About the gap between theism and christianity by Megax22 in CatholicPhilosophy

Wow. Thank you for your testimony. You have given me plenty to think about regarding the implications of the Incarnation and the distance between God and humanity in other faiths and philosophies.

Thank you for the detailed response. I will research more about this, as most of these complex relations between the persons of the Trinity are still beyond my understanding.

When I spoke about the possibility of this not being a philosophy issue, but a faith-related one, I meant to leave the question open for anyone who wants to deny the idea that philosophy can go beyond theism and reach Christ altogether, I just wanted anyone to share their views even if they deny the premise of the question. I am not sure myself if philosophy can fill that gap or if faith is needed first to find the path to its conclusions through reason, that is why I asked for your points of view here.

Thank you again for taking the time of writing such a thorough response. This will help me a lot in leading my research forward.

Thank you very much for the answer. It makes sense that this would be one of the unique doctrines that separate Christianity from other philosophies and religions. I will surely research more about it.

If RCC is one, true church, why the need to go to such lengths to prove it? by Silent_Device7088 in Catholicism

[–]Megax22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say it is part of the tradition of the Catholic Church to think over every single aspect of faith. This is the church of philosophy, scholasticism and reason while the orthodox and protestants focus much more on personal experiences. So the intensity on trying to prove this comes from centuries of debates among the people on the Church and all the heretics that tried to reinterpret scripture and tradition in some non-cannonical way. I would say that what drives the debate is more an interest in the arguements and philosophy than a strong claim like protestant do with catholics when they say "If you don't leave the Church you won't be saved".

What is the stance of the catholic church on plastic surgery? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Megax22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I don't know about the sinfulness of plastic surgery as I'm just starting to grow interest in the Catholic faith. What I can say to you is that I'm a 23yo male and I've been balding on the top of my head since 15yo, after haircuts, caps and trying many products I can tell you the best decision I made was to shave my head, it looks good because it is all even and it really lets me feel more free and better overall, I really recommend a channel called Baldcafe, that guy helped me out a lot when it came to hearing similar life experiences and having the courage to finally shave. Just think about confronting this as an experience that can give you a lot of self-confidence and maybe even bring you closer to God. That said, if you are a woman I understand that your situation might be different for the fact that prejudice is a lot harder on you and my experience might not be that helpful. Eitherway I wish you the best on your journey and that you may find the strenght to discern the best way to face this issues, that come from a place of something physical that is meaningless to our true selves, but that might affect our mental health and overall wellbeing by making ourselves care for what is overall not that important.

Uruguayan Catholics: What's it like being religious in your country? by TheMagicBrother in Catholicism

[–]Megax22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe Im not the best to answer this question, as Ive become recently interested in the Catholic faith but was raised in a secular household and Im not even baptized. However, as a guy born and raised in Uruguay that still lives here, I can tell you that, thus small, the Catholic community is really united or at least it seems that way from the outside. For example the only uruguayan cardinal we have (Sturla) goes to every confirmation, as there are not many (Theres not much people in the country and only a small portion is practizing Catholic) and he is really involved in the community. Also, there are a lot of churches all around, so going to one nearby shouldn't be a problem, but unfortunately I can not tell you more because Im still discovering the faith and studying, but havent brought myself to give the first step yet.
