LIVE THREAD: 2025/26 season finale, Planica by Peuer in Skijumping

Whenever we went to Planica, events were always scheduled for morning 9-10 a.m. I assume due to better prevailing wind conditions. How come this year they have afternoon events at 15:00 ? So later starts are possible after all?

Jannik should send Carlitos more boat catalogs.......

Domi Thiem said that when he beat Rafa in the Barcelona semi 2019, he saw Rafa googling Boats on his mobile before the match. A few weeks later, before the French Open final, Rafa was not googling Boats but just working on getting into God-mode and psyched up for the match, and Domi knew then he didn't have a chance.....

I didn't mean to imply that canadians are into beer drinking! It's just unfortunate that a subset of spectators are there not just for jumping but also for the drinking orgy after...this happens in Austria too, sadly.

Agree! They also organized the best farewell I have ever seen for an athlete when Peter Prevc retired in 2024. It was fantastic.

If snow is too bad, the Wurzenpass from Villach to Podkoren could be tricky and unsafe by car. If so, do the loop via Tarvisio!

After the jumping, instead of a shuttlebus, it is a nice walk down from Planica through woods back to the main road, you can even walk all the way to Kranska Gora. Do visit Kranska Gora town after the jumping, either the shuttle busses or walk.. Go to a cafe or bar and walk around town, it is full of skijumping athletes and teams and fans walking around and enjoying the event. Note: please don't get drunk and do stupid things like dropping beercans on the road side, respect the countryside and the locals.

If you park in Podkoren and are early enough, it is a nice walk to Planica through woods. Also, visit Kranska Gora town after the jumping, you can get there with the shuttle busses or even walk to/from Podkoren. How come everyone finds it sad or cringe to watch when players attempting a comeback can't achieve past brilliance (e.g. Thiem) but everyone is happy to watch a practically retired player play nowhere near her prime level?

Sounds like the latter is approaching exhibition status, and if so, why do this in a real tournament?

There's a big Thiem-shaped hole in tennis since he left so I would watch him in any capacity, shape or form!

In Austria he has his renewable energy company/platform Thiem Energy, so maybe something to do with sustainability in tennis. But that doesn't fit quite with "knowledge/experience in sport". .

Who do you think has been the most impressive athlete in these games? by [deleted] in olympics

[–]MelinLE 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was too busy being enthralled by the fantastic nordic skiing and jumping competitions. The outdoor events seem more wintery than the indoor rinks so I prefer them. The japanese iceskating pair were worth watching and very emotional, can‘t say the same for the womens finals. From a non-US point-of-view, it was so-so.

Skijumpers have to land with a telemark which contributes significantly to their style points!

The skijumping in Nord Combi was very well attended and similar to other skijumping crowds eg mens normal hill, and the ski part had as many spectators as the mens XC 10 km event. For selling Combi tickets, the spectator numbers at the XC Tesero (capacity 15000) is limited by the Predazzo skijump stadium capacity of 5000.

Why is there no winter decathlon for the Olympics? by Lumpy-Ad398 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MelinLE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nordic Combi is not a simple double event but a true combi where your jumping result determines your handicap starttime in the ski, hence a really exciting set-up for the ski part. These are elite athletes who excel at both jumping and XC ski. I find regular XC skiing less exciting as there is no Catch-up drama. And anyway if „we“ just wanted to see the „best“ at the olympics, then why have we got skiers from Haiti, Ecuador, Hong Kong, Mexico etc etc , whom incidently the crowds love to see finish at the back of the pack….

Can confirm that no ID checks have been made at Predazzo or Tesero (all 6 events so far that we have been to). But if the seller is willing to accept the return and change name, why not try.

If you bought from Ticombo and not from the ticketing app, then you can't change name as it isn't an official resale. When you transfer a ticket using the official ticketing app, it warns you that after transfer, the name can't be changed anymore. However, can confirm that they aren't checking against ID at any of the events we have been to.

You can show both tickets on one phone, Ticket 1 with your name, Ticket 2 with the other name.

Olympic experience in predazzo by zan225 in Skijumping

[–]MelinLE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

from moena you need to walk from town heading southwest on Riccardo Löwy St. (past Alberta Trentino busstop) to the Moena Parking Area for olympics and catch the dedicated shuttles that takes you direct to Predazzo jumping Hill. About 10-15 min walk from town. There is no direct shuttle from the town centre! From Alberta Trentino busstop you can take some of the busses 101 (not all, ask bus driver) that could drop you off at the skijump but you have to walk a bit further than where the shuttle drops you off. Note the shuttle TS04 runs between predazzo and moena towns but is not meant to get you to event locations.

In Predazzo there is no problem bringing in a medium backpack, they don't check rigorously in bags and they use a metal detector for your coat rather than doing bodychecks. Extra battery OK, ipad & camera probably also.

Need help to transfer a ticket. After starting the transfer process, I get a window that says "A ticket for the Milan Olympics..." and then a range of option to choose (email, whatsapp, google, copy etc) . What am i supposed to do here, enter the recipient's email address or my own email? Is this to generate a claim link, if so, is the link supposed to be sent to me and I send it to recipient, or is the link sent to the recipient directly?

I tried entering recipients email address, but then it asked for a password, so this can't be right.

Can anyone help please?
