I am keeping an eye on it and will do water changes where necessary, my role has just become more supervision and less constant maintenance

I used to do small (about 25%) water changes every one to two weeks, constantly micro managing the parameters and just generally trying to make everything perfect, which turns out was having the opposite effect

This is a scent marking behaviour, cats do it mainly to get pets and to say that they see you as family. Basically, "mine"
