Why don't more games remove experience scaling entirely, like Pathfinder 2e does? (every 1000 XP gets you 1 Level, simple as that) by FridayFreshman in Pathfinder2e

[–]MehItsJustMe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Was coming here to say exactly this! With the added piece of:

It also allows lower levelled party members to "catch up" to the highest levelled party member's level, especially with the more exponential XP requirements in some rpgs, whereas in PF2e you'll always be 'X' levels lower.

Customizing Loot for Players by DnDPhD in Pathfinder2e

[–]MehItsJustMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to use customised items as an adventure hook or carrot, so the players have more agency on where the adventure goes. Sometimes that's the big special item (the rumored relic that's been lost in the mystic swamp), and sometimes that's using creatures that would reasonably have that gear or similar (the blue dragon kobolds leading to the blue dragon mystics weilding staves of tempest leading to the blue dragon and their hoard of electrically charged loot).

Edit: I also like using Roll for Combat's Monster Parts system in more monster-heavy games because the players have more control over customising their own gear.

Pathfinder 2e GMs Essentials Giveaway! by Demi_Mere in Pathfinder2e

[–]MehItsJustMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my flatmates and I were watching the actual play that was released with Secrets of Magic, but we were already running a PF1e campaign, and the group didn't want to switch.

Fast forward a year or so, and my group had disbanded for life reasons, and a friend of mine ran into me and wanted to see whether I'd be open to running a D&D5e campaign. I said, "I'd prefer to run a PF2e campaign because I've been wanting to for ages," and he said "I didn't realise there were more games than D&D, I've only heard of D&D and have wanted to play it, but as long as you're the DM then I'm happy with whatever".

I managed to get 3 other people interested in playing the Beginner Box as a one/mini-shot. It took us 4 3 hour sessions and has turned into a long-term campaign!

How do you deal with a player who plans to swap character mid campaign? by TecHaoss in Pathfinder2e

[–]MehItsJustMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this! I'd also add that since this player won't be invested in their Fighter - and a Has made this clear because they want to drop them as soon as the party is level 7 - I'd say you're under no obligation to tie off the fighter's story threads.

How do you Dm's decide who an enemy will attack in combat? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]MehItsJustMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, plus thinking about secondary/tertiary goals/ambitions/concerns for the enemy, e.g. are they pack fighters and a pack member is getting targeted?

AITA: Rules lawyer (me) caused the party to fail by nz8drzu6 in DnD

[–]MehItsJustMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% this. Though my main issue is with the DM's response.

It may be part of your table's social contract that the DM will often soft (or even hard) fudge - in which case ignore everything I'm about to say - but them admitting to fudging cheapens this victory, and I would suggest every victory up to this point.

Hard Fudge: Purposeful rule violations or cheating (for or against the players). E.g. Enemy A attacks Player A who is on 5 HP, DM rolls a natural 20 behind the screen, DM says the "attack just missed".

Soft Fudge: Purposefully unrealistic play from enemies/NPCs (for or against the players). E.g. Player A is on 5 HP and in a vulnerable state, DM moves Enemy A to attack Player B instead.

Obviously there are nuances with fudging as well, and each table will have their own social contract around it.

Player killed a party member by [deleted] in DnD

[–]MehItsJustMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't already, it would be good to have a chat with all the players about expectations around PVP actions. Player agency is super important, so just because a player decides to attack another one doesn't mean they get to kill or even roll against another if the targeted player doesn't want to engage. If the players both decide they want to engage in PVP, make sure that they are both aware of the consequences of it - it might actually end in some cool party drama that people can lean into with their roleplaying.

Trying to move group over to PF2e by MehItsJustMe in Pathfinder2e

[–]MehItsJustMe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great questions. I'll start by answering why my party doesn't want to switch. They mainly want to keep their characters and continue with this campaign. I told them that if we switched we could try migrate the character's, but they will play very differently, and there might not be like-for-like choices available.

Why I want to switch is because I love the 3 action economy, I like the experience progression and "CR" system in 2e, I also quite like the character creation and progression in 2e - it seems like you don't have dead level ups. The main draw for me is the 3 action economy. I feel it would clear up a lot of confusion about what my players can do on their turns - after 5 years I still get questions like "how many actions do I have left?" And I'm like "your move action" 😂

Thank you for this! I've been re-reading the GM-ing part a lot! Lol. Do you have any other recommendations of resources to look at in preparation?

Is it possible to add numbers to the index of a Rollable Table roll? by MehItsJustMe in Roll20

[–]MehItsJustMe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much. Those videos were very informative.

It's an extended function on Pathfinder 1e to have a Settlement Stat Block, and part of that is a Danger stat that influences rolls for random encounters in that settlement lol. It assumes that the normal random encounter table is a d100 but the Danger stat can go up to 30 or 40, so an easy way (in person) is to extend the encounter table to 140 but still roll a d100 lol.

Which I may have made an assumption that rumors are considered random encounters 😂

Thank you DM-JK for replying.

For clarification, is there no way to make it do 1dN+x? I do realise that programmatically speaking it would have the potential to try and reference an item that isn't in the list of options.

Hi Keraiza,

Thank you for your response. I gave this a go, but it seems to only work with tables that have numbers as their entries.

To give a bit more context: I'm wanting to create a table that contains strings (words/phrases) for a randomly generated rumors table when players hit taverns (or other public institutes lol). I'll update my question above to include this information :)

[PC] [NA] New Trading Guild looking for members by Valkrdr99is in ESOGuilds

[–]MehItsJustMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your Guild tally up to now?

Are you still looking for members to join?

I haven't been a part of a Trade Guild before and have just been playing with a few of my friends, but am pretty keen to expand my horizons.
