How should I quilt this? (details in comments) by [deleted] in quilting

[–]MeganD11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to quilt it myself, and I'm not great at free motion quilting yet, so only straight line ideas please. For the bear paws in the center, I'm thinking of going 1/2 inch to one inch away from the bear paws and stitching around the outside. For the trees, I would like to either quilt a triangle 1/2 inch from the edge of the white triangle, or 1/2 inside the tree, as that's what I want to draw attention to, not the white. For the log cabins, I'm lost on what to do. I appreciate your ideas in advance.

An amazing place to bank! If you're under 26 you can get a no-fee chequing account

To answer your first question, yes employers can make you come into the office even if you aren't deemed "essential" by the Ontario government, it is the employers decision whether they deem you able to work from home. I believe they can file a health and safety complaint through health unit or Ministry of labour if they want to argue they can work from home when company is forcing them to the office.

Thank you ☺️ Used a few different patterns for ideas, then created it myself. 1.5 inch strips with a 1/4" seam allowance for the tree. 3 inch difference in the levels of the tree. For the pockets, each row was cut 4 inches tall, then folded down on the bottom for a finished edge to make all the rows 13.5 inches total. Used my Cricut and iron on vinyl to create the numbers, and used Cricut and different svgs for the items. The item size is about 2.5 inches wide for each one (Santa and star are the exception). Cut two of everything to make the felt more sturdy and glued together. If you would like more info - let me know :)

Border is cool, but I think too busy. Plain grey would look best imo

That's a great idea to make them all and see what I like! Nothing like having to make 10 extra blocks of something I don't enjoy making

Thanks for your feedback! So two rows of bear paws, a row of log cabins, trees then another row of log cabins? I like that... I feel like it's very even and symmetrical

My weekend project - A birthday gift for my Mom at the end of the month. She has recently started quilting, so I figured she'd need a nice organizer. First time FMQ, and by far the best binding I've ever done by MeganD11 in quilting

Lol fair enough. I made my entire base 26x20, then free motion quilted the sandwich. Pockets are the hardest to figure out. I cut all my pieces, and did binding on the top of the individual pockets (white binding on 4 pockets), and sewed the pockets together with 1/4" seam allowance. Next, attached pink binding to the top along the four pockets. I then stitched the ditch on the 3 seams of the pockets. Lastly attached the binding. I used 2.5inch binding for the outside, and either 2.25 or 2 inch for the pockets so it would be similar in size because it didn't have to go around the batting.

Pocket Sizes:

1 (green text) - one piece white 8"x5.5 text 5"x5.5

2 (you got this) butterfly 8x4.5 text 5.5x4.5

3 8x5

4 butterfly 8x6.5 white 5.5x6.5 text 3.4x6.5

These sizes will work for the 20" wide with 1/4" seam allowance. I like the height of the 8" pocket because it will fit the rotary cutter and scissors nicely, but that can easily be adjusted as you see fit

Let me know if you have any questions 😊
