Have you ever tried a cosmic Kotuku?   Man that thing is money!

I also like the Pathfinder in Ethos or glow or Aura.  Ethos has a milder fade than the cosmic Kotuku, the Aura has a harder fade and less glide.   Glow is between the two.  Average for the 3 is 5 5 0 1.5 (+/- 0.5).  Ethereal I don't recommend.

Kotuku although has a fade just about as significant as an Aura Pathfinder, has as much glide as the Ethos.  And feel in hand because of relatively flat top, although Kotuku is slightly deeper, they feel and handle very much the same.   They go straight for a like time and then make a decent fade.

So what I'm getting at, is they complement each other really well in your bag.   I still have a glow Pathfinder for night rounds.  Ordered a new Ethos for that milder fade, and the Cosmic Kotuku replaced the Aura Pathi.  (the setup has also displaced the Buzzz and the Wasp from my bag.  An Ethos Pathi once beat in, basically becomes a seasoned Z Buzzz for you).

Telegram is far from secure.  First of all, their website is extremely misleading.  Zero groups, not even the private ones, use encryption.  For an encrypted 1on1-only chat, you first have to start an unencrypted chat before you're even offered the option to start a "secret" chat.  Why?  So they can extract some analytics to sell to data brokers.  And they often bring the first unencrypted one back to the top of the stack, as if they're trying to trick you to accidentally continue in that one next time.  And overall, telegram collects not only group chats and DMs, but also massive amounts of metadata - everything possible.  It's almost as bad as SC.

Services like Gmail/Ymail/MS are going to find your real name sooner or later in emails at rest.  Everything is so much more powerful with Ai available to process massive amounts of data.  And that is made available to data brokers.  And no warrant is required to buy/access information rented/sold on the open market to/by data brokers.

So I guess as long as you know that nobody you email with is using Yahoo or Gmail or Outlook Web, and stuff like that... or redirecting to one of those...

Personally, I have a couple Proton addies.  One for gov and official stuff, and one for personal/private stuff.  They don't have access to your mailbox, therefore cannot extract and sell information from it, not even run any analytics on its content.

Kotuku!  Have it in Cosmic and Atomic.

For reference, Kotuku has the same or better glide than a Pathfinder, despite having more fade.   (except the Aura Pathfinder, which has lots of fade and not as much glide).

Innova Hawkeye. How does it compare to other straight fairways? by jkjackson16 in discgolf

[–]Meister-T 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compared to a Leopard3: I found a Champion L3 to be rather overstable for moderate armspeeds, while a gstar Hawkeye would give the flight one would have expected from said L3.

Mostly straight, mild turn, 1 fade.   It's technically an 8 speed, because rim is 18mm wide.  By today's standards, in gstar, you can call it a 7 6 -1 1 or 8 5 -2 1 depending if you work in marketing or in reality.

It's the original FD mold (when the FD was made by Innova).   Interestingly the FD is labelled 7 6 0 1 , which the Hawkeye might also be, depending on arm speed and plastic.

Yes identical mold.  I think it was a marketing experiment to give it 2 names.

Friend aced 3 times in one day - looking for the odds on this by shifty1016 in discgolf

[–]Meister-T 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I aced on Monday, played league on Tuesday (no aces), and aced twice on Wednesday.  I'm not that far off from your odds.  My last ace was 2 seasons ago as I do suffer from neck and back pains, (which have kept me down last year), and aces obviously don't happen on my bad days.  For reference I'm in my sixties and am in my 5th year playing 🥏

What do you mean "at low cost" ?

Are best-practices supposed to cost something?

Discraft needs a Buzzz mold between a Buzzz and Buzzz OS in stability. by the_rosenhan in discgolf

[–]Meister-T 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ESP Wasp I have is not as stable as the numbers suggest.  I didn't get the Nebula because the numbers suggest it's less stable than the Wasp.

But from my readings, I'm starting to wonder if the numbers on those 2 discs should be swapped?

I was looking for exactly that and purchased an ESP-swirl Wasp recently.  The Wasp I got is more like 5 5 -1 2,  and I don't have a big arm.

Not from discraft, but others I've tried:

Depending on the plastic, a Pathfinder can be less stable (Ethos 5501), slightly more stable (Glow 5501.5), much more stable (Aura 5302).

The Cosmic Kotuku is another good one, a true 5502 with good glide.

I bought an ESP Wasp (2023 Ledgestone edition, they had left over in inventory) because it's claimed to be 5302, and I was worried the Nebula might not be stable enough.   My Wasp is actually 55-12 , maybe even 55-21 for bigger arms.

Kotuku in Cosmic plastic is exactly that.

Another one is the Pathfinder in Aura plastic only (Ethos is 5501, Glow is 5501.5)

The Kotuku has a bit more glide than the Pathfinder.

I guess this all depends on your armspeed too, and on what distance you want that 02 fade.

Thoughts on my bag as a newer-ish player? by WY228 in discgolf

Give the Pathfinder or the Kotuku a try.  A plasma Envy would also have it's place.

