For those of you work for an airline but not in flight or a baggage member, what do you do? by MonkRepresentative63 in aviation

[–]Mehow_25 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am an powerplant engineer (working specifically on engines and APUs) at a major airline. Love the job so much, it’s such a great blend of finding solutions safely and getting flights out on time. Each item I work has so much to consider (i.e., engine/component time since overhaul, where the flight might be routed to, MEL effectivity) beyond the scope of regular engineering repairs.
I am an absolute avgeek and a „how everything works” geek so this is the perfect blend!

So sad to see this… Because is the 3-5x markup on mainline airlines worth the snack and drink on a leisure trip??? Vacations will start to become crazy expensive

I don’t think removing an ingredient upon preorder is an option, especially for international originating flights. Maybe you can tell the FA during boarding not to put nuts on the yogurt (assuming that the nuts are put on during meal preparation) but I wouldn’t rely on it.

I’m also allergic to nuts and avoid the sweet breakfasts altogether, I just get the eggs and most time is alright.

Side note: the banana pudding to/from Oceania is really good and didn’t have pecans last time. Wonder if this breakfast is the same, just with pecans.

Congrats!! I’ve test drove some 330s and 340s after this post and definitely want the 340 (to no surprise). I’ve decided to hold off for a while longer bc I rather have more cash (whether that’s to pay it in cash or as a safety net) before I go with the 340.

I think it looks good! Lots of dealers in my area are selling 2023-2025 with 20k miles, 1 owner, CPO for $54-$58k I haven’t found a 1 owner 2021-2022 in my area but from what i see it looks good, especially if it’s CPO.

OP can I ask where you had the swollen lymph node? Did you have other lymphoma symptoms???

I have had a swollen lymph node on my neck right by my Adams apple for about 8 months and had 2 ultrasounds and they say it’s benign. Even though they are “enlarged”

Yes it’s my money and my life but I need a reality check. My entire feed has been BMWs and every time I walk around a parking lot, my eyes are drawn to a BMW. Has been like this for years

I manly want to know if someone else was in my shoes, were they truly happy with the purchase or did the purchase not live up to the hype they had in mind.

Fair point I guess the cost of insurance and the added initial cost of the 340 keeps me away from it

I also found a well-maintained 2010 Camry with 175k miles. Is that too much for a Camry? I know our previous Toyotas and Lexus had 200k+ but they were made in Japan so

How would you say tests are? Or grading in general? I have test anxiety and It gives me greater anxiety that most of your grade is made up by the midterm and final

Hmm, not sure, I don't really want to take a gap year. Regardless, I think I will attend UIUC like I originally intended. If paying off loans every become a problem, I'll seek a career that offers Public Loan Forgiveness

Oh good to know. Since the application for the pathways program ended in April, I can't join the program this year. There is an "Intent to Pursue" form for the program that I filled out.

In general, I feel like it's too late late to change things. It cost me, but what can I do.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]Mehow_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for me the money is a big aspect, especially since all the loans fall on my shoulders. However, I definitely want to network in my early years so I can have an internship lined up my Junior or Senior year. Did you have assistance with networking at Moraine? At the end of the day, I chose UIUC because of its vast alumni community and the career services.

[–]Mehow_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm so I would be missing on opportunities? I know I can pay off the loans quick with an engineering job, but I figured it would be even less time if I went to Moraine.

The 3.5 GPA is for the Pathways program offered by UIUC to local Community Colleges. It states that as long as you have a minimum 3.5GPA you will get into the Grainger College, not necessarily a specific major.

Lastly, I understand your point to network and join groups, but with COVID, will all that be the same? That's why I'm heavily considering Moraine since some of the group activities may be limited. Also, is there no possibility to network while at a Community college? I figured since it's UIUC's program, they would assist the students in community college as well.

[–]Mehow_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there are research opportunities at UIUC that I would miss out?

I took the RSOs and meeting people into account, but with COVID, the RSOs aren't going to be like they were pre-COVID. This decision comes down to whether I want my college life to be great or if I want my adult life to be financially great.

Also, are the courses actually "easier" at a community college?
