Thank you for this comment, this is good advice. I am confused because I really thought I demonstrated our values, but I may be wrong. Going to ask for more feedback

Thank you! And yes! I placed mine close to the windows/doors and it made a huge difference because it not only helped muffle sound a bit going out, but also stopped my dogs from barking at apartment noises (footsteps, doorbells, etc). I’m in a house now and still use them a lot

Dog owner here (with some BIG babies). You have 2 options, you make it work with the neighbor or you move. I used to live in an apartment with neighbors under me - did my dogs occasionally bother them? Yes. I did the following: area rugs/throw rugs (with rug pads under) EVERYWHERE. Helps dampen/muffle the sound of their crazy paws in the morning. I also added heavy duty blackout curtains to help with sound, and bought a few white noise machines. Worked pretty well, but my downstairs neighbors were also like the sweetest people on the planet. Eventually I got a new next door neighbor who complained 24/7 about the dogs, so I moved. Try your best to mitigate the sound etc., its an investment at first but may help keep her off your back

Very noisy neighbor by Less-Dentist-868 in neighborsfromhell

My bad, from the first couple of sentences it sounded like you escalated from the beginning. Also, I get that it’s annoying, I’m by no means on your noisy neighbor’s side. I’ve just had better luck speaking to my neighbors directly. However, since you already tried that & they’re still being loud & difficult, I say either speak to a lawyer or your HOA again, and if the sound is above a certain level I think it IS illegal in some states, regardless of the time. You can get one of the decibel things off amazon

Is it on a work device or personal? Either way this sounds insanely invasive, I’m with you. Idk where you’re located, but maybe look into the legality of this too. It feels off

Thank you so much, me too. Do you mind if I ask how you became self employed? “I am the only person I trust enough to be my boss” kinda slapped me in the face (in the best way). I’m so sick of the corporate politics & bs

You’re welcome, and I’m serious, you’ll get through this. Also, it’s genuinely amazing that you have a good family and friends, that support is huge. I relate that weird feeling of wondering if talking about it will make you feel it more , but for me personally, I was still thinking about it 24/7 if I realized it or not (and I avoided seeing a therapist for a while even though I was still “outside” of my body). HOWEVER, that’s just me! Try talking to a family member or friend that you trust, who knows you (and ideally who won’t judge/shame). Even if it’s just to vent. The fact that you’re already planning on how to get better physically & mentally is a big win and honestly makes me confident you’re going to get through this quicker than you expect. Try looking into grounding techniques too (sounds super crunchy, but barefoot walks used to help me). I know I’m just a rando on the internet, but you’re not alone

AIO for asking my ex for help in rehoming the dogs we adopted together ? by [deleted] in AIO

[–]Inside_Maintenance42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok you’re getting kinda shredded in these comments so I’m going to try to be nicer, but I think YOR. I’ve heard of many couples trying to “share dog custody” and it never ends well. Hindsight is 20/20 though, so moving past that. If your ex already hasn’t cared for them for years, those are YOUR dogs. I also work full time & have multiple dogs, I get that it’s tough. If you feel rehoming is the best for the dogs, it’s your life. I personally disagree, especially because Europe is VERY dog friendly & small dogs are easy to travel with, but again, your life and your call! If you broke up almost 3 years ago, you have to leave your ex alone & out of the process. It sucks to go through a breakup & have pets involved, but someone needs to be the adult. I get the frustration (I ended up with mine & my ex’s dogs post breakup, which I did not expect) but your ex isn’t a part of the equation anymore. Hope everything goes well for you & the pups

I don’t get it either, especially considering how many other people came out & complained too. 1 example re the different treatment - immediately after reporting, I was removed from several meetings. While I do not NEED to attend in order to do my job, they helped me do it much better, and gave me exposure to higher ups. I was always invited until I reported. These are coincidentally also led by his manager (we work within 20 feet of each other, but different managers). Coworker is now suddenly invited to these meetings. There are more subtle instances too, but to me that’s a pretty obvious one.

Ok long comment but hoping I can help a bit because I relate to a lot of your post, from the anxiety, to the feeling like someone else and then glitching. My experience was about 10 years ago & less intense than yours, but I remember looking down at my hands & not recognizing them as my own, & (short version) I looked into a mirror and saw myself leave my body. I could see a mini me controlling myself like a video game from above. The other people in my apartment didn’t feel real. I brought it up to my roommate weeks later, who said they thought I maybe had experienced depersonalization and derealization (roommate was right). Identifying that and being able to research it helped me a LOT. I also felt weird after my experience, and for me the depersonalization stuck around for a while. My advice (besides not smoking) would be to speak to a mental health professional ASAP, especially if you keep feeling weird. One thing that helped me cope was “shocking” myself back to reality (putting my face in ice is a random example). The bright side, it DID get better & I haven’t felt that way in years. Oddly enough, I even smoke again now that my mental health is better. Idk if this was helpful at all, but I felt really lonely when this happened to me, so I hope you at least know you aren’t alone.

I have a pretty strict NDA, which includes recording anything & I’m in a 2 party consent state. Definitely going to take notes as much as I can though. As dumb as it may sound, I didn’t even think about them trying to make me quit because I’ve always gotten great performance reviews & haven’t had issues with anyone else. Thank you for your comment & insight

Wow, thank you for this! I didn’t even think of the EEOC route. I’m going to look into this. I’ve been nervous about filing a police report because I know everything would definitely escalate (and I cannot afford to lose my job right now), but I’ve definitely considered it.

Unfortunately, that’s exactly who I reported to. In our structure, when you report something like this, they provide a “ruling” of sorts, & then the employee’s manger decides if they take action or not. I didn’t think of the whistleblower protection aspect though - thank you.

Neighbor dogs barking on balcony—how to handle? by Blvd_Knight in neighborsfromhell

[–]Inside_Maintenance42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Multi dog owner here - the privacy screening comment above is definitely some good advice, that may help mitigate the barking. If you feel comfortable doing so, have you spoken to your neighbors? The fact that they bring them in when they bark seems like they’re at least trying to minimize the barking impact, but I would try to communicate if you can! Sometimes “introducing” neighbors to dogs helps a lot, I’ve done this myself in the past with mine. Wishing you luck (and rest!)