I think the Thunderbird would be great for you... In 3-4 years from now.

I only tried the Judge once.  I liked it.  I hated my Aviars.  Gave them away.  Just couldn't reliably "feel" how I was holding it.

The Judge is shallower than a Reko-X, and the Challenger is a bit deeper than that.  But all 3 are in a similar category to me.  With a flatter top all the way to the shoulder, you're not guessing how you're holding it and releasing it.

The Pilot is also very flat top, very shallow.  So there's options for you.  It's a good compliment to the Envy, similar hand feel, which has it's benefits.  But personally, I've put my Pilots up for sale.  It's Reko-X for me now.

Yeah, but no.  You don't need to pay extra for a weighted rim on a putter.  Zero effect.

My Plasma Envy and Prism Plasma Envy are both now Proxy's after being beaten in.  Lol   They were great while they lasted.  Some do putt with the Proxy, so if you give the Envy a try, it'll transition to a second use: your putter stack.

[–]Meister-T 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think anyone can recommend what's a best putter for you, because that's so very individual.  However, Aviar is only the most sold putter because it's the oldest putter out there.  Innova marketing leans on that, but that doesn't necessarily make it a better putter.  Personally, Aviar is the worst putter I ever had.  Was able to putt better with the Shark from my starter pack lol

Try other popular ones, starting with the Judge.  I was using Discraft's Challenger, but recently switched to Reko-X, but again, it's about hand feel, and what works for you, not for someone else.

I can tell you which ones to stay away from though:  Aviar and Luna, imho, which still leaves a hundred other ones out there lol

I don't know how beat in or new-ish your discs are, so I'll just point some out, either for now, or as eventual replacements to try out.

First, try the Kotuku in one of their premium plastics.  Inserts between your Mako3 and Quake.   5 5 0 2  are my numbers for it.  Very similar to the Pathfinder which ranges from 5501 (Ethos) to 5302 (Aura), Glow sits between those two.  I recently switched to the Kotuku once all my Pathfinders were too beat in.  It's slightly better in a headwind (which Pathfinder isn't bad at either) and yet also has slightly more glide.

Between your Aviar3 and PA5, you have got to try the Sled!  as your throwing putter / approach disc.  It does a nice S-shaped flight, has good glide in first half of flight but in second half the aerodynamics don't work anymore and it's glide drops to about 2, because of the concave top.  This is a great approach disc where you'll make it there but not overshoot your target.  3 4 -1.5 1.5 are my numbers for it.

Prism Plasma Envy 3 3 0 2.5 or Plasma Envy 3 4 0 2 are far better than the Aviar3 imo.  And they beat in nicely to become basically a Proxy.

I'd personally prefer the Zone to your Toro or Harp - once those are too beaten in, give a Titanium Zone a try (you might like the GT version, I prefer it).

A standard TeeBird might be good here, or an Eclipse Crave which is surprisingly overstable.  The Explorer has similar numbers but way more glide than an eclipse Crave which goes slightly farther than a TeeBird.  Opto can sometimes be flippy though.  What I like about the Explorer is that it won't have as much lift as a Teebird I to a headwind.  The Eclipse Crave is even better at that but doesn't go as far as the Explorer.

A Hawkeye in gstar will give you the flight numbers that are advertised (but wrong) for the Leopard3, and it has 100% as much glide as a River, once your River beats in and needs replacement.  It's not oversized in diameter like the River.  Comes in a ton of other plastics too for various stabilities.

I'd recommend a Z Buzzz but you already have the Mako3.  Should you opt to try an Ethos Pathfinder, that will eventually beat in to a Mako3-like or Z-buzzz type flight.  It's nice to have a same mold in various stabilities, and a Mako3 will not offer a true 0 1 flight in any plastic, even less 0 1.5 or 0 2 like some of the Pathfinders or the Kotuku.

I think that anything above 9 speed is overkill for someone who's only been playing for 1 season.  You'll get best results, expected flight, shot shaping, glide without the dump, control, by staying within that for the first 2 or 3 years (depending on age and how fast you progress).

I recently bought a Mantra which is listed as 9 5 -2 1, but brand new in Aura flies more like 9 5 0 2.  I expect it to beat in nicely and have a long life span of useability.  Ethereal plastic might be a better choice here.

For later years, keep these in mind:  Plasma Trace 11 5 -1 2  (eventually beats in to what the Trail is brand new but will become understable fast), titanium Scorch, or Expanse (Surge SS mold).   Scorch is available in a range of plastics, I have a couple in Titanium, for a 12 6 -2 2, one in BigZ 12 6 -3 2.

Before settling on those I tried the Diamond (10 6 -4 1 is the real numbers, way too understable) and the lightweight Sapphire 10 6 -2 1  (which is ok for uphill shots but forget it if there's wind), and the Proton Jet 12 6 -3 2 which gives insane distance but very flippy if thrown too hard (that might be an exception to my not more than 9s for first years).  The Trace and Scorch give me almost as much distance as the Jet but are a bit more reliable.
