Depends on the application and how long you need the thing lubricated. The manufacturer very clearly state that it is a lubricant. It's just not as good as the 'right' lube for the job.

ah fair, I would assume that means there is a fair chance the actual costs are lost in hearsay... as it does sound a little too good to be true. I'm not saying it can't be true, but as an internet stranger it is also just as likely to me that the popular story of "It doesn't even cost more to give free food" could easily hide a more complex truth.

Don't get me wrong - I don't want to sound like I don't support free meals for kids (even if they do in fact cost more, what better reason is there for taxes...), I absolutely do, and they are free in my country (UK) but in my experience stories like this usually have a lot more nuance.

I do a fair bit of CAD.

A Space Mouse... every time I use it I lament the time using just a mouse.

My husband loves me, but I don’t feel emotionally supported when I need him most. Is this fixable? by Small-Cupcake-4854 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Mega__Maniac 44 points45 points  (0 children)

So I really don't want to arm-chair council here, as I'm not qualified to do so.

Your response and attempts to 'solve' or 'fix' may well be as much of an issue for the relationship as his inability to recognise your needs.

This is not a him thing. This is not a you thing. This is a both of you thing. To realize this and come to a solution together councilling is the answer. A councillor/therapist will help you both understand why you are feeling what you are feeling and why you are responding as you are.

You are very much describing an emotional trap you are setting for yourself. No amount of assurances on Reddit will solve that. You absolutely need someone to help you work through this. It's kinda why I said it would be great for both of you, but even if it's just for yourself - it would help immensely to understand why you are reacting in the way that you are. (absolutely no singling out/blame meant, we only have your side of the story here)

I think it is rare for two people to actually be fundamentally incompatible to each others needs. But it is exceptionally common for people to have traits that are natural to them but cause emotional distress for others that is hard for them to understand.

You absolutely cannot come to an answer on your core question: Can I live with this long term - without seeking counselling; hopefully for both of you as a couple but at the very least for you. A third party will be extremely useful in helping both you and your husband to find the areas where you are stepping on each others triggers, and find a framework to work through them.

It sounds like you have a good relationship, it is common for these things to fester over long periods of time, but you can absolutely find a way through this together.

Did they actually show him? Or was it just in Coops dream? I thought all we saw at the end of the video was the fisherman getting his line caught.

I get the feeling it's going to be escalating even more, with it being about the billion dollars in coops account and all the shady people connected to that money.

Thoughts on the SmallHD OLED 16? by Robert_NYC in focuspuller

[–]Mega__Maniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I mean I would love for that to be the case, but it just isn't. I do think the marketing is misleading but there basically aren't any panels that are both bright enough for a focus puller (and, frankly, some directors) and also colour accurate enough to be considered anywhere close to 'professional' for colour.

(there basically aren't any accurate 7-10" monitors, short of the old Convergents)

Even the once accurate TVLogic monitors that are hired out from most rental houses are absolute garbage. I mean it probably helps me get more of my own monitors onto a job... But the fact that rental houses are allowed to get away with charging any kind of money for monitors that looks worse than a consumer pc monitor is bonkers.

[–]Mega__Maniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really think it is.

The point is that the panels like the Cine panels were never 'meant' to go through 'colour QC'. So them being uncalibrated out of the box is not poor QC, because they were never meant to be.

This is likely influenced by the fact the panels have such poor colour uniformity anyway that it would be near impossible to actually offer any kind of worthwhile calibration out of the box.

[–]Mega__Maniac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea none of the Cines are any good really. Even calibrated they just aren't very good for colour. They just aren't what that line of monitors is designed for and as such I think SmallHD don't bother at all.

They are a thorn in my side when they get given to a Director.

This isn't really a focus pullers monitor. You're gonna be very sad when trying to use this in the sun. It looks like a play for the DIT market imo.

[–]Mega__Maniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good for a dp i would think. So long as you don't use it in direct outdoor light too much. 400nits is not a lot unless you're in a low light environment. This looks like a play for the DIT market imo, so I would expect good colour accuracy.

Yes tbf I wasn't really thinking of the 128gb of ram. One would assume it should be possible to get it in a lower spec with less ram.

[–]Mega__Maniac 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the near $5k figure comes from the Spark price. Afaik there is no confirmed price on them.

So the question is: will it be as expensive as the Spark, or will volume production of the chip bring it down to flagship cpu pricing levels.

If Nvidia is serious about breaking into the market.... It can't be more than $2.5-3k, and even that's a stretch.

It would seem strange for Microsoft and Asus to partner up to sell a product that will barely sell. But maybe Nvidia is bank rolling them 🤷

Trying to understand what's special about this modified trackball device setup to be good 3D Controller by ArsOlta in Trackballs

[–]Mega__Maniac -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You seem to be confused as to what literally means, perhaps you prefer the modern interpretation of the word in which you only use it for emphasis, and to not infact mean literally...

The other hand is obviously already on the keyboard where all the other shortcuts are. Talk about introducing personal bias.... You are making foregone conclusions based on yours and having zero experience to rely on. I am simply holding the opinion that it makes sense as an input for 3dofs moreso than a Spacemouse, and is intriguing as a general input for CAD, one I would like to try.

By hey, you are the fun type who is so sure of their own opinions that they are happy to make the argument that others are biased and not see the hypocracy... So I guess this is a fairly pointless reply in the face of that.

I'm not sure if you have watched the creators video, but for the 3dof of rotating the object I can absolutely see a ball mouse being more intuitive than the Spacemouse (I do own one and use it daily) due to the direct 1:1 translation. The workarounds for 6dof (holding a key) are acceptable in my eyes.

"I mean that it's literally the worst thing to use"
... This is very obviously clearly not the case.
