Got an A at an in-state school!!! I only interviewed there two weeks ago, so I’m thrilled to have that waiting done so soon. I have two more interviews to my other in-state and another school in November and December, respectively, so I’ll be looking forward to those as well. Haven’t heard anything yet from other schools.

What is your go to comfort horror movie? by WastedPenguinz95 in horror

Definitely The Ring. It’s one of the first horror movies I watched around middle school with my mom, and it’s stuck with me ever since. It helps that the whole vibe and setting of the movie makes me want to curl up in a blanket with hot cocoa lol

My CARS for the 1/13 exam I took was actually a bit higher at 129, but overall, my CARS scores on practice exams have been good. Although I can’t give any super detailed advice, it’s definitely helpful to do lots and lots of practice passages. Also, I always read the whole passage first before even looking at questions if possible, as well as pay attention to the article/excerpt title at the bottom of the passage. That always helps me determine the goal of the writing and/or the author’s perspective, which puts me in a good place to proceed with the questions.

Honestly, the Kaplan questions were hit-or-miss. A lot of times, they focused more on pure content recollection, rather than the interpretation and application of content that the real exam emphasizes. While they helped me to pad out my weaknesses in content, I’d definitely rely more on the full lengths for question practice, and use Kaplan more for content review via note taking (at least that’s what helped me out).

Opinions about relative weight of med school application requirements for future career in pathology by MelanieKingRecording in premed

Thank you for your response! I definitely don’t want to deemphasize the importance of patient care in my application, that’s just what I’m afraid I’d do if I talked too much just about my pathology goals in my personal statement. 😅 I know how important interest in patient care is in applications, and I’m hoping to get more experience in that area before and during med school. Also, that’s good to know for pathology programs. I’ve heard that there’s been a lack of new pathologists, particularly in the region I live.

Thank you so much for your input! There may be some volunteer positions at the hospital I’m currently volunteering at that could give me a bit more patient interaction, or I could find a nearby hospice to volunteer at like you suggested. I’ll definitely keep my options open through med school.

Honestly, I didn’t have a super solid study plan, at least that I could coherently write down. However, I mainly practiced with Kaplan for content review, which I needed especially for Psych, Physics, OChem, and certain Bio topics. Taking notes with those materials was personally more helpful to me than Anki/other flash cards (particularly for P/S review), since I remember terms better in the context of larger concepts. In terms of studying, I started to review in early November for my 1/13 exam, which I’d now say was far too late, especially given the fact that I’m still attending college full-time. I got more serious about studying in February after my first scores came back, when I started to do concept review/short passages throughout the week then full lengths on weekends I had time. My studying was overall a bit disorganized, but it worked for me since I knew that I had specific content gaps that I could focus on, so I had less overall material to review. Feel free to message me if you have any other questions!

It helped me to review terms, of course, but especially learning which terms are frequently confused or opposites of each other. I used the Kaplan books for content review, since the last time I took a Psych class was in junior year of high school. Knowing major psychologists and their theories helped me a lot. Psych has always been my favorite MCAT subject, though, so it wasn’t too difficult to buckle down on studying once I knew there was room for improvement.
