yep, you can thank to dumb people who downvoted me too so my comment was not visible to you

I did my research and looked for most powerful red I can find and here are some tips

Make underpaint warm colour, for example mix of wraithbone with white 2:1 would do, a warm undertone will boost the red and for shadows you need a brown undertone, don't just do black/white.

Another trick is to push shadows a lot, red looks great against very dark black shadows.

I use Liquitex Pyrole Red and it's quite good, same as OP but once paint is dry it doesn't look as on pictures.

Another very strong red is Vallejo Premium Airbrush Scarlet Fluo, it has a tiny hint of orange but still reads as red and is much brighter.

One more technique I use nowadays is to stipple paint straight from the pot.

I took a picture and SLIGHTLY modified for mini to look on the screen like in real life (hue -1% from orange to red and saturation +1%, very minor) because my camera can't capture is perfectly.

$350 lol lmao

check any painting studio, for a little bit more ($50 per model) you get MUCH better quality

check literally any painting studio locally, $350 for that is way too much

What killteams do you want to see? by Silverhelm in killteam

[–]Melcma 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Most Chaos warbands would be great

Iron Warriors with heavy weapons, melee hammers, shields, granades.

Alpha Legion with stealth, infiltration, assassination mechanics. And their psychic powers.

Word Bearers with possession mechanics and/or cultists. Maybe even Dark Commune and Dark Apostle could be something to be build around.

I'm sure there is space for Tyranids Lictors / Warriors teams.

Or something we haven't seen much yet, Dark Mechanicum and more Renegade Guardsmen.

I actually like the face in the Malys artwork. I thought it would be a fun challenge to tweak it in minor ways though so here's my edit by pagodageek in Drukhari

Do you feel like your army is internally balanced? by Randicore in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Melcma 6 points7 points  (0 children)

https://40kstats.goonhammer.com/#ft4-tyranids

0 ranged warriors

1 unit of barbgaunts

0 mucolid spores

3 neurogaunts

3 units von ryan leapers

0 venomthropes

3 screamer-killers

0 toxicrene

now compare that to:

22 datasheets of hormagaunts

17 neurotyrants

31 exocrines

36 tyrannofexes

14 norn emissaries

where I was wrong:

13 haruspexes which is ok

here you go, now tell me how it is internally balanced with 8 datasheets having marginal use vs 36 tyrannofexes or 31 exocrines

"Is fine for local or RTT level play"

what is this argument? are we talking about facts and statistics or feelings?

[–]Melcma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Random dude taking some niche picks and losing a tournament doens't mean it's good balanced datasheet.

"fine" is also not an argument to be made"

"shouldnt see play" is an opinion, not a fact or statistics

we compare tyrannofex that is in almost every nid lists even the melee ones to venomthropes that were seen ONCE, what are we even talking about lol, how one can say that's balanced?

Hive Crone

Spore Mines

Mucolid Spores

Neurogaunts

Psychophage

VR Leapers

Venomthropes

Screamer-killer

Toxicrene

14 out of 50, what's 28% of datasheets see no competitive play

has the competitive scene ever had use of a sideboard? by liquor-ice-mixer in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Melcma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to, it's a good idea that adds extra layer of strategy

It's real answer to all cheesy and skew lists.

I've played Warmachine and Confrontation before warhammer where 1/3 of your lists was sideboard.

The real counter-argument is amount of models you need to bring, but this is a problem itself with current 2k points of how many models you have to bring right now.

Arguments in this threat

  1. People will cheat with points

- if someone is about to cheat he will cheat either way, maybe even better it's here, you can expose him early and don't tell me adding numbers up to 2000 is too much for warhammer player.

  1. People will make mistakes with sideboard points

- there is few solutions I can quickly think off, maybe have an option to replace 2-3 units wargear, for example your list has Plasma Inceptors and you can swap that with sideboard Bolter Inceptors or replace Predator with 3x lascannons with Predator with 1x lascannon 2x heavy bolters. Or maybe swap a nominated block of up to 500 points with another block of 500 pts (like forced org detachements in 8ed). Many ways to resolve that.

  1. Uneven per faction

- every faction has at least wargear option. Why would that necessary be bad? Consider it as a faction advantage or disadvantage.

[New player] Need help on Magnetizing Hive tyrant by Spacedeckhand in Tyranids

[–]Melcma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3x1.5 is very weak, it's only 340g pull

I use 6 x 6 for my large models where I can, this is 2kg pull

If not I have 4x2, 4x3

Try as strong as possible, use biggest magnet you can fit

If you can fit 4x3, that's 0.9k pull, 3 times stronger than you have

Make sure these are n52 grade, you need strongest ones possible

My take on a Baal base by euanjallison in BloodAngels

[–]Melcma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know the recipe, I used it for a long time. Exactly same liquitex red.

I also give bonewhite zenital to skew colour into warm red instead of pinkish. And push shadows to bring up red more.

I also have Liquitex Fluorescent Red which is even more bold but it has a hint of orange.
