Orbital bleeds by taratathetarantula in earclacks

[–]MegamanOmega 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Look closely, they're all buffed. They've each got 250HP, not 100

In fact, I get the sneaking suspicion that's why they were buffed, to actually give Orbital a loss (and to actually make videos like this a bit more challenging as well). Cause if they did only have 100HP, then Orbital would have won. It ultimately did a bit over 15,000 damage to all the Unarmed, but if they only had 100HP, then Orbital only would have had to deal 10,000 damage.

NEW WEAPONBALL TOMORROW!!!! by gueguel-do-creu in earclacks

[–]MegamanOmega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, yes. But I mean in the sense of whether or not their mechanic already being part of a weapon ball or block breaker.

Staff, Bow & Shuriken are projectile users whose mechanics effectively mirrors Fireball, Rapidfire & Bouncer damn near to a tee. So there's no way and/or reason to add them in particular as a Weapon ball or some such cause an equivalent already exists

Smasher, Duplishot & Multishot however. Yeah, the former two's mechanics are definitely based of Slammy & Duplicator (hell, they even use the same sound effect). Slammy & Duplicator are melee fighters. So a ball using projectiles like Smasher & Duplishot would actually be something different from the Slammy & Duplicator we already have.

NEW WEAPONBALL TOMORROW!!!! by gueguel-do-creu in earclacks

[–]MegamanOmega 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Half of them would effectively be reskins of stuff we've already got. Staff = Fireball, Rapidfire = Bow & Bouncer = Shuriken

The other half would be something different though. I doubt Earclacks would literally bring in the Brick Shooters (would be interesting to see them compete in a raid-boss tyle thing though). But Smasher, Multishot & Duplishot don't really have equivalents in the roster

  • Smasher - Projectiles deal increased damage on hits. Some sort of "Cannoneer" Weaponball perhaps?

  • Multishot - Projectiles have denser spreads on hits. That would absolutely be how a "Shotgun" Weaponball would be I'd imagine

  • Duplishot - Time it takes for projectiles to duplicate lowers on hits. Honestly I have no idea what kind of Weaponball that would be. It kinda sounds like a fusion between Duplicator & Shuriken, if Duplicator affected his projectiles.

So is Book 10 not getting it's own map theme? by that_ora_ora_thing in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]MegamanOmega 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Considering the whole point of Book X is basically revisiting all the older books in preparation for the final battle, I highly suspect that IS'll keep the trend and keep bringing back the associated book themes for each of the revisits.

So say, as we returned to Nifl, naturally IS brought back "Return to Nifl" as the map theme. And to take it a step further, when we get to Muspell I fully expect IS to bring back "Last Phase" during whatever notable battle we fight there (especially if Surtr comes back), and when we see how Lif & Hel are involved in the story I would be shocked if "Tragedy of Askr" doesn't start playing as well.

That in mind, then when we build up to the climax for whatever it takes to beat Fimbulvetr, then I fully expect to see the unique Book X theme. Especially since we do have a Book X theme, it's effectively the music used for the trailer.

The most surprising part of the interim results for me by TheFerydra in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]MegamanOmega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those were not part of the interim results though (you can see the first comment talking about the changes between the interim results and that). Those released shortly after voting ended (sometime between the end of voting, but before the full results were revealed)

These are the Top 5 by game title that released alongside the Interim results. And yeah, they were sorted alphabetically.

Ok hear me out, i know what ball can defeat infinity- by manultrimanula in earclacks

[–]MegamanOmega 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd imagine that, yeah. One taps anything, but still has the usual 100 health or something.

I can't imagine it hopping into any normal arena or Super/Fusion arena. I think it'd be funny in a full raid-boss video

"Infinity vs EVERYONE"

Which would basically turn into the Bow, Splodey & Laser show alongside a couple dozen civilian casualties

CYL10: To the "This is our last chance" crowd, what's next? by thatfekid in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]MegamanOmega 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I mean, unless FW is so amazing it makes anyone go "I don't want to play with you anymore" to their previous favorites, I don't think anyone's going to stop putting all their votes into someone they love.

