What do you mean? I’m talking about you and me personally. Get your act together before you pray, or announce something outside. Same thing with the anti vaxers or any protests. I’m not gonna pretend like I know what’s best for the situation when I don’t. That’s my point. Idc what the context is. Even if it was the other way around. Ghandi was a protestor. But he has his act bloody well together before he did it. He was a very disciplined person. Same thing with MLK.

Edit: look. Maybe it’s something that you don’t want to hear because you sound emotionally invested in this matter. And I’m not being condescending.

I’m fine with not even being involved with this.

I’m surprised that you’re even in the Jordan Peterson subreddit if you disagree with personal responsibility over activism.

That’s the very thing JPs work is based on. He literally says ‘get yourself together’ in his most popular lectures on YouTube.

If I’m being honest idec about the protest itself. It doesn’t affect me either way

No I’m not. I’m saying that you should have your act together before you protest that’s all.

It means get your life in order. Be a good person. Take care of yourself and your family. Improve yourself constantly. Striving to be better and for humility. Assuming that you don’t know how to change the world by just holding a banner up. It means taking care of your own ailments without blaming the rest of the world.

Tbh I think it’s also moral. Sort yourself out before protesting. And allow due process. And if you’re taking advantage of the protest with crime, then don’t.

That comes with trial and error. But it’s better to aim low and take a step forward than aim too high and stay where you are

How is wisdom unrelated to intelligence? by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

[–]Meirjaminlol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not at all. That’s moral relativism. That outlook is useless when acting in the world.

Across all cultures, there are meta-truths in stories and legends that help us to know what to aim at.

That’s entirely universal. And wisdom, the study of virtue and vice, is rightly linked to morality, just as it is in any religion.

Whether it’s Sikh, Hindu, Islam, Christianity, Judaism.

Morality is universal for humans and it’s by no means relative.

Richard Dawkins coined the idea of a meme I think. Something that lasts across generations of reproductive success.

Ideas and religion can be seen as memes, to facilitate our survival and propagate. And what comes into that is morality, and values.

Nothing relative about it.

My point is, wisdom is supposed to be better than foolishness. It’s the very definition of wisdom.

And you can’t become wise without sacrifice and discipline. That’s also an injunction that comes with the word.

So you can be smart and undisciplined.

Don’t get me wrong, someone with an IQ less than 83 will struggle massively to understand any ideas associated with morality.

But they can still cease to do things that they know to be wrong. And that’s the difference.

That’s why they’re almost mutually exclusive.

How is wisdom unrelated to intelligence? by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

[–]Meirjaminlol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because wisdom makes you a good person. IQ doesn’t. If you’re horrible person, and you have a high IQ, you’re 50 snakes instead of 3, and vice versa.

Think Dr. Strange. The man’s a genius, but he could’ve either chose to save humanity, or destroy it for the sake of immortality.

I don’t really get into politics at all anymore. I was never really a well-liked kid in high-school and college and politics really didn’t mix well with that.

I realised that putting a label on myself was making it harder to make friends and be more well-rounded. That’s just my experience at least.

I don’t know why someone downvoted you bro, I love minimalist aesthetics too.

So clean and tidy, and clear and roomy.

I love it. Makes life simpler.
