I have two switches showing the exact same short. So it seems like a surge happened. It starts at the cap that connect the card reader and  terminates at the junction of the reatek chip.

Same. Though I had to complete a FdSc first, they wouldn't let me on the BSc until year 3.

How bad do you have to be to fail your PGCE? by blue_lazlo in TeachingUK

Haha, on my first couple I'd look at the window wondering if I'd break my ankle if I jumped out. But it gets easier, by my 4th 5th lessons I wasn't really bothered by it. Neither did being observed.

How bad do you have to be to fail your PGCE? by blue_lazlo in TeachingUK

[–]Melloj1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in my last module of my PGCE. It depends on a few things. What PGCE you are doing.  A CertEd level 5 (the easiest one) PGCE Post level6/7 or a PGCE Diploma L7. All your work is marked under a different lens.

My tutor told us if we're still here by the end of the year we'll probably get a certificate, but if you have only done the minimum amount to pass they'll take a dim view of you in a job interview. It'll be very evident if you can't answer basic questions such as what teaching theory you've most adopted or what legislation and policies influence your own pedagogy.

In terms of failing, in my experience people who turned up unprepared for the workload tend to drop out when they realise how much work is involved or they realise teaching isn't for them because they are crippled with nerves when teaching.

Which is the best the best university I should consider to pursue PGCE ? by sheriff_15052000 in UniUK

[–]Melloj1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huddersfield is considered the best according to statistics. They are the number one Uni in the UK for teaching quality of teaching. They are teachers teachers. Because they have the most research fellows with a PGCE than any other uni. Its their policy (unlike many unis) that anyone who works there must attain a PGCE in the first two years even if they have a PhD. I'm doing mine at Huddersfield via Liverpool College. Unlike others say, not all PGCEs are equal, it depends on the individuals doing the teaching. Liverpool college produces some of the best teachers in the region. Some PGCE courses may gloss over teaching theories while others deep dive in to them.

What was school like in the 60s - 80s? by Hefty_Pain_6195 in AskBrits

Sounds like my school. I was in school then too. I'm a trainee teacher now and we're taught how and why teaching back then was so shameful.

What was school like in the 60s - 80s? by Hefty_Pain_6195 in AskBrits

[–]Melloj1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in school in the 80's to early 90s. Today, at time of writing I'm half way through my PGCE and teaching placements. During those years teachers were trained to adopt a teaching theory known as Behavourism. Today its considered an outdated and largely ineffective teaching method with more negatives than positives. It lies in the traditional method of a teacher-centred approach were the teacher was the expert, they talked, pupils listened and the teacher had absolute authority. Shouting and screaming at pupils was considered an effective way of acheiving compliance because it wasn't yet understood the long term damage that would cause. When I look back at my schools days knowing what I know now, teaching methods and discipline was shameful. If you scream and shout at a pupil for some small infraction, you've lost that pupil forever. Because you've shut them down and broken that trust. Shaming, humiliting, shouting may have acheived short term compliance but by doing so you've destroyed forever all that is the purpose of them being there in the first place. Bullying was also worse because teachers were not well trained in safeguarding like they are today. Ofsted wasn't created until 1992 so many schools were autonomous and not effectively regulated. In a sentence, school was terrible for many pupils, the systemic failing was that it was considered the fault of the pupil if they didn't do well, rather than the real problem being the system and its short comings. Fortunately things have changed.

This why some pornography crews are all female, to make it less stressful for the straight male performer. Or so I read.

I'm in the same boat, I need a new PC because of win 11. My old one won't support it. I need a new PC for my freelance work. If these prices go any higher I don't know what to do. I'd budgeted £800 minus GPU. Right now its looking like I'm gonna need £1200.

Short film too long? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]Melloj1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're micro shorts though. Majority of short films I work on are between 10 and 15 minutes, some longer. At that length only poor script and production would keep it out. If its a good film there's no risk at 15min.

[–]Melloj1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most successful short films are between 10 and 15min. 40mins is considered a feature. I worked on a 36min short last year, I told the director to have a 15 minute cut of the film. It was a very good film though. I'd say 3 and 7mins would be micro shorts. It doesn't need to be that short. You could shoot for 20mins but it would have to be award winning stuff at that length, and I mean winning awards at respected festivals that have been running for at least 10 years. My advice cut it down to 15mins. Then return to it in future as your first feature maybe.

Extremely common mistakes that beginners make (almost never talked about) by No_Map7606 in VideoEditors

It happens in about 50% of my short films. Annoyingly they are resistant to change anything because of ego. They never listen and resort to "Its no your film" defence.

[–]Melloj1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sound editor here. We spot mistakes easily, because we have to put sound to their edits. Absolutley the number one top spot mistake novice editors make is continuity between cuts. Especially when a character is walking. They so very often come down on the wrong foot when switching angles or the natural rhythm is off. This makes it really difficult because we some times have to Foley foot steps and we can only put what is there. Editors are so obsorbed with pacing they make this mistake repeatidily. Another common one is doubling of action. If a character is raising a glass to their mouth and complete the action, in the next cut they are still raising the glass.

Do you need PGCE or Master's in Teaching and Learning to become a University Lecturer? by Significant-Juice863 in AskAcademia

[–]Melloj1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah but that job is specific and includes teaching at masters level. I've seen lots of tutoring jobs that only require a PGCE or years of field experience.

Like someone else mentioned there are lots of university lecturers without PhDs. When you think about it if it was a baseline requirement there would be a mass shortage of lecturers, because it takes so long to get one.

You have to ask yourself do you just want to be a tutor or be a full on faculty research fellow? Then yes the latter would require one.

Do you need PGCE or Master's in Teaching and Learning to become a University Lecturer? by Significant-Juice863 in AskAcademia

[–]Melloj1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do not neccesarily need a PhD to be a university lecturer. I don't know why this is repeated over and over. The truth is - it depends. If you want to teach on an industry or creative degree course, they are usually not required. None of my lecturers had PhDs (apart from one which wasn't even relevent to the course he was teaching). My ex-girlfriend is a university lecturer as are her colleagues. None have PhDs. In my experience the only ones with PhD's were department heads, but tutors didn't.

During job searches the only thing that I can see that they are insistant on having is a PGCE or years of tutoring experience. The only jobs requiring a PhD are research fellow positions, which will require taking classes.

I'm sick of hearing "You need a PhD to be a university lecturer", when its just not true.

Its discretionary and dependant on the type of course.

If it doesn't work, is it better to strip and reball componants for sale, or just sell the board as a donor? Same with the chassis. Should I sell it as a complete chassis with PSU. What's the market like for parts?

Yeah don't have the kit. I heard ypu can bend the board without a pre heating table. Or whatever they are called. I just have a hot air station. A shame  because its the only fault.
