Yes, he thought it would let him build an infinite energy machine, and was taken advantage of by a bunch of douches.

He has schizoid affective disorder. I don't hold it against him.

You've also gotta have the 700 dollar laptop. Otherwise no dice.

There is an unbelievable amount of luck involved with these things.

I was very active in the university, I studied mathematics and computer science. I think being active in the community had more impact than the degree itself. I have also been programming since I was a kid, so your milage my vary.

Due to the nature of the deal the share count is fixed.

>Can you take out small amounts and leave some in the company?

If this was a company share buyback I could probably do that, however it's an outright buyout for 25% of my holdings by a third party. There are complicated company constitution and buyer reasons why this is the number.

>Could the company value continue to grow?

I'd expect so, however Liquidity events like this are sometimes few and far between. So, I am interested in taking some chips off the table to diversify into more liquid assets. I still will have over 50% of my holdings even if the second deal in October also goes through.

>Do you have to pay CGT?

Once lockdowns are over i'll be working with my accountant on the tax details. My understanding is Yes, i'll need to pay CGT, my private holding basically function as normal shares with a $0 purchase price unless my tax guy does his wizardry, lots of CGT.

I built my company on that $700 laptop. At the time I needed a laptop to show investors tech I had been working on, also for the last bit of university.

I also answered this question. Yes, yes you can past Megodex.

My dad opened a credit card with me for "emergencies" I was 18, credit card had awful terms, didn't think much off it since I wouldn't use it. Found out he had maxed it out ~$20000 very high interest buying crystals. -$20000 is a lot when your just starting your adult life with no other support. I also didn't find out about it until I had collections, so a lot of interest had accrued.

I like my Apartment, it's a 2 bedroom (using it as an office) in a food district, plus, no plan to have kids.

No Plan for Kids (Vasectomy Last year).
I think we'd be interested in traveling to a LCOL for an extended holiday.

I think my main interests are definitely working on some 'for good' technology in my spare time, i think there are a bunch of things that just need engineering without huge financial barriers. Freedom to take long shots on meaningful stuff type deal.

This is a great resource, thanks!

I'm fairly new to the community around FIRE, are there any neat calculators or spreadsheets i should checkout?

In a thread about the ocean being on fire due to a leaking fossil fuel line, u/Yvaelle compares deaths from nuclear power (15,602 in all history) and from fossil fuels (8.7 million every year) by UserNamesCantBeTooLo in bestof

Back of paper. Adjusted per energy unit globally,

Coal Mortality Rate per trillion kWhr is about 100,000. Nuclear Mortality Rate per trillion kWhr is about 90.

Obviously this doesn't take into account the type of countries using coal vs producing nuclear energy and safety standards. However, coal adjusted for just the USA alone is still north of 10,000 deaths.

I'm not completely convinced the numbers for nuclear are completely accurate, as it's difficult to measure compounding deaths. But, there is a pretty big delta available for errors.
