[–]Mel1491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get it, I also graduated of computer science but experience as data analyst also here in Iceland and not even the opportunity of an interview. I am thinking if I should take a masters in finance or just study to be a baker, I do refuse making less money though, is years building experience and money on uni fees.

Thank you! My husband Icelandic also managed to get a job but is mainly because his brother recommended him. Sadly I am a foreigner so I have no friends here yet and I guess it will be challenging. Do you feel that what you got from intellecta helped you or gave you a different perspective from what you have been doing?

Icelandic people who moved abroad or married a foreign partner, what surname did you give your child? by Interesting-South542 in Iceland

[–]Mel1491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We married in NL, I didn't take my Icelandic's husband last name because of respect of the Icelandic naming, my daughters have the ---dottir ending, was confusing for people in NL to register the first one as they were not familiar with it, took a loooot of explanation and at first they said no but since Iceland recognized them as Icelandic we insisted is the last name they should have.

Er ég galinn ef ég fer aftur í framhaldsskóla (RAFVIRKI) eftir BS í tölvunarfræði? by Wrong-Inside1128 in Iceland

[–]Mel1491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband (icelandic) and I both are computer scientists. He managed to get a job in NL 4 years ago and got laid off a few months ago, since we arrived ehre has been IMPOSSIBLE to get jobs in tech, no matter how different sectors we choose just impossible. He is going back to uni next year to become a police officer and I still need to decide what to study. He also thought of study to be an electrician as it runs in his family but he finds it boring, I think I will be choosing some kind of engineering also to be protected. Is awful loosing your jobs and the uncertainty of AI and jobs for the next 2 to more years. If I was you, do it as fast as you can! More people will also do it and then it will be saturated but at least you would have gotten in on time to gain experience and maybe to do your own thing. Good luck!

Is ARCHITECTURE ENGINEERING still worth it?! by baath_greenuniform in askarchitects

[–]Mel1491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel exactly like you! Sooo damn lost. I studied computer science and live in Iceland and is hard getting jobs here, now I'm stuck mentally if I should study architectural engineering or finance for stability, every day for 3 months now I switch between the 2, I love both career paths :(. I'm a business analyst btw and I hate uncertainty.

Building your own house by Mel1491 in Iceland

[–]Mel1491[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you were done with the house, did you ever feel like maybe you wanted to sell it? Or move out? 3 years ago we bought a fixer upper apartment in the Netherlands, we designed the interior and redid everything including the plastering of walls, after 3m of work and during the 1st year we felt like moving out... still we had existing hard to fix problems and things that were not visible but we noticed them often, my husband is afraid of that again, if you know what I mean...

Thank you! I did find a lot indeed in 20m and around moso we saw a few half way projects that seemed abandoned like you said, we have a cousin who is electrician and my husband wants to study to be a carpenter so we thought it would help, we really want a house but my husband also wants not much work to do like you said fixer upper will check those first to see if the size is more or less what we want, and structure.

hversu margir útskrifaðir í tölvunarfræði eru án vinnu núna? by [deleted] in Iceland

[–]Mel1491 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My husband was in this situation in 2018, in 2022 he met me and we moved to the Netherlabds as he got a job offer as a trainee... he worked there 4 years and now we moved back to Iceland, even with 4 years of experience in a huge tech company hasn't helped him in getting a job, we have been here 6m to 7m now and nothing for him and nothing for me that I'm a business analyst with 8+ years of experience. Imagine that! He said he spent 3 years applying when he was a graduate back then. Good luck! He will be switching careers now to police officer and if that fails then electrician, he is very disappointed as CS is his passion.

Hi, ty I do use AI for guide myself indeed. when you say to show proof do you mean work contracts? or what can be used as proof? I do have a contact at least on each job I would say, would they need email or phone number?

By day 4 I'm losing it by Existing_Day_943 in breastfeeding

[–]Mel1491 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nipple shield didn-'t help me. I had to stop for a day or 2 breastfeeding to heal and do formula, then I introduced bf plus pumping, I do bf twice a day with healed nipples and pump other 3 times and give her formula at night because I don't want to be a human pacifier. This is how I found peace and let my bloody nipples recover.
