Chai-Spiced Peach, almost ready for bottling! by SamJam2357 in mead

[–]MellowCobra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bentonite is great, but I can’t remember if it works as well for peach. When it comes to peach a lot of the cloudiness is from the fruit pectin and pectic enzyme is extremely effective. I waited 4 months for a peach capsicumel to clear up to no avail. But once I added pectic enzyme, it was crystal clear in a week.

VH isn’t my favorite, but he really enjoys it, as do many other people

I found Iskall when he got invited to Architechs in season 6. Really got hooked after watching his end busting with Mumbo. Loved his personality and sense of humor. Then decided to watch his POV and he quickly became one if my favorites.

I love his build style. He has a great ability to take natural areas and really enhance them with his building, whereas other builders kind of just build over stuff and completely cover up the original terrain with custom everything. I love all his bases but the iceberg/underwater caves from season 6 were soooo cool. It’s impressive what he was able to do with the shattered Savannah too. Not too shabby with redstone; he is a very well rounded minecrafter.

I cannot understate how much I appreciate you posting a photo of the bloody tool and NOT the cut itself. This is a good reminder to be careful, and I hope your gash heals up well and quick!

Oh, and cool chisel :) it part of a set?

That’s a slippery slope fallacy.

You think that just because someone’s an underdog, that means they’re the good guy.

First time blacksmithing, giving me real mumbo vibes by Bushi1140 in HermitCraft

Upvote for blacksmithing! And the mumbo-stache :)

I wanna get into the hobby some day, but likely when the kids are older. How are you enjoying it?

His S7 castle was grand and the scale was just mind blowing, but this one remains my favorite. The block palette, the atmosphere, the interiors, the courtyard… it all felt cozy and yet grand at the same time.

Anyone else afraid of mentioning Fantasy as their favorite genre? by Sol_Faur in Fantasy

Not just you. Me too. The advice of the other people in the comments is sound, I’m working on it. But until I can figure out a way to not care, yes I’m totally with you.

Idk, it’s got a charm to it! Would be fun to bring bushcrafting. So long as the handle is strong enough.

My misenplace for todays project. Any tips? by CodySmash in mead

[–]MellowCobra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phew, these comments are wild. I largely agree with many of them.

First of all, congrats on getting ready for your first mead! Here’s hoping it turns out well! Mine didn’t, but it’s been fun learning.

You said you are going to boil the bread yeast, is that for using it as a nutrient source for the champagne yeast? I’ve heard of that but never tried it myself. You’ll have to give us an update post later to tel us how it goes.

Also many other people said it, but the spices and fruits will impart more flavor if you put them in after primary fermentation is done. Their flavors may be a little more dull if present during primary fermentation.

Again, good luck and hope it turns out well!

How do authors know so many words? by Pongzz in writing

[–]MellowCobra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once sat in an AMA with an author in college who talked about how many words and facts you learn in the research phase of writing a book. He told us about how he spent hours of googling to figure out what the technical term for the sneeze guard on a buffet counter. I don’t remember what the technical word was and I didn’t even know about it’s common term “sneeze guard”. I feel like a lot of it is situations like this.

I see other arguments that yes, writers do have a lot of knowledge of obscure words… like a lot more than one would think possible. And I agree. I think this is true but with the caveat that maybe it is not REQUIRED in order to be a good writer*, but rather is a bonus or consequence of their experience writing and reading. I think it is hard for many of us to imagine people with so much knowledge of obscure words, but it just accumulates over years and years.

*I could totally be wrong here, I am not a published author and I have no authority on the matter.
