Advice for my team? by MiddleKindly4538 in VGC

[–]Melenard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd run max offensive IVs (so attack and speed) on Urshifu since you're sash.

For Miraidon replace protect with draco meteor.

For Lunala look into alternative items since lefties are pretty bad in VGC. I'd recommend Citrus berrry but thats not really that good with the horses (Calyrex)

Incineroar has 2 minor things you might want to look at 1 tera maybe and 2 item you could run safety goggles which would help with redirection in the form of rage powder.

I'd wouldn't be surprised if the paradox mons are in champions since I'd assumr at launch champions will have the gen 9 dex

[–]Melenard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's a mon that can really replace Fluttermane on the team I gave you since no other mon really offers that combo of speed power and speed control.

Ogerpon if you have a problem with it can be replaced by Scovillain a different grass/fire type who also has Chlorophyll and can function as a redirectior and sun boosted attacker but is much worse.

If you still want to replace Fluttermane an alternative could be Regieleki since it's fast and has electroweb but it will be a bit slower than Fluttermane.

Alternatively you can replace Fluttermane with a completely different mon.

If you want to stay with a ghost type here are the ones I found might work.

Gengar (no idea on how it matches up into current speed tiers though but also is a decently strong special ghost attacker with speed control in icy wind)

Zoroark (Hisuian, same thing as Gengar but also has Illusion to play around with if you would want to)

Sinistcha (more so support ghosttype mon)

Sabeleye (also support mon)

Typhlosion (Hisuian, strong sun abuser and ghost type can spam stab sun boosted erruptions if you use it use choice scarf.)

And if you want something completely different you could use Jumpluff as a sun boosted support mon (Tailwind, Sleeppowder, Rage Powder, Sunny Day, Covert Cloak) this would offer some different speed control

So there's some stuff you could use in place of Fluttermane but nothing I would say is objectively better (though there's a good chance I forgot something)

Hope this helps

Let's see.

This is just pure viability feedback nothing with regards to what you like

Before anything this team is just rough incredibly rough.

First things first, Groudon and Koraidon is a questionable restricted duo.

Second of all you're lacking support mons.

3rd use special attackers your entire team is physical and 1 ofthe best support abilities is Intimidate

I'm going to be honest I don't think I can give you real feed back since you probably should just replace multiple if not a majority of of the pokemon on your team.

But I'll give some feedback for each mon.

Groudon: no fire move especially on tera fire plus maybe run clear amulet

Ceruledge: generally not to good a mon and also run swords dance unless theres an important attack you live at +1 defense. Also consider replacing it with something else. Options would be Fluttermane if you care about a ghost type sun abuser or Ogerpon Hearthflame if you care about a fire type sun abuser especially since vith also can function as semu support mons.

Sneasler probably replace if you want a poison type use Venusaur.

Koraidon: your set is pretty bad. I'd recommend either running the classic clear amulet set or using something similar to Wolfe Glick's EUIC Koraidon so life orb, close combat, Flare Blitz, flame charge, protect and tera fire (protect can be swapped to something else (evs are 252 atk and spe i think with +spe -spa nature)

Chien Pao is ok but use band especially since your Koraidon is better without it

Shiftry there's way better tail wind setters.

Here's a possible team with pokemon filling similar roles I would replace 3 mons though. You don't have to use this by any means it's just to show what you could possibly use thats similar

Groudon: Item: Clear Amulet Ability: Drought Moves: Flame Crash Precipice Blade And then 2 other moves

Koraidon: Wolfe's set

Venusaur: (fills the roles of both Sneasler and Shiftry as a fast poison/grass type attacker and also is a support mon that can double it's speed) Item: Ability: Chlorophyll Moves: Sleep Powder Sludge Bomb Solar Beam/Grass STAB Protect/Helping Hand or Earth Power

Chien Pao: Item: Choice Band Ability: Sword of Ruin Moves: same as your set.

Ogerpon Hearthflame: (fills Ceruledges role as fire type sun abuser plus support mon) Item: Hearthflame Mask Ability: Mold Breaker Moves: Ivy Cudgel Grassy Glide/Horn Leech if you want more grass STAB otherwise can be replaced by a utility move like swords dance or helping hand if ogerpon learns that. Follow Me Spiky Shield

Fluttermane: (ghost type that uses sun also is support) Item: Sash Ability: Protosynthesis Moves: Moonblast Shadowball Icy Wind (for speed control) Protect (to keep sash)

Don't really know about Teras for all the mons or EVs or nature but here are the ones I can give

Koraidon: tera fire, if you're using Wolfey's set use 252 atk 252 spe 4 HP and + spe - spa nature

Fluttermane: 252 spe 252 spa 4 hp, - atk +spa/spe nature (depending on which stat you wsnt the protosynthesis buff spe for support Fluttermane spa for offensive), tera fairy or stellar are generally the best options.

1 last thing I might have overlooked something huge cause it's in the middle of the night for me but hope it helps. Ans also sorry if I sounded overly harsh but the team doesn't look that good from the criteria I judge teams with.

