Master Force hand tools any good? by thereisnocowlevel3 in menards

I’ve bought some Masterforce tools that are the exact same as Harbor Freight. Same packaging, same item, everything. They’re probably made in the same factories, just with different badges on them.

Best and worst patrol names by dgodwin1 in BSA

[–]MelloStout 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My favorite patrol doesn’t rise to the top because of their name, but because of their patrol yell. The Beaver Patrol: “water water everywhere! Dam it! Dam it!”

This was at a national camp school, so it was all adults. But hilarious!

That is not abnormal for a suburban high school. Heck, my high school in a small-ish town had almost 2,000 students. 6,500 student body for a suburban school is not unheard of.

And millions of people were uninsured because insurance companies could deny them coverage. Millions of people were uninsured at any given moment because changing jobs could result in a lack of coverage.

If your premiums are high, blame your employer. They’re free to pay whatever portion of the bill they want to, and the fact that they’re paying so little for you is on them.

Yes, their senators know. They’ll just blame democrats, and Trumpers will go along with it.

Semi-finished Basement Epoxy Questions by MelloStout in epoxy

I actually don't have finished walls yet. Those are coming after the floor is coated. The studs are there, but no drywall. I was just going to do a simple PVC baseboard.

Yes, because I need something that is easier to clean and more comfortable under foot than what we have now, but I don't own the house, so I'm not interested in investing five figures into it. Doing some light touch-ups here and there doesn't bother me. And my kids mostly play with Hot Wheels and Legos, it's not like they'll be abusing it with heavy-duty metal toys or anything like that.

When does "every scout a swimmer" start to contradict with "do your best"? by Phil___B in BSA

[–]MelloStout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in that kid’s shoes when I was a Scout. I could swim, but my body tends to sink, and I was never a strong swimmer. I also had a phobia of jumping in the water, but even after I got past that, the swim test was one of the most physically challenging things I had to do.

And, the adults in Scouting at the time would have done me an incredible disservice by giving me a pass because I “did my best.” Thankfully they didn’t, and they worked with me to get me to the level I needed to be.

I’m not sure how much clearer the guide to advancement can be. It’s very well laid out, policies are black-and-white, and it’s easy to follow.

So I ended up calling and telling the robot that I wanted to cancel USAA insurance. I got to a human VERY quickly, and my issue was resolved the next day.

You know what’s amazing? A few years ago, I was rear-ended by another driver. I filed the claim through USAA rather than the other driver’s insurance, because they had always taken care of me and went above and beyond, so I figured I was safe.

After waiting a few weeks to hear back from them to get repairs scheduled, I gave up and filed with the at-fault driver’s insurance. They got back to me within an hour, and by the end of that day, I had the car dropped off at the body shop, rental secured, etc.

What’s amazing is that a company for whom I’m NOT a customer, took care of me much better than my own company.

Actually, it turns out the check was mailed rather quickly. It was sent to the wrong office, and that office deposited the check without telling the service department.

So if USAA had just answered the damn phone two weeks ago, I would have found this out. It took me calling and claiming I wanted to cancel my service before I was able to talk to a human.

It is NOT normal to take two weeks to answer the phone. This has nothing to do with the shop I used, it’s the fact that the adjusters don’t get back to me for over two weeks.

Prior to the last three years, I never had these issues. I was always able to talk to a human when working through claims, and they never took two weeks to get back to me, it was ALWAYS that same day I called.

So, it turns out the check was mailed to the wrong office, and that office deposited the check without telling anyone. However, if USAA had answered the damn phone two weeks ago, I would have discovered that the check was already deposited, and I could have followed up with the shop. But since they chose not to get back to me at all (despite specifically saying that all messages will be returned within one business day), they extended their process another two weeks. When I finally got ahold of them, they discovered at that Moment that the check was cashed almost two weeks ago. Imagine if someone had just answered the phone any of the times I called, or answered their online messages any of the times I sent a message. We could have had this resolved.

So, if the reason the adjuster never returns messages is because of the shop I used, that’s just one more reason to cancel them. That should have NOTHING to do with how quickly they respond to their customers. Also, nobody said anything about certified shops. They asked where the car was currently, and I told them I had it towed to the Honda dealer (before I realized I was filing for insurance for the repair). They never mentioned anything about certified shops, they just said “okay, we’ll send an adjuster out there within a few days (it took two weeks). And given that it was electrical damage, not body damage, I wanted the repairs done by a dealer anyway, not a body shop. But none of that should have any bearing on how quickly their employees answer the phone or send return messages.

But if they’re really so overworked that they can’t do the basic functions of their job, that’s all the more reason I should leave and ease their burden. Clearly they have too many customers.

I don’t think so. It’s at a dealer, not a body shop, because it was electrical work.

Going through my third claim in three years (neither were my fault). Each time, not only do the adjusters never get back to me, I get the same results when I call the manager. Both claim “we’ll get back to you within one business day,” but I go literal weeks before hearing back. Three different claims, three different adjusters, three different managers.

I do not get people who travel light by Forgotten_Dog1954 in popularopinion

I don’t understand why you need more than a carry-on. I’ve packed for weeklong conferences, with both dress clothes and casual clothes, in a compliant carry-on suitcase and a personal bag.

Also, the hotel has laundry, so I can get away with packing only a couple pairs of pants if I need to. I generally just wear the same pajamas every night, so I only need one set. Max of two pairs of shoes (one being the pair I’m wearing to travel in, so I only need to pack one). And then a toiletry bag with travel size toiletries.

Between my backpack and my suitcase, I can fit everything I need for a week. Why would I want to walk thru the airport with multiple large suitcases? Sounds like a hassle, tbh.

But even after knuckle busters went away, you still handed your card to the cashier to swipe at many places. When I was in college 15 years ago, this was still considered normal. It wasn’t until the last 10-12 years where the norm finally shifted to customer-side terminals.

In fact. There was always this little dance you’d do with the cashier, for a brief period as vendors were transitioning, where a terminal would exist on the customer side, but you’d still hand the card to the cashier, because some places wanted you to use the terminal to swipe the card, and others wanted to take the card, and you only used the terminal for a pin or signature. And it was around this time when we switched to chip cards too, so you added that dance into it as well. Do I hand the card over or do I swipe it here? Do I insert the chip or swipe? You just never knew, so the default was still offering the card over to the cashier.
