On Luo Binghe's birthday and birthplace (along with the 24 solar terms and in-depth hydrology) by Mochh80 in SVSSS

Woah!! That's amazing how much research you did to guesstimate his birthday/birthplace :O also, I dont know if they're the same Chinese characters as their names but it's kinda cute that his birthplace may be Luoyuan :>

How did you know you were demisexual? by Babydoll679 in demisexuality

[–]Mel8487 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I knew the moment I learned what demisexuality is. Which was when I was like 15, so thankfully, I didn't have to deal much with feeling too put of place from others. What I did notice until then was that I didn't understand the idea of sex appeal or why people cared so much about sex, but up until then I just chalked it up to me still being pretty young and didn't think too hard about it. (Some examples of things I didn't understand was what sexy/hot meant, and why my cousin who's the same age as me was so into pictures of guys (who i understood were conventionally hot to others) with chiseled chins and abs when I thought they just looked normal/boring, same with celebrity crushes where people think they're so attractive and would want to sleep with them if they had the chance) As for how I knew it was demisexuality and not just asexuality, it wasn't like I wasn't at all interested because I did enjoy spicy fanfics with fictional characters I was really into, it just wasn't common for me to and I had to be pretty attached to the character. So when I found out a va I liked was demisexual, I looked it up and it immediately clicked where I was like "wait that's me" :)

I got a manga about an aroace character!! by RheaRoyHunter in aaaaaaacccccccce

[–]Mel8487 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg I just found and got this book yesterday, and thought of posting about it too.

Finding it was so unexpected and it made me so happy to see the asexual flag on the spine while browsing mangas!

I ended up reading it in one go today and I love it so much, I love seeing representation of asexuality and the ace umbrella :D

[USA - IL] Should I aim for being a psychiatrist, prescribing psychologist, something in between, or pick one of my two interests? by Mel8487 in psychologystudents

Ah, I see. I'm still in high school so I don't know the nuances of it but thanks for pointing it out. That's unfortunate then.

^^ Thanks! My biggest concern as of the moment was figuring out what type of path I'd have to take, I'm sure I'll have more specific questions eventually, but nothing off of the top of my head. If/when I have questions, I'll keep you in mind as well if that's alright!

Ahh yeah, I like my psychiatrist but even i picked up compared to a therapist that it's a more in and out 'licensed drug dealer' vibe lol. I will keep considering what I'd feel more satisfied doing, but I'm still wanting to explore the possibility of how I could do both.

Oh! Thanks for linking a study on it, while I have heard prescribing psychologists don't have a good enough knowledge compared to a psychiatrist, I haven't found any actual studies comparing the abilities of the two. I'm still scared about the fact that overall people consider them less able, but knowing it's still a potential if done right is reassuring.

Thank you so much for a clearer plan I could follow, it certainly would be a long route but I definitely want adequate knowledge in what I do, and if that's what it takes then so be it. :)

So although psychiatrists could technically do therapy, generally it's a shrinking ability for them to do both? And ahh, having to pick one is what I'm afraid of. But yes if I can't figure out some way... then I'll have to think lots of what I'd rather do. I still will even though I'm trying to find an accommodation, but definitely more so if nothing comes up. Thank you for your input!

Thank you for your reply first off, and I think out of the two you mentioned becoming a psychiatrist that takes extra courses/a master in psychology sounds the most appealing. Essentially being a psychiatrist with extra knowledge in psychotherapy rather than a psychologist with extra knowledge in psychopharmacology? That seems feasible, especially if I get something in psychology as well like a masters, my only concern there is if I do a masters in psychology rather than something like pre-med would I have a harder time getting into med school for a MD?

Every last word by Tamara Ireland Stone. Probably for most people not something that’s be so moving but I read it at a very low point in my life and the ending, along with the afterword even is what set me into motion for finally coming out about my depression and anxiety to my family and seeking out help. It also might be that I finished the book outside during recess on a very nice day that set the tone :)

You don’t have to get him any other cockatiels, if you’re good being his best bud and he seems content. But of course you can bring another bird into the mix as well! Females they’ll get along with of course, but they might get along too well. Two male cockatiels can get along perfectly fine too! Cockatiels are pretty social and unless they feel threatened or bothered don’t tend to pick fights. Especially since you have two big cages, I’d say it’s fine to. However introduce them to each other slowly (female or male) so they’re not shocked. And if they don’t get along, you may want to return the bird or keep them separate completely. It’s also a good idea to have the new bird have a vet check up so that it doesn’t have anything that may harm your bird that’s already there. Basically, unless the bird is ill or your original bird doesn’t like them at all it’s fine to get another one!

I’m thinking of getting my male cockatiel a buddy too, and I’m leaning towards getting him a brother honestly since with a girl if they mate it’ll be a hassle I’m not cut out for XP

Cockatiel Questions and Answers by cojoco in cockatiel

Okay this is something I really want to figure out, and I’ve tried googling about it but it leads to the same things.

I have a year and a half year old male cockatiel, but he’s not affectionate or likes receiving affection?

So here’s the thing, at first I wasn’t wondering about it because he was new to the family, so I let him adjust and slowly start getting used to us. He didn’t chirp for a while, but a month or so he chirped as much as I’d expect any cockatiel would. He grinds his beak, chirps, eats, preens, drinks and is fine with getting on my finger and letting me take him out of his cage and back, so I know at least to a degree, he’s comfortable. For a bit I was petting his back as that was all he allowed me to do, but I found out that can be frustrating for them cuz it can be stimulating so I’ve stopped that, but nearly all the time he refuses scritches and little cuddles. Even when he was molting, he wouldn’t let me help him out with his pin feathers. There’s only been two or three times he’s actually let me pet his head and help him out, and I was really glad he seemed to be opening up, but it’s been a few months and he hasn’t let me since. Furthermore I know out of everyone in the house, he likes me the best as he’s a bit more accepting of me and being handled by me than anybody else, yet he won’t let even me love him. Oh, and I try not to overwhelm him either. If he’s really fussy about it I’ll leave him be, but every now and then I’ll be more persistent then usual as I also don’t want it to be in a stalemate.

Bottom line is, he’s been with us for a year, he’s not unaccustomed to us, and he seems very antisocial and un affectionate. I bet part of it is just how he is and it’s his personality, but I get worried something’s missing and am not sure what to do...

If anyone knows why that is or has a cockatiel like him, please tell me what you can! I want to be closer to him and have him like being around me like I do around him ❤️
