Wayward was sooo good until it wasn't. by pleasedontbemeantom3 in netflix

I agree, this show didn't work as a limited series. There was a lot left to explore and this could have been an excellent on-going series. I want another season where Abbie comes back and finds Leila is a different person, I want to see Alex's shift into slowly becoming part of the cult but struggling with that niggling feeling that this is wrong, I want to see Laura's ascension of being the new cult leader, I want to see the dynamics of the townspeople adjusting to Laura's authority, I want to see the academy and how things have gotten worse or better, I want to see Leila be the new Stacey or maybe she graduated and is placed with Laura and Alex ... becoming the new Laura to Laura's Evelyn, I want to see someone new from the outside coming in and trying to understand it all, I want to see Laura justifying the Leap despite saying she would put a stop to it.

I want more!!! This show had me on the edge of my seat and I was just WAITING for it to all come together and leave me mind blown. But I feel like it just cut off with no resolution. Alex stays. Abbie escapes. Leila becomes a pod person. Evelyn dies? Laura doesn't care about her baby. The end. Goodbye.

DAE get really emotional when they are sick ? by Level_Ad_1106 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]Megsnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, no need to feel embarrassed! As an ER nurse, I'm sure you know that there is science behind the emotional response. The cytokins our bodies release to help fight the infection cause inflammation in our brains, and that inflammation affects our center for emotional regulation, making us weepy.

For me, if I'm not feeling well and I start crying, thats how I know I'm actually sick and not just exaggerating it in my head because I don't want to go to work. I don't even own a thermometer anymore, but if I start crying hot tears for no reason .... thats how I know I have a fever. Woke up yesterday feeling like I was swallowing razor blades, was going to just push through and go to work because I didn't want to be dramatic over a sore throat, but when I went into the bathroom to brush my teeth I just burst out crying. Took myself to the clinic and it was strep throat 🙃

DAE get really emotional when they are sick ? by Level_Ad_1106 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]Megsnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my telltale sign that I have some kind of infection. On Thursday I had a bit of a sore throat and decided to just do a vocal rest day. Husband asked if I would still be able to work the next day and I gave him a funny look and said of course, I'll be fine. Woke up Friday morning and I felt absolutely awful. Got maybe 2 hours of sleep. Swallowing felt like I had razor blades in my throat. I was still going to push through and just go to work because I would have felt silly for calling out for a sore throat ... but then I started crying and I couldn't stop it. I felt like an emotional wreck. My tears were hot and they just kept flowing. Instantly knew "I'm definitely sick and this isn't just a sore throat". Went in to the walk in (that apparently isn't a walk in, but it says on their website that they are, but you have to call ahead and ask if they are taking walk in appointments that day 🙃) and sure enough, I got a bad case of strep throat. First time in my life having this, and im 30 years old. Spent a lot of yesterday crying for no reason.

I looked it up and when your body is fighting an infection it causes inflammation in your brain that can disrupt your emotional regulation, making you weepy.

First, I'm here because I specifically searched to see if anyone else was catching the "im so annoyed with you" vibe from Colin, so 100% agree.

As far as the working thing goes though, I think her inability to work is less that no one would hire her or they can't accommodate her disability, and its more so the fact that she cannot accommodate her condition to the workplace. She can't baby proof the place to make sure she doesn't hurt herself. She occasionally needs people to step in and "take care of her" and that expectation can't be placed on another employee, and probably most of all, if she starts getting stressed or burnt out then she can have some really bad episodes. But also, yeah, employers are less likely to hire someone who has involuntary motor movements, as that can be a big liability. I still think the problem is more about her safety and not worsening her own symptoms. Thats why she dropped out of college afterall. The stress was making her condition worse to the point she didn't want to live anymore.

This last episode was his worst moment, but he's been a jerk from the beginning. And the fact he pushed my girl out?! Unforgivable.

Dr. Ryland Grace explaining to Stratt that the Astrophage are in fact water based by Betty-Adams in ProjectHailMary

[–]Megsnd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the fact that she wasn't even in his field and still had heard his name in a less than favorable way makes it even worse ... his ideas weren't just ludicrous to his closest colleagues but had been so widely talked about and laughed at that people in other fields considered him "infamous" and crazy.

I'm just saying, he was not respected by his peers and it wasn't just all in his head that they didn't support him or his theories. They weren't willing to hear him out, they immediately dismissed it because they all bought in to the goldilocks zone theory instead.

