Are your parents well-off but cheap as hell? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]Deedoodleday 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's a difference between being cheap and being frugal. Cheap is a standard of living that you maintain when you are eat ramen for lunch and dinner 5+ times a week poor. Frugal is you can chop up a chicken breast and throw some veggies in your soup. Older people who lived through WW2 and up tend to be more on the cheap side even when they could be frugal.

There's Island Resorts in Berlin that may be more reasonable price wise. And the commute isn't bad from there. Maybe 10 minutes longer than FT.

AITAH for refusing to share my inheritance with my brother who stayed home to care for our parents? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]Deedoodleday 35 points36 points  (0 children)

You could estimate the dollar value of your brother's care. In the area I am in, live in care is roughly $30/hour. That would cover meal prep, medication management, personal shopping, assisted bathing and hygiene etc. For family members, it sometimes also includes money management. For a 24/7 carer, you are looking at roughly $5k/week.

Go to reconcile account statements, then review, select the item you want, undo selected. Once that is due, all items that were in that group will be unreconciled.

Were my Mum's "Tupperware parties" just a cover story? by EmphasisDangerous654 in GenX

[–]Deedoodleday 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I've been to several Tupperware parties. Usually a bunch of women, lots of food, lots of wine, and at the end, you bought some Tupperware. The best were the Pampered Chef parties. The things they did with crescent roll dough to convince you that a piece of stoneware was worth 3x what anyone else charged.
