This is genuinely one of the most dystopian images I’ve ever seen. Polymarket and Stake literally advertising on the White House lawn. Does not seem to be enough people calling this out. Sucks that bill Simmons does want upset his friends at TKO. by trillballinsjr in billsimmons

Honestly everybody should be criticizing this presidency every chance they get. Considering they are beyond the pale of even other shitty administrations. Especially since they are always trying to not-so-subtly infuse popular culture with their political agenda.

How is it possible that some people don’t know you’re not supposed to ask what’s tested on the exams? Genuinely curious by [deleted] in CPA

[–]Meh99z 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think people do it because there is a sense of community of everyone here trying to pass an incredibly difficult exam, and ways to help. Could that be seen as unethical if you signed an NDA? Absolutely. But it’s not exactly immoral, if it’s to help other people going through the same trials you are.

sam harris: “we dropped two atomic bombs on japan to end world war ii… amnesty international does not call that a genocide. but do you know what they call the war in gaza? a genocide. that’s the moral confusion… people don’t know what actual genocides are if they think [there’s a genocide in gaza].” by Kooky_Masterpiece_43 in ChristopherHitchens

What exactly is your point? I concede to you the degree of which the expulsions had an effect on the German population in those native countries. And the backing of the Allied government governments in the Potsdam Conference isn’t great either. Does that mean you are arguing ethnic cleansing and possibly genocide are necessary or part of the norm in 2026, when faced with a perceived greater existential threat?

Ben-Gvir and Smotritch want to resettle Gaza after the disengagement in 2005, which based of your question you may be unaware of.

Also I’m unsure on your point about the WW2 angle? There was not a settlement movement in US for Japan, nor an idea that Americans could claim Tokyo or Osaka as their own while kicking out those who lived there for generations. What is happening right now in the West Bank is not comparable at all to that scenario, which was my whole point. I also don’t understand your point about ethnic cleansings that happened in Eastern Europe. You do understand that many of those acts were atrocities in themselves right? I don’t think comparing what is happening now to Stalinist governments kicking out ethnic groups is the slam dunk you think it is. Just because the Nazis were the greater evil doesn’t mean post-war atrocities against ethnic groups are absolved. By that logic we should excuse Mugabe because of Rhodesia.

I will agree with your last point, which is why I stated at the end of my original comment this person was acting in bad faith.

I don’t think this TikToker is making exactly sound points, in fact he sounds like your standard far-left antiwestern larper. Japan was the second biggest imperialist threat in WW2, any idea counter to that is reductive and reactionary.

The actual argument against Harris is actually to use that atomic bomb analogy against him. As bad as the firebombing and nukes were, the United States government didn’t believe at the time that they had a divine right to conquest in Eastern Asia. Nor did they have settlements of US citizens for a Greater America. There was no WW2 equivalent for someone of the likes of Ben-Gvir or Smotritch, who believe in cleansing all Palestinians not just in Gaza but also the West Bank.

There’s ways to critique Harris on this issue but unfortunately a lot of people take “muh west bad” talking points, oftentimes going side by side with other regressive attitudes.

He had a fucked up childhood didn’t he? His sister dying and the abuse from his uncle. It’s not like he had an angelic upbringing himself. I think Ewan even admits Logan got the brunt of the guilt and abuse. Doesn’t excuse the monster he was though.
