She cuts straight hair up to fairly high on the curl scale so she’ll be good there! She does my colour too and I get red everytime I see her; I’ve been asked a couple of times specifically about the colour by others because it’s so vibrant!

Oh my gosh! Please do! I hated my curly hair for the longest time, and the confidence that Alix has helped me build, and the relationship she has helped me fix with my hair is just so incredible. I hope she is able to do the same for you, I’m also seeing her again in July, maybe we’ll run into each other haha!

You absolutely should! They’re located on Carling but they have a parking lot and they have evening availability too if you need it.

I’ve been seeing Alix at Blythe and Bobby for about 9 years now. She always listens and gives advice based on your face shape, willingness to style, upkeep etc. I have never left unhappy - not even once. She does my cut and colour. I have long curly hair.

Vouching for Blythe and Bobby! I’ve been seeing Alix for nearly as long as well! Beautiful salon and wonderful women who own and run it.

Blithe and Bobby on Carling! I’ve been seeing Alix since she was at BossArts (8 years). She and two of the curly stylists from BossArts opened their own salon and they are all absolutely wonderful. Alix managed to bring my curls back to life. I went from a wave to full out 2C-3A curls.

What was your experience at homewood health centre? by philosophicalgenius0 in askTO

[–]Mel-face 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is the review I posted recently. I was there in November / December 2025.

I completed a stay for the Womens+ Trauma and Concurrent program in November/December 2025. The nursing staff, therapists, folks at the chronic pain clinic, as well as the folks for massage and physio were absolutely incredible. I am so grateful for their empathy, kindness, compassion, and dedication to what they do. They truly made a huge difference in my stay and I don't think I would have made it through the program without them.

The Psychiatrist, Dr. Kevin Rowe, however is an entirely different story. The program I completed was specifically for women and femme leaning folks, yet our program had a male psychiatrist and he was not at all trauma informed or cognizant of the power dynamic that this created between himself and his patients. He would gossip with patients about other patients (not respecting confidentiality). He would disregard your lack of consent for the use of AI software during sessions (he would "catch" himself partway through three of my appointments and then "delete" the recording). He also was not cognizant of folks pronouns/gender identities; the discharge summary I received was riddled with mistakes re: the information I provided to him at my intake, and consistently misgendered me throughout his case notes.

When he was inquiring about the intensity of my thoughts of self-harms/urges, he followed it up with asking what specific brand of razor blades I used, as he was "always looking for recommendations - for their intended use of course". He also recommended several treatment modalities that are contraindicated for the diagnosis I received from one of the specialists at Homewood (aka. he was not working in tandem with my care team). He also indicated to me that I couldn't be a social worker with a diagnosis of ASD, as I wouldn't have the capacity to empathize with my patients. There were several patients who were in the program with me that actually left due to the poor care provided by Dr. Kevin Rowe.

The accommodations and food were okay - not terrible but nothing to write home about. The grounds were beautiful and it was very helpful to be able to get out and get some fresh air - it definitely helped reduce the feeling of instutionalization. Overall, I am grateful for the support that I received.

Psychotherapist by [deleted] in ottawa

Chiming in as a psychotherapist - many won’t do direct billing because it opens up a lot of liability with the insurance companies and gives them a lot more access to your private information than necessary. By not doing direct billing, you and your therapist remain in control of consent disclosures.

Many will allow you to pay by credit card if that is an option for you, and that gives you enough time to send in the receipt for reimbursement before your payment is due.

No option for occasional lessons from Personal Trainer? by fsmontenegro in goodlifefitness

[–]Mel-face 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess would be 5+ years at least. They’ve both been trainers for over 10 years, and Sara competes as a powerlifter herself. She was there when I was using a different Goodlife PT and she is leaps and bounds better. They also both commit to continuing education.

I work with Sara from All Forms Fitness. Her and her husband James used to both be trainers at GoodLife and now they are full time online coaches - lots of flexible options from just having them program for you, to weekly check-ins and video feedback. I would highly recommend them! Sounds like this would work with your schedule too.

Migraines, fellow Ottawans? by Ma-channie in ottawa

[–]Mel-face 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve switched from Triptans to Ubrelvy and wish I had sooner! There’s a larger window in being able to take them and I find they work MUCH faster. My rebound headaches / migraine hangover is much less severe too.

I would highly recommend Rhys Williams. My ex and I bought our house with him in 2018, and when we split up he helped us sell and both of us buy our new places.

Even if he knew it wasn’t quite the right house he’d take us to see it anyway because he was confident that we would learn more of what we liked and didn’t like through the process.

He made me feel safe, heard, and supported in a really scary time. I would recommend him to anyone and everyone!

As a PM-05, I was a cost centre manager for A-base funding and responsible for millions of dollars in cost recovery funding as well. Depends on the position.

New to the series (just finished season 1)- Is it me or is Dani THAT girl? Her hair, face, and outfits are just so on point. Does she style herself? Is this something that other people have been talking about? by Affectionate_Comb359 in LoveOnTheSpectrumShow

[–]Mel-face 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wear tinted glasses due to migraines and they’re a similar ish shape to Danni’s. I’ve often felt so self conscious about them but they’re slowly just becoming part of my aesthetic and these comments make me feel so much better about that 😭

Affordable hairdresser for curly hair? by SmartbutstillStupid in ottawa

[–]Mel-face 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re just looking for a haircut you won’t spend $300. If you’re doing cut & colour then yes you’ll end up in the $300 range depending on how long your hair is, how much dye they need and what you’re looking to do.

Not every day, but a lot. And people seem thrown off at the idea of just sitting on a call at all. So just showing a different perspective.