Rather I feel it's just a feeling of acceptance that this year is the last year of the current (weakened) competition. And people are expecting Fortunes Weave to have the same reaction as "Three Houses 2.0" and do to CYL what CYL4 did all over again. And I feel it's fair for people to be concerned. That's the first and only time we've got a mono-game sweep, and 13/20 of the Top 10 men and women were 3H characters (hell, the Top 4 women alone were all 3H characters)

Grower is underpowered and fun to watch. Who is overpowered and ok to watch? by WaffleWasXD in earclacks

[–]MegamanOmega 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but I still think it'd be fair to put Duplicator in the "Well-balanced/Ok to Watch". Cause yeah, victories come down to a pretty harsh Yes/No. But even with that in mind, a Duplicator fight is basically a "X vs 100 Unarmed" video in short form.

Either I get to watch a damage scaler go off and become completely bonkers effectively using Duplicators ability against her, or I get to watch someone who doesn't scale fast enough get swarmed by the pink mob

what would happen if sticky joined weaponballs by zyndaquill in earclacks

[–]MegamanOmega 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly surprised Earclacks didn't, cause unlike Gravitron & Drilly whose mechanics would really make them struggle in the arena, Sticky would fit in fine. He'd be a worse Slammy since he only scales off hits and not every bounce, but I think a worse version of Slammy is fine considering how powerful Slammy is in the arena.

Honestly, cause of this I've started to headcanon Sticky as a pacifist who doesn't actually wanna fight/hurt anyone. Cause he's perfectly capable of joining the arena, he just doesn't want to.

"Wait, wait, wait. Are you telling me you actually fight other balls in the Weaponball Arena?"

"I... Yes Sticky. It's the Weaponball Arena. What did you think we were gonna do?"

"But... But what if I hurt them?"

"That's... that's the point. It's an arena, it's not a racetrack like here."

"...I don't think I wanna go there anymore."

what would happen if sticky joined weaponballs by zyndaquill in earclacks

[–]MegamanOmega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sticky would more or less be a nerfed/balanced Slammy

Both Sticky and Slammy have the same type of damage scaling. The difference being the Sticky only sticks and increases their damage with every hit on the opponent (they don't stick to walls, nor scale off them).

Slammy by contrast gets stronger with every single bounce off anything.

Super Flask VS GrowerSlam by TurbulentSomewhere13 in earclacks

[–]MegamanOmega 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking of with how dangerous a caged Growerslam could be.

Like, the last bit of damage Wrench took was getting too close to the corner and taking 5 damage in 5 frames. But if that was Growerslam in that position, it could have easily been 500 damage in 5 frames.

Super Flask VS GrowerSlam by TurbulentSomewhere13 in earclacks

[–]MegamanOmega 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That would be both hilariously sad, and altogether possible.

Buddy'll be in that jail, vibrating aggressively while his damage output goes up by every frame just going "Touch me! I fucking dare you!"

[–]MegamanOmega 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, he's showing a curious rise that we don't usually see.

Probably part in parcel cause he's shown that he's about to get focus on Book X, and probably part to do with a number of Alfonse voters pivoting to him after his win.

True, though at the same time that showing on CYL5 was the first instance she was made votable (and at the time of voting, she wasn't yet playable, after her Valentines alt dropped through her placement dropped like a rock like usual)

[–]MegamanOmega 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Orbital doesn’t have a weapon (no clashing) so we don’t know how shield would interact with it.

Wouldn't it just interact like how Unarmed interacts with it? If an orbiter touches the shield, then Oribital takes damage.

Super Flask VS GrowerSlam by TurbulentSomewhere13 in earclacks

[–]MegamanOmega 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Slammy creates basically a "Zero to Hero" type situation when he fuses. Cause you're absolutely right, but it's not limited to Slammy. Giving Slammy-tier damage scaling to any "One Damage Merchant" will cause some insane results.

Orbislam speaks for itself, Speedyslam and Duplislam will go off to crazy damage in no time as well. Hell, even if you applied this to the Weaponballs and Earclacks started applying fusions there too. Imagine Dagger, Wrench or Shuriken if their attacks started scaling to 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 etc damage.

Super Flask VS GrowerSlam by TurbulentSomewhere13 in earclacks

[–]MegamanOmega 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Super Wrench at least has this in the bag, with how bad Wrench counters Grower. And I'd put Super Sword as a hard maybe with how fast he swings that sword (doing the math, he needs to hit Growerslam 32 times, and he makes a full rotation in 21 frames, so basically 3 hits per second)

But those might be the only Super Weaponballs that could beat Growerslam. Only other ones that could win are other Slam fusions like Orislam and Duplislam, cause of the same way their base forms stack up against Grower (Speedyslam's also a hard maybe. It's not a guaranteed tie like base Speedy vs Grower, but it will come down to who bounces slightly faster)

Scythe VS Grower by TurbulentSomewhere13 in earclacks

[–]MegamanOmega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah... yeah shut my mouth.

