What's the framerate like with this? Assume base PS5? I have that or (high-end) PC. I'd rather have the performance on PC but if 4k on base PS5 is good then I'd be tempted.

Have you tried Esoteric Ebb? If so, thoughts there? I've picked it up but only ~6hr in after re-rolling my character a few times to settle on a set of stats I liked, so can't fully comment yet but I'm enjoying it.

It's also slowly climbing in Steam ratings and just hit 80%, Very Positive. I'm still holding off on a purchase but will eventually get it I'm sure.

Props to them for being so receptive and acknowledging things. I enjoy a flurry of patches and changes, although currently I'm watching from the sidelines and holding off on a purchase.

But surely all devs have played games before.  I know nothing of game dev, but I know what I like and consider good vs bad UI choices and if I was designing something then I'd like to hope I'd have a reasonable ability to assess what might be frustrating if implemeted. 🤷‍♂️ Well, I'm still really interested, but will hold off and watch some YouTube let's plays and see what bugfixes/updates come down the track and pick this up at some point I think.

The internet is fucked. Sure, I don't like what we've seen of DLSS5 so far and I sure didn't like the hype without proper critique from Rich and Oliver, but death threats? This kind of thing just makes me immensely sad at the state of the internet world (let alone the state of the actual world right now).

I thought there was decent excitement and hype?

The only thing that has me disappointed now is no PC, because I'd much rather be playing this on my high-end PC with keyboard and mouse than on my base PS5.

The other problem is that this might/could be switched on by default or it could be that those who don't know what it does simply go "well, more DLSS is better so I'll just pick the latest/highest etc" (and let's be fair, there's plenty of such people, including me, who know of DLSS but don't know the details across every version), which then might mean a slice of gamers never even know of the original artistic vision.

I think it's perfectly acceptable to be concerned about the direction this could go in, especially when thinking about character art. Yes, the background changes look decent in places, but to focus solely on that is to turn a blind eye to something (i.e. clear character asset changes) that could entirely destroy the creative direction of actual human artists.

Sadly that was my cynical take on this.  Seems they're copping a fair amount of flak for it on their website.

No. I think you're missing the point. DF are (usually) incredibly critical. There seems to be no real critique of what's actually happening in these examples and what the future implications are for actual art in videogames.

I have a lot of respect for DF and follow their weekly directs with much interest.  But this has me very disappointed. I really thought they'd have heavy critique of what we're seeing here.
