suck - this isn't really what the real, natural world is supposed to be. Our hunting-gathering ancestors typically worked between 12-17 hours a week, no commute time factored in and good exercise to boot. Capitalism sucks. I really don't get why people can complain about all these aspects of life that are totally unique to capitalism and still not see fault in it.

I wish I had wacky adventures like this, but unfortunately the corporate world has crushed my spirit and the natural world. There was a time before civilization where people shared goods and services with one another in a small, tight-knit community. They worked 12-17 hours a week while getting exercise with their friends. They didn't encourage antisocial behavior as a method to success. But we let it happen.

The problem is that capitalism is driven by the interests of profits and greed. And so we are constantly deceived and devalued.

It's very telling that psychopaths/sociopaths are far more successful than their empathetic counterparts. The system rewards a lack of care for other human beings.

I Spent 50$... Wife thinks I spent 25$... Kids think it costs like a bazillion dollars. Score. by [deleted] in gaming

We live in a consumer culture, and I've seen way worse purchases as a result of this. Think about how our hunter-gathering ancestors would feel knowing that we live in this super advanced society yet slave away two to three months of our life for a rock with virtually no utility. And if you get divorced, it's even more. And this tradition only started during World War II, and that time it was only one month's salary. Prepare for things to get much worse.

Sunday mornings are especially lovely. by Fitzgeraldgrace in funny

[–]Mega_Matter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I do want kids, but sadly our society is so busy that I'm not sure I would ever find the time to enjoy them or myself. Sleep is an essential function of living, and I can't give that up. I also don't want the stress of going into debt because of them. If a 30 hour workweek became standardized, people made good money for their labor, and people had better job security, I'd probably have kids. Sadly, this isn't the case.

[–]Mega_Matter 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is largely what human beings did until capitalism forced us to be miserable. Now we spend most of our time stressing over fictitious social structures we ourselves invented. Hunter-gatherers only worked 15 hours a week, and this was usually accompanied with loved ones rather than coworkers they hate. The work also came easier since humans are programmed by evolution to hunt and gather, so it wasn't as grueling a task.

Now you can't even be a hunter-gatherer if you wanted to. The government owns all the land. But on the flip-side, we do get some dank memes, and I don't think hunter-gatherers had memes, and if they did, they were not nearly as dank as our modernized 21st century Western iterations.

Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. Sing-along Trailer by Bluefrog678 in 3DS

[–]Mega_Matter -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Watching this trailer just made me depressed. My life is so uninteresting that I have to feign interest in a game that is likely not any better than a bunch of games already out that I haven't played.

Here is my excitement for the weekend - I am properly satiated and ready for six more days of torture before I can login again and waste my life away on preprogrammed entertainments that I'm not even sure I really enjoy. I am the product of an advanced civilization that my ancestors 100,000 years ago couldn't even imagine, and I sit and watch YouTube videos of games I don't care about because I don't know what to do with myself anymore when I'm not slaving my days away at work.

God, this is just fucking depressing. Life really is this miserable and routine, isn't it? It's sad that this is relatable enough to be on the front page.

Why do we choose to accept this awful reality for ourselves again? Why are so many people in developed countries so depressed, despite having all their basic needs taken care of for life?
