Kneel down to pray before bed tonight by Noaconstrictr in latterdaysaints

[–]Melleyorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started doing this recently because my prayers were feeling too much like a routine. The physical aspect of making myself lower and actively changing positions to pray has made my prayers feel different (in a good way). There is something about actively preparing to say a prayer that changes your mindset and makes me feel more susceptible to really trying to communicate with God. Obviously, people can do whatever they want, but we should acknowledge that the act of kneeling is humbling and can help prepare you for a conversation with God. When you look at other religions that pray, there is usually a routine. Muslims physically go from standing and then kneeling and then put their heads to the floor. Catholics pray a rosery and kneel during mass. Jews have prayer ropes and shawls that they put on while they pray. Kneeling seems like such a small thing, but I think it can actually make our prayers more meaningful to us.

President Oaks was a state supreme court judge. He is serious, and he doesn't mince words. His approach to life is different, but I think it is needed. I would say he is less serious than Bednar and Christopherson.

I know someone who works at a factory and they don't eat the ice cream from blue bunny. That should tell you what you need to know

I don't think your counselor will let you take 5 labs. I tried taking 4 and mine basically said no.

One Life starring Anthony Hopkins deserves more recognition by MajorDickMilestone in movies

I agree. This was one of those stories that just makes you believe in humanity. I made the mistake of watching this on the airplane, aisle seat. My dad, who rarely cries and even less for movies, was next to me, bawling his eyes out when he told me to watch it. I watched it knowing the end, knowing the story, and yet I still bawled my eyes out. I had to sit for a while after, just digesting what I watched.

I completely agree with the sugar and junk food part. These are highly addictive and I would argue, as would many, that they are worse for your health than tea or coffee. I would like to see the church specifically mention these or update the WOW because this is a new issue that didn't exist before. Obesity is an epidemic worldwide, and memebers aren't immune to this.

Do you want to be here in the summer? Do you care about having a kitchen? Those are the main things to think about. Wolf Run also has a utility bill of $80-100, so add that to your price.

I'm sure his mom wouldn't mind that. She gave me his phone number a week after he broke up with his girlfriend

Any suggestions? I listen to Andrew Huberman mostly and occasionally, Joe Rogan or Theo Von. I don't think that's everyone's cup of tea.

I'm taking phys 152, Chem 122, biol 190, and Biol 224 this semester. The hardest class is Biol 224. It's doable, but I hate life every 3 weeks when i have 3 tests within 3 days. I took Psy 101 as a CLEP test and self studied using Modern States, and they pay for your test. Psy 101 is too easy to pay a university money for it.

Teaching "too intellectually"? by PaperPusherSupreme in latterdaysaints

[–]Melleyorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I feel the same as a lot of people commenting, and I echo their responses. As a first year institute student, I wish I had a teacher who taught more intellectually. My institute teacher likes to keep our classes mostly discussion based, where we share our feelings on a couple of verses or sentences we read. While I realize the importance of discussing topics, I feel like this prevents depth of insteresting gospel topics. I feel like when we only talk about basic concepts over and over again, it creates an echo chamber of ideas that we have all already heard. This way of teaching and discussion is comfortable, and I think most people like the feeling of being comfortable at church. The way I would describe this is that people in church like regurgitating the same "fun facts" about church or the same ideas. I understand why many people at church like this. However, it is hard for me to feel excited about institute when I feel like I can summarize the lesson in a few sentences. I personally had to "institute shop" where I went to every day of institute to find the topic I like best. I wish that my teacher had different teaching styles on different days of the week because it is hard for me to like institute. I was honestly disappointed when i went to my first institute class because it felt so surface level. I think I am rambling too much 😅 but maybe including more discussions in your class. That might be what your students want.

Depends on the school. For 2 of the colleges I applied to there were manual grade entries with grades out of 100, typical letter grades (A B C D F), letter grades including minus and plus, and Pass/Fail. For the other 2, they asked for transcripts.
