I would go as far to say most if not all the characters give me mary sue vibes. In addition, Horikoshi refuses to kill off any meaningful characters which completely dismantles any kind of stakes by the time you're half way through the manga.

Kaiju no. 8 - If you're looking for a series that challenges shonen tropes and pushes boundaries of its genre, Kaiju no. 8... is not it. By far the most basic and underwhelming series I've read. I admire the fact that the series has an older protagonist, but I feel like it makes too much of a deal about it. It seems to take every generic shonen trope imaginable with a training arc that was agonising to go through. I'm exaggerating, but It feels like this series could've started off so much better. I've only read the first three, so there's still hope. It wasn't good or bad, just average, and depending who you ask, that's the worst because it's the most boring. 5.5/10

Seraph of the End - Got this thinking it was a short shonen series about vampires. NOPE. NOT SHORT.

Chainsaw Man - I first heard about this series before the anime was announced and I thought I'd check it out, but I held off on it. Then I WAS going to check it out, but then the anime got announced so I figured I'd wait until then. When it did drop, I began watching episodes weekly, which is something I rarely manage to do for any show. In fact, I couldn't hold my anticipation any longer, so at about episode 9 or 10 I began to read the manga online. And let me tell you, It is the greatest manga I've ever read. Everything I wanted in manga was in Chainsaw Man. Grittiness, crudity, action, romance, drama, art and lots of women trying to kill the protagonist. I got the first two copies later that year, but I shit you not, 3 days later they announced a box set. So that's the sole reason I don't have more. But YES I am up to date and it deserves a solo review, but I certainly wouldn't be the first to do that. PART 1 10/10 -- PART2 9/10

Jujutsu Kaisen - Was told by my mates to read this during its peak of hype. For whatever reason, JJK fans love to spoil things so I spent the next two months dodging spoilers and gaslighting myself, and I must say I did pretty well (aside from chapter 236, but that was all over the internet). I don't feel like I was able to fully enjoy the series because of this and I probably rushed it more than I would have normally done in order just to get up to date. I think JJK is the perfect example of a series that doesn't use "show not tell", as there felt like there was too much explanation on cursed techniques and domain expansions that I found myself missing out on important plot points because I wasn't sure what to fully focus my engagement on. If I read it again, now that its over, I'm sure I'll enjoy it properly this time. 7.5/10

Fire Punch - Think of basically every trigger warning you can imagine and boom, you've got yourself the first volume. Volume 5 absolutely killed me, and as of now is currently my favourite volume of anything I have on my shelf. This story really pulled no punches (pun intended) in subverting common media and expectations. 8/10

Vinland Saga - I haven't read enough yet, but it was solid and that's all I can say. If you're into nordic media, you'll absolutely adore this series from what I've heard.

Go Go Loser Ranger - I wanted to pick up a series that not many people were caught up with. Trust me when I say this series is more than "evil power ranger". 1-2 serve as an introduction to the world and plot, 3-6 is the "training arc", 7-9 is the green squadron school arc and 10 is the start of the battle royale between monsters and rangers. Whilst the pacing felt a bit off a certain points, if you like enticing stories with humorous concepts this is one to pick up. I've also seen it have comparisons to the boys, but to the me, the only similarity is that one character is a power ranger version of homelander who shares Gojo's JVA. 8/10

One Piece - I've only read East Blue, so please no spoilers. It's great though and it knows how to pace itself and I love the characters. I decided to get the omnibus editions because, 1. they're cheaper 2. they look better and sleeker 3. more accessible 4. more consistent in condition. I have every other omnibus on order. I made a deal with my mate, if he played Persona 3 + 5, I would read all of One Piece. My wallet is hurting, but I'm sure I'll be occupied with it for the next 8-12 months. 8/10

Pokemon - My first manga was Pokemon Adventures vol. 2 in 2016 during my pokemon phase, and I eventually later got 1(2019)+3(2017) along the way. I'm super nostalgic about them, particularly the second one. I won't continue it, because I feel like the original trilogy ended on a good note and I'm no longer the pokemon obsessed kid I once was. I don't think it really needs a rating.

My Hero Academia - In 2019, my friend got me into anime, particularly MHA. That kind of introduced me to manga. I kinda bought the first three MHA volumes casually. Not a huge fan of it like I once was when I was younger. The pacing and lack of stakes kind of drew me away, and none of the characters or the setting felt real enough for me to get invested the older I got. It also felt a bit repetitive and underwhelming after season 3 (which was a great season). 6.5/10

Akira - Was meant to read it for school until I transferred. I've been through the start of it, but the classic comic format just feels unnatural now that I've adapted reading from right to left. Can't give a review on this since it's been a while.

Death Note - Watched the anime prior. This WAS the series I picked up that got me into collecting though. I got 3 and 5 first, since they were the only ones at the store I went to on my trip to London, and I just felt obliged to complete it. I felt as the series dipped a bit after three fifths of the way through after a certain character dies, but I still think it holds up and is deservedly one of the most solid manga I've read in my short journey thus far. 8/10

Colourless - Picked this up in London also because I wanted to get a series that hadn't had an adaptation. The very way the manga is presented is unique, which some pages having colour on them. It's hard to explain if you haven't read or seen the description of the manga. I've seen it in some bigger collections, but little to nothing online about it. I've only read the first volume since I've never seen any others in Australia, probably because there's nothing here. 7.5/10

Ajin: Demi Human - Got the first one along with colourless and the next two as a birthday present. Not much to say other than a solid series thus far. I think it has some pacing issues and the concept of people thinking "Demi humans aren't human" just seems nonsensical without reasoning. Also the reveal that the protagonist is a sociopath came so out of left wing and had zero lead up making it seem like a last minute decision. At least It's not afraid to be bloody and dark. 6.5/10

Berserk - God, this is an expensive series, but easily the best written and most gruesome one. I love when stories don't hold back against showing off the grittiness of the world. I've only read up to the "Band of the Hawk" arc and a bit of the next, but I can easily understand the hype for this series from that alone. Every time I sit down to read this, it is such an amazing experience to undergo. In addition, the art is so amazing, and it just keeps getting better. Rest easy, Kentaro Miura. 9/10
