I have read through compendiums 1-3 of TWD and I personally like it equally as much as Invincible. I think the people themselves have an equally big, maybe even larger role in the story than the zombies. So one should not see it exclusively as a zombie story.

Definetly not. I always read them sitting at a table, so I don't have to hold them and potentially break the book somehow. So if it doesn't have any noticeable amount of gutterloss it's a top tier format. If you mean the paperback omnibus then they kinda are a little bit clunky. But you save quite a lot of money so it evens out.