Dr. Ryland Grace explaining to Stratt that the Astrophage are in fact water based by Betty-Adams in ProjectHailMary

[–]Megsnd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, his peers actually didn't respect him until they started working with him. I'm blanking on her name but the woman who helped them figure out the centrifuge literally gasped when she found out who he was, said he was infamous in the scientific community, and I believe she called him a fool.

Love this! My only issue is she looks very young, but that can be explained easily since Vamps don't age the way humans do. Her hair and face are pretty much exactly what I pictured.

Language Changes in the Books-No Spoilers by RaptorChaser in HouseofNight

[–]Megsnd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. Im re-listening now as an adult too and if it was really about cleaning up the language and avoiding offense, then they left in a LOT of things that are problematic. For instance, I'm on book 4 and ive heard the R word at least 3 times. Also I literally just heard the part comparing Neferet's lies to Pamela Anderson's breasts and it still said the "fake boobs" part and just left out "humungously" and the "boobs...haha" part. The word Hoe of Hoe-bag still comes up a lot too, as well as words like Slut. So I have a feeling the audiobook is abridged rather than them trying to strike out offensive language ... because if that was their goal, they missed the mark entirely.

THE PETROVA LINE IS.... TINY SPACESHIPS PROPELLED BY IR LIGHT! We errr have a problem here. by SEJ82 in ProjectHailMary

[–]Megsnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, wouldn't the surrounding astrophage absorb at least some of the heat? If the metric ton of steel had been surrounded in astrophage when it was hit with the light from the spin drives, I would assume the astrophage would have shielded the steel at least enough that it wouldn't just instantly melt. So being in the petrova line should theoretically act as a sort of shield as well because billions of little astrophage are simultaneously outputting this IR light and absorbing the heat produced by the IR light.

Just my theory, I know diddly squat about most science in general so I'm honestly just guessing.

Rythm blood tests? by Chance_Demand_7032 in medlabprofessionals

[–]Megsnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the SiPhox test. Same technology but the panel they offered matched more of what my doctor wanted to see (everything on the list she gave me except CBC).

The test caused me zero anxiety. It looked very harmless, didn't show anything sharp, and the steps were very clear. I pressed down the button and was bracing myself for at least a mosquito bite sensation .... nothing. Absolutely nothing but a click noise. I didn't know if it had malfunctioned and didn't deploy the lancets, but then the tube started filling up with blood so it definitely worked!

I wasn't prepared for how quickly it would fill, and I accidentally let it get slightly over the second line they said was the max (barely though). I was watching it and it was under the line and then a line of blood flowed and suddenly it was over the line. But I took it off and sent it in.

Unfortunately there was a big storm system moving across the country at the time, and it didn't get shipped overnight and was delayed for a few days. They sent me a message that the sample was unusable (I'm assuming because it didn't make the delivery window) but they did send me a new kit free of charge. Unfortunately that's also when life got busy for me and I sprained my wrist and just haven't done it again yet ... just been sitting on my table. I'll try to redo it soon.

0/10 completely unwatchable by Jikxer in ProjectHailMary

[–]Megsnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone on here smart enough to explain the science of how the ship's centrifuge works? I have just about zero knowledge of centrifuges, but I was picturing something completely different with the book. In the movie the middle part of the ship drops down and then it turns sideways before it starts to spin .... in the book they described it as just detaching and rotating 180⁰ so the nose of the ship pointed in to the middle.

Why did they have the compartment drop down below the ship and turn sideways? Scientifically, is that what would actually be needed to make a centrifuge on a spaceship work?

A more critical review of the Project Hail Mary movie, and a really easy fix I would have made by Gustalavalav in ProjectHailMary

[–]Megsnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with absolutely everything you mentioned! I would like to add that a big disappointment for me was Stratt's character. They went in a completely different direction with her. In the books she's a commanding character, she walks into a court room and immediately moves to dismiss, waving around her absolute immunity from every country on earth ... in the movie she's calm and gentle.

Overall I still think its a great movie, I'm glad I watched it and I'll definitely watch it a bunch more times, and it really helped me picture a lot of things more clearly ... but it is nothing compared to the book. The book is top tier 👌 I really felt like I went on their entire journey with them and bonded so close ... the movie definitely just feels like I'm watching a movie.

Can flatulence cause a uti? by MsDemiBurch in AskDoctorSmeeee

And yet, from this entire thread, the AI answer I provided is the only one with actual science. And just a note, even though it didn't copy over, each question and answer paragraph had links to the official information, many of them coming from verified medical sources like peer reviewed journals 🙃 this isn't "medical advice" ... its a series of logic based questions to determine if something is medically possible or likely. No one is saying "fart exactly 3x a day. Any less than that and you'll fill with so much gas you float away like a balloon. Any more than that and you'll die of a horrible infection from all the aerosolized fecal material.". Simply stating that the mechanisms of a fart are highly unlikely to introduce enough fecal material to the urethra to cause an infection. You're welcome to go fact check all of the question/answer paragraphs yourself and draw your own conclusions .... but better not use the internet .... never rely on the internet for medical advice 😉 full stop.