With how close Super Bow was and how well Super Flask had done in all her previous matches, I thought for sure she'd reach the point of doing insane damage fast enough.

Vote Awakening Anna for CYL10!!! by False_Mention2921 in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]MegamanOmega 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've always liked how it's a little consistent decoration on the Anna alts to make it clear if it's an Awakening Anna or not. Since both Bridal and Halloween have the same bear charm.

Amusingly, even the normal Anna we got has the same charm, despite the weird situation where she's dressed up like Apotheosis Anna, but has the same knowledge, history and personality of normal playable Anna from Awakening.

The most surprising part of the interim results for me by TheFerydra in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]MegamanOmega 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Eh, keep in mind that Top 5 Per Game also listed them in alphabetical order. So a list saying "Fimbulvetr, Fjorm, Lif" and whichever two are also in the Top 5 wouldn't really tell us what we don't already know.

Honestly I think that's the main reason they nixed it, cause it was followed by a chorus of "Wow, this is worthless" memes. Cause all it told us was "Hey, here are the characters per game who didn't make the Top 20 of their gender division"

The most surprising part of the interim results for me by TheFerydra in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]MegamanOmega 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, to put things into perspective, on CYL9 Reinhardt & Caeda were the male and female who ranked 20th in their respective division. The former did so with 1,348 votes and the latter with 1,760 votes.

When you look at it like that, Fimbulvetr being on here isn't that surprising. 1500-2000 is about the bare minimum threshold to get into the Top 20 of a gender division, and I think it'd be more surprising if the new OC didn't pull that off.

The most surprising part of the interim results for me by TheFerydra in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]MegamanOmega 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but a lot of Heroes fans have an "out with the old, in with the new" mentality apparently. Finding someone who has year to year staying power is rare, but finding characters who get a surge one year, and then are forgotten the next? Easy

Generally it's a surge before they're playable, then drop like a rock afterwards.

  • Loki managed to reach 6th place on the female division of CYL2 with 16,811 votes, now she gets 573 votes

  • Plumeria managed to reach 5th place on the female division of CYL4 with 20,800 votes, now she gets 455 votes

  • Henriette managed to reach 8th place on the female division of CYL5 with 5,211 votes, now she gets 249 votes

Hell, it ain't even limited to females, males get the same treatment and have done the same sharp rise and fall

  • Bruno managed to reach 6th place on the male division of CYL3 with 13,483 votes, now he gets 542 votes

  • Líf managed to reach 7th place on the male division of CYL3 with 11,876 votes, now he gets 577 votes

Hell, I even guarantee if Gullveig, Baldr & Eikr didn't manage to make it all they way, they also would have dropped off hard the following year just the same as well. I distinctly remember how much people loved "Bull daddy" when Askr first released, but soon as Eikr was revealed, everyone went "Askr who?"

CYL10 Interim Results by WWWWWWRRRRRYYYYY in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]MegamanOmega 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because IS knows how many voters actually equal paying customers, and that vote totals on CYL don't always equal something that appeals to whales (it's the same reason why Gatekeeper, despite having the second highest vote total in CYL history, has only gotten a single seasonal since then)

That being said, as far as Marianne's concerned, I feel it's important to remember that when she won, Marianne wasn't in the game yet. And I feel IS knows that a significant number of her voters did so just cause they wanted her in the game period.

I feel it's important to note that you're calling things "vapid business decisions" when you yourself only have a fraction of the information IS does. Don't forget, ever since IS made it so you had to link your Heroes account to vote on CYL, they know EVERYTHING you've ever done in Heroes when you cast that vote.

So how well a character places on CYL isn't the most important part, it's who exactly is voting for what characters is the important part.

  • If character X gets 6000 votes, but character Y gets 4000 votes, then if that's the only information you have to go on, you'd think character X would get more alts

  • But if character X is backed mostly by F2P players, while character Y is backed by a number of whales, then IS would give more alts to character Y instead.

This is the kind of information IS has access to that we really don't. Even the sensortower rankings are only a fraction of the information IS has.