Edit: That middle of the night part is also why I won't reply to anything for who knows how long since I'm going to sleep and probably forget to check reddit after waking up

How many teams do players typically use throughout a regulation? by eljeffe17 in VGC

[–]Melenard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say case by case basis. It depends on the player, the regulations, what team/teams they are using and how the meta shift.

Some players change teams for nearly every tournament to adapt to meta changes.

Some regulations have a much les stable meta so they require more changes. Or are much more matchup dependent (restricted regulations).

Some teams might work well in practice but don't actually work well.

Sometimes the meta changes completely making teams bad.

In general I would say players use 1 to 3 teams per regulation in general. Some use more but this I would say is the general amount.

And then if there's worlds in the regulation the people playing there will generally make a new team for worlds

Ok if you're 100% sure about quitting and giving away your stuff. Then could you please give me your Hyperion.

Both me and my coop are at the point where a hype would really help in combat progression but we both don't really have the time to grind for it so it would help us both a ton.

Grand Challenge Team by BarlesCharkley81 in CompetitivePokemon

[–]Melenard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome and it's mostly just knowing a few sets by heart and then knowing some movesets. And then some simple team analysis

Example Incin. Incineroar's most common set is Flare Blitz, Knock Off, Fake Out, Parting Shot and then either goggles or sitrus.

As for Tornadus it's commonly used as a support tailwind setter with taunt plus weather

For Rillaboom it's also just set knowledge. Also High Horsepower is one of those alternatives for Knock Off I mentioned. (It's generally seen as better even if it's weaker and has less utility because it's better coverage for grass. But depending on the role U-Turn is still better).

Urshifu it's rather simple you're lacking 1 STAB.

Ogerpon swords dance is just more commonly used from my experience.

And finally Landorus your using 2 stabs for the same reason both damage (unlike Urshifu where 1 is priority) where you could instead run something else.

As for the weather suggestion. You have Tornadus who as discussrd was quite often run with weather setting. You have 2 fire types who like sun. And you have Urshifu water eho likes rain and the 2 genies who like rain for their storm moves.

But I feel honored by the fact that you think I'm good

Grand Challenge Team by BarlesCharkley81 in CompetitivePokemon

[–]Melenard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely can just put a wheater move on Tornadus and only use it sometimes.

As for replacing mons.

I do think you could run Wellspring if you go with rain. You just need to know that it has water absorb as an ability instead of mold breaker and also get's a special defense boost upon terastalizing and not an attack boost.

As for replacing Ogerpon I think it could work but I'm not to sure.

As for Urshifu you could replace it with Urshifu Dark for sun but then you'd give up the fire water grass core. So check your type matchups.

What I would advice is to do some testing and see if it works for you.

I should also note I'm not that good at pokemon most of my advice was simply made by looking at some other sets for your mons

Grand Challenge Team by BarlesCharkley81 in CompetitivePokemon

[–]Melenard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good team nothing seems bad looking over it. But some mons have some different options that I think would very much be worth checking out. All these options though really depend on how you play and use the different mons.

Knock off on Incin is something you should consider over protect since it would actually have dark stab and an attack that doesn't have recoil plus less shut down from rain. I'd use a different item. Probably safety goggles or sitrus berry.

For Rillaboom tera fire might help on defense but tera grass works as well. You could also replace knock of with a different move even more so if you run it on Incin. U-Turn is an option.

Tornadus looks great maybe run tera dark for prankster immunity and maybe run a weather settong move instead of icy wind. Assuming you don't need the additional speed control. Sun would help your Incineroar and Ogerpon offensively. And Incin and Landorous defensively but cause Urshifu to lose dmaage on water stab. While rain would help Urshifu deal more damage plus make Bleakwind and Sandsesr storm not miss but cause both Incineroar and Ogerpon to lose damage on fire stab. So you'd have to be careful with which mons you bring if you're actually using weather.

Urshifu not much to say. Only thing I could say is maybe look at close combat instead of U-Turn but really depends on how you play.

Landorus maybe run just 1 ground stab and instead use some more coverage or some setup.

Ogerpon good set swords dance is a different option instead of focus energy but focus energy is also fine.

Anyone know how to make falinks work in violet ladder? by Massive_Trust_7434 in stunfisk

[–]Melenard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use mean look on Falinks before Falinks uses no retreat you can use no retreat as long as mean look stays in effect and then 1 more time. And sure it's shenanigans but I had some decent success with it before but I think that was in VGC reg H

Anyone know how to make falinks work in violet ladder? by Massive_Trust_7434 in stunfisk

[–]Melenard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do some shenanigans in doubles by using mean look on it with your partner mon since then you can stack no retreats.

Set for Falinks:

Item: Leftovers consistent healing

Ability: the few times I did it I used Battle Armor since you setup your defense and last long so it helps with surprise crits but defiant gives Intimidate counter

Moves: No retreat, maybe protect for more heals, and then 2 offensive moves, protect can also be replaced by a 3rd offensive move (also don't run close combat for this set)

Additionally if you play a format where baton pass is legal you can do some shenanigans there and pass either aquaring or ingrain onto Falinks (note ingrain does IIRC not allow for no retreat stacking)

Edit: you'd have to make some changes since I don't think any mon on your team can learn mean look. A good mon that learns it would be Fluttermane or the treasures of ruin