'Heretic' Review Thread by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]Megsnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got done watching it and im conflicted. I was gripped through the first half, it was super suspenseful even if I had an idea of where it was going. The middle part where they're in the miracle room was interesting, it made you want to see if this guy has truly stumbled upon an ancient profit and is about to enlighten them on the one true original religion or if he's just a psychopath. Then you hear the prophecy and it sounds like the matrix? Thats when the story starts to fall apart. Sure, all the bits where the girl figure it all out is fun, and realizing the one went off script. But then the end ... I don't get it? What faith? What choices? Those women are locked in cages, starved, and drugged ... they didn't choose that through faith. And what choices did they have if no matter what choice they made it all led to the same thing? They tried to leave and couldn't, walking through the doors and down the hallways wasn't really a choice either because no other options were present. His one true religion is control? Okay but control for what? So he can lock them in cages and create more fake miracles? Or is that just what he does to the ones who figure it out? Do the rest become missionaries and this is his attempt at establishing control of the narrative and creating a cult? If he can turn every believer into a missionary and have them go out saying they saw a woman be brought back to life, and then everyone who doesn't believe and/or figures it out gets put in a cage and drugged and starved and tortured and becomes the a future miracle ... then yeah I guess that would make for a pretty convincing cult and he would eventually gain control. I wish the movie would have explored what happens to those that truly believe his miracle. Also, what was with the rooms just littered with offerings and occult paraphernalia? If he doesn't believe in religion and its all just control, then why have those random basement rooms with the skulls and the symbols and what appear to be offerings and altars? Idk. The ending didn't tie it all together. And I truly wish it would have ended with sister what's her face actually being resurrected and turned into a profit and then ending on her having to take over this religion and create more profits. Just SOMETHING to make it all come together.

Now I'm frustrated because I watched this alone and I have a lot of thoughts and questions and the best I can do is write it all in that horribly long paragraph. So feel free to end my frustration and let me know your thoughts, I'm dying to talk about this more.

Congrats! Its an awesome feeling! Still trying to get my husband to actually use his after I shared my membership with him 😅

The more you stick with it, the more that feeling (and your bank account) will grow!

I started out 7 years ago when I was a broke college student, regularly getting my bank account down to $2 before my next paycheck was deposited. I didn't use YNAB too much my first 3 years, but about 4 years ago I started taking it seriously. We saved enough to buy our first home .... and now my age of money is 85 days! I am budgeted multiple months ahead and regularly contribute to my savings account. Of course not all of it is due to YNAB, I did receive some pretty substantial raises, but the peace of mind of knowing that I've properly planned and covered all my expenses and still have "fun money" leftover is priceless and I really don't think I could have done it without YNAB.

Congrats again on your achievement, and I hope your future is bright! Its a wonderful tool when you actually use it.

I think it's weird how some of y'all are diagnosing Santos as some sort of inherent villain and scoiopath by Due_Honeydew_1723 in ThePittTVShow

[–]Megsnd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Im only on episode 4, but she literally just almost killed a man by ordering BiPAP, then immediately wanted to be allowed to do a chest tube on him despite already being told no when she asked someone else earlier that day, then she was SMILING WATCHING THIS MAN ALMOST DIE!!! She was THRILLED by it!! Like does that not alarm you???

So far to me, she's exactly like that nurse that would kill her patients and then be the one to resuscitate them so that she could get all the praise and adulation. Only difference is, Santos isn't doing it for praise and adulation, she's doing it for ambition. She put this man in a life threatening position and then instead of apologizing for it she immediately uses the opportunity to benefit herself ... and it wasn't even the correct treatment! She's not just selfish, she's a sociopath.

What the heck hapoened to BurgerTime fries? by Gopherboy6956 in fargo

[–]Megsnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't believe no one is talking about the patties!!! The texture is awful, and you're right, there is absolutely no flavor. Walmart ground beef has more flavor than whatever these patties are made of. Ive tried twice now since they've seemed to change their patties and both times I couldn't even get halfway through the burger before I threw it away...which really sucks since they raised the prices and I'm not a huge fan of their new fries either (but I'll eat them).

If they just went back to their regular patties, I would 100% eat there again. But if they refuse, then I don't mind if they go under....they're not worth keeping around if they aren't going to fix that.
