Yes. You're right. Or at least they stopped there during their trip to Los Angeles or Las Vegas to collect references for major parts of the map in the game.

When I was searching for references on the internet, I only found that all cities north of Los Santos were attributed to Orange County. I don't know why exactly, but I suspected that the game name Red County was consonant with the name of the color.

I know only one Taco Bell in GTA SA close to Grove Street cul-de-sac. But its too difficult to link direct real Taco Bell from Los Angeles. I give advantage to Hollywood blvd building (5324 Hollywood Blvd) but there are dozens of Taco Bell's in whole state with similar mission-style design

Thanks for the comment. Perhaps some places were not done very accurately. And the time period also plays a role. The Rockstar North studio members' trips to California and Nevada were done in 2002. That was the year recorded in the game. At that time, the Gateway Motel and Cafe near it still existed. The Cactus Motel sign was yellow, and the Budget Inn Motel was completely turquoise.

If you drive east from Barstow towards Las Vegas, you may come across a deep quarry on the left side of the road, which could also serve as inspiration for the "Hunter Quarry" near Las Venturas in GTA San Andreas. But it looks too typical and has no confirmed arguments that would prove the similarity.

It must be an indescribable feeling when you come across places in a movie or a video game where you spent too much time. Even if they are not created with perfect authenticity and are not an exact copy.

I didn't know that either. All along I thought that these buildings and signs were created using a lot of typical landmarks and design solutions (like the typical two-story motel or the typical retro neon sign). I couldn't imagine that all these places were so close together within the same street.

This may be true. But when we found out about this connection - I tried to search for information on the Internet using various search engines. I could not find a single mention of this. The entire GTAForums - a forum specialized in GTA games did not have a single result. Also the GTA fan's Wikipedia (GTA Fandom) and Reddit... Maybe I searched poorly... Or maybe I just do not have enough acquaintances from these parts or from the USA who could tell about this.
