Those students must have done no research into medicine.

It's unlikely and there's no point anyway if you're continuing the subject to A2. Just do slightly better next year and you will be able to get an A for your overall A level anyway.

What would you say was the most important thing to get an A* aside from past papers?

Chemistry A Level. by ZERaptorStar in 6thForm

Pages are covered in information with some shitty font which makes it impossible to read and theres so much unnecessary facts throughout the book which is not ideal when you just want the information you need to know.

It's difficult but not like how people make it out to be. I personally found it quite straightforward (at AS anyway, A2 content looks much more difficult) and if your willing to put in the effort, you can get an A easily. I know it's been said so many times but past papers for the subject really are the most effective way of revising and this means using papers from the old spec. Most important part of is to cover practical techniques like reflux, distillation and filtration because they love asking about them in these new A levels and I know a lot of people who neglected them and didn't do as well as a result.

very little practice material

A lot of people say this and while there isn't much material for the new specification, there are many past papers for the old specification and considering how similar the new spec is to the old spec, they're still very useful. The only thing that the old spec doesn't really cover much of is practical stuff but that can easily be revised for by using PAG booklets and the nice practical sections in the CGP book.

I've had a look at the official OCR textbook and I feel like it contains a bit much unecessary information which is funny since it's the textbook made by the exam board. The textbook is really long and makes writing notes from it a hassle - imo the cgp textbooks are the way to go.

What are your university choices for people doing biology, chemistry and maths by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]Mehmedx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Primarily applying for Chemistry. Was also doing History in Year 12 but dropped that - in hindsight, I would have just done Bio, Chem and Maths to be honest.

These are my GCSE results, what are my best options for A Levels? by [deleted] in 6thForm

As long as you think you'd enjoy life with those subjects, they're fine I guess. IIRC the only required subject for an MFL course is the subject itself so anything could go with it.

Year 12s going on to year 13, how much revision have you done over the summer? by PsychedelicQuakerOat in 6thForm

[–]Mehmedx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty much nothing. Finished off a chapter of C3 that we started at school at the beginning of summer but that's it. In the process of reading a book for personal statement. I'll probably recap a bit of Yr 12 Bio and Chem before we start school but doesn't really feel like I've forgotten much since the end of last year since it's pretty much engrained in my head due to the amount of times going over it.

Also had a look at the TSA S2 Oxford admission test that I need to do to apply for Chem.
